  • Kathryn from Winchester reviewed the Al Jasira Hotel

  • "This hotel was great! The staff were very friendly and helpful and the decor is quite ornate with attractive intricate designs. We ate at the restaurant twice and the food was delicious, fresh and with remarkably good service. We had a fabulous room with a four-poster bed and a small balcony overlooking a quiet road. The pool isn't huge but it's big enough for a splash around and warmer than you'd think. The beach is only about 2-5 minute walk, depending on whether you're going normal speed or Essaouria speed! The medina and port is about 20-30 minutes on foot but it's a lovely walk along the promenade so it doesn't seem like a chore at all. If you're feeling lazy a taxi is only 7-8 dirhams anyway."

  • Top Tip:

"Most restaurants in the medina we tried were wonderful and we went a bit tagine mad. If you fancy something different for a change, we tried a french restaurant called Darbaba just off Rue Marrakech in the medina. The logo to look out for is a cartoon camel head, eating spaghetti and wearing a fez - don't let this put you off! Simple but tasty food with fresh pasta and home made desserts and not bad prices. Another french place we tried was called Les Chandeliers which was excellent but a bit more pricey if you're in the mood to treat yourself."

  • Lorely from High Wycombe reviewed the Al Jasira Hotel

  • "Charming helpful staff, clean rooms. A bit cramped around the pool and quite a way out of town centre but still near the beach. However beach not cleared of heaps of washed up wood/plant debris and therefore impossible to get into sea here though is clear near town but good 20 mins walk. Very windy so sand blasts along the beach - hence not suitable for families or younger people."

  • Top Tip:

"Would recommend Chez Sam's perched on the end of the harbour for an excellent meal with great view."

  • Top Tip:

"Essaouira beach in May was fantastic virtually empty.
Taros resturant just off the main square in the old town great food, atmosphere, live traditional music in upstairs bar.
Casa Vera - surprisingly good, didn't have everything on the menu, but they had was good."

  • J from THAMES DITTON reviewed the Al Jasira Hotel

  • "The hotel staff were very helpful & friendly. Breakfast was nice but dinner was expensive compared to food elsewhere."

  • Top Tip:

"The best restaurants we found were in the medina (about 20-25 minute walk), the pizzeria on the beach was a bit closer and quite good. Petit taxis are excellent value, you can pick them up at the medina gates - 6Dh."

  • william from cambridge reviewed the Al Jasira Hotel

  • "The hotel was very clean, the staff friendly and helpful. It was quiet, not on a main road and only a 2-3 minute walk from the beach.Would have been nice to have an english breakfast once or twice but that really was a minor detail and after all it was in a French Protectorate so a continental breakfast was expected.
Overall very happy and would go again."

  • Top Tip:

"If when you go to the beach you go left and walk for about 10-20 minutes you will come to a completely unspoilt, beautiful stretch of beach with no one on it except a few camel riders, walk a bit further and you'll come to a river(watch out at high tide as you may not be able to cross), beyond that is the Bordj el Berod, the ruins of a castle just in the sea."

  • Paul from Bristol reviewed the Al Jasira Hotel

  • "I cannot say that I am at all happy with the hotel Al Jasira…

The first impressions of the room on arrival were okay. My expectations were not too high but the room seemed clean.

On the night of 22nd having returned from an evening meal to my room I found two small cockroaches in the bathroom. As they were so small and I was on holiday I dismissed this as being a consequence of being in Morocco.

The next day, just after lunch, I returned to the room and found a much larger cockroach in the bathroom. This one was easily an inch long, after trapping it under a glass a closer inspection of the bathroom revealed several more.

I took the cockroach to the reception desk in a glass. The reaction of the staff was quite unbelievable. The glass was quickly taken from me and the cockroach was disposed of. After I refused to believe their tales that this was in fact a beetle, they admitted it was a cockroach but was not a problem of any sort. After I insisted that this was a real problem and posed a significant threat to my health they just laughed in my face.

My only option was to wait until the manager attended the hotel that evening to discuss the matter with him. Having consulted the paperwork sent to me by you as booking confirmation I understood that it was necessary to attempt to resolve this matter directly with the hotel before contacting you.

On speaking with the manager that evening I received a long awaited apology. With this came the offer of an alternative room, which I was keen to accept so long as it was clean and free of cockroaches.

The room was in fact clean but the odour of some sort of pesticide in the room was not too pleasant. Seeing this as my best option I accepted the room. I also arranged to meet the manager the following day to discuss a refund of the money I had paid for the two nights I had shared a room with cockroaches.

Notably from this point on the staff were some what more apologetic to both myself and my partner.

The next day (24th) I went to meet with the manager as planned. He had a desk full of invoices and asked if we could meet later. I arranged to meet him after I had taken lunch but on my return he had left the hotel. This was extremely disappointing.

The next morning when I was due to check out I waited for the manager to arrive. As I had a coach to catch early that afternoon I was tied to time and informed the manager of this. With this in mind he still proceeded to conduct an alternative meeting. On interrupting the meeting I was not acknowledged but instead the member of staff on the reception desk was summoned and instructed to provide me with a refund for one night’s accommodation. The money I received was equivalent to the local rate and well below what I paid that included a booking fee.

All in all this amounted to an incredibly disappointing stay. I think the service I received as a customer of the hotel was appalling and sharing a room with cockroaches is far from acceptable."

  • pamela from edinburgh reviewed the Al Jasira Hotel

  • "The hotel room was basic but adequate. The room was cleaned daily to a high standard . Fresh towels were given daily if you wanted them. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We did have a problem with an exessive amount of ants which just appeared one day! We complained to reception and the problem was dealt with right away, we were very impressed! The hotel was very quiet and peaceful. The breakfast did get a bit boring, just bread and cheese every day."

  • Top Tip:

"The beach is about 5-10minutes from the hotel. The club mistral centre, which is on the beach, is around 5-10 minutes away. this is a nice place to eat and have a drink during the day. It gets very busy so be prepared to wait! From here you can walk along the beach to the medina which has lots of restaurants on the way. very clean beaches and a nice place for children to be. Taros is a restaurant that has lovely tagines(local food) you can also go onto the roof top bar for a beer after your meal. They usually have live music playing. This is located inside the medina, around 15 minutes from hotel."
