  • Cheral from Birmingham reviewed the Roman Hotel

  • "On arrival the hotel had allocated a double room which I had to sort out for the booked twin room. There was very little information/advice given when checking in and no offer to help with cases up 2 flights of stairs. The breakfast (only meals taken at the hotel) were very basic and bland. The hotel pool didn't look as if it had been cleaned for a while so no-one ventured in.

The hotel itself was clean, rooms cleaned every day and communal areas clean. Hotel staff were friendly and welcoming. The hotel itself is definitely quirky and may not be to every-one's taste with the decor."

  • Top Tip:

"Tea for Two have 3 restaurants/cafes in the area with 1 close to the hotel. The service and meals were very good and well worth a visit."

  • "The hotel was quaint and quirky and the staff friendly. The evening meal choice was abysmal and one evening, at 7:30 pm, there was nothing left. I wrote a cmplaint to the manager but received no response. Don' go half board out of season!!"

  • "Hotel and room clean. Room cleaned every day. Friendly staff.
Very unusual decor- worth a stay just to see it.
Breakfast very poor and everyone complained.
Apparently evening meal also very poor.
In general good just for room."

  • barbara from ipswich reviewed the Roman Hotel

  • "A lovely clean hotel with nice rooms and very friendly staff. The big drawback was the selection of food at both breakfast and Dinner. Each day there was less an less, which caused a lot of disscussion and complants from the customers to both the waiters and holiday reps. The manager seemed to stay well out of site. He never once spoke to any customer that I was aware of."

  • "Hotel well positioned for reasonable walking distance to the town and harbour.
Many restaurants and bars in very near vicinity. Hotel breakfast will feed you for a day. Full buffet meals in hotel every evening. An excellent hotel for the money. Have paid a lot more for less service. Staff from chambermaid to barman excellent. Thank you to the traffic republic rep [Kaye] for setting up an excellent holiday. No fault with any of the services, flight, transfers and hotel."

  • Moira from Chorley reviewed the Roman Hotel

  • "The style of hotel was very different to any experienced previously, but the decor was "fun". The room originally allocated was a overlooking the main street which proved very noisy on the first night but the staff were very helpful and gave us a much nicer room. The downside to the rooms was that the air conditioning was not very functional."

  • Top Tip:

"Good selection of eating places locally, but chose to eat near the Port in Paphos. A very good Italian we found was The Spaghetteria. The Lighthouse beach just around the corner from the hotel was adequate for a few hours relaxation during the day with facilities to eat and drink"

  • Peter from Clacton on Sea reviewed the Roman Hotel

  • "The novel design of the hotel made the stay more enjoyable. The ground floor had ramps and would be suitable for older / disabled people. My only concern was that I asked for a non smoking room but it appeared that all rooms were set up for smokers, however the rooms were clean. The location was excellent for visiting some of the roman ruins although my room over looked the main road, therefore the view could have been better."

  • Top Tip:

"The municipal beach 5 minutes from the hotel was OK, the sand was very course and the sea was very rocky although Coral Beach was a bus ride away (which I'm told had a better beach). I recommend viewing the fabulous sunset from the municipal beach. The restaurants in Pathos were very nice. I spent most of my lunchtimes in Nostalgia's. The Harbour with the fort was very interesting, as were the Tomb of the Kings. This holiday is a must if you like to visit ancient ruins virtually on the doorstep of your hotel."

  • Rebecca from London reviewed the Roman Hotel

  • "Very kitsch quirky hotel, great fun! We stayed in October so it wasn't too busy and there were always spare loungers by the pool. Pool area wasn't that big so not sure how much space there would be in the peak season. Ten mins walk to the harbour or ten mins to the closest beach. Bar Street is about 15 mins walk or 8 - 10 euros in a cab.
Hotel staff were friendly, hotel was very clean. Rooms were big with wall to floor mirrors on one entire wall - great for getting ready!
Breakfast was nice, had dinner once and wasn't overlly impressed with the choice.
    Would def stay here again."

  • Blair from Aberdeen reviewed the Roman Hotel

  • "The ease of booking this holiday and flight was a joy. Although we never spoke with a human being at all, everything went exactly according to plan. We even arrived home 25 minutes early! Transfers in both direction was by taxi, the homeward one being a stretch limo! The cleanliness of the hotel was ok, but bathroom cleaning could have been better. The air conditioning was a bit of an exaggeration - it seemed to be more of a cool air blower - no control over it at all, and quite loud. The room temperature didn't really drop at all. The hotel room seemed to have an over-abundance of furniture - it wasn't possible to sit on the only armchair through lack of leg room. Although the evening buffets were very well laid out, for the first time in over 20 years of holidaying abroad, one of us contracted severe stomach problems, probably caused by salad food being served outdoors with no chilling facility, so to be avoided in future. The staff were, overall, quite friendly if rather unsmiling, but we found that very few had workable English. The barman paid far more attention to the TV news than he did to the customers, unfortunately. He frequently used the remote to turn up the TV volume so much that it drowned out the bar music and of course, any conversations you may have been having. The pool area was excellent, plenty shade in the morning and plenty brollies for the rest of the day, and the pool itself was always immaculately clean. The decor, needless to say, was fascinating. Coco the parrot was probably the best entertainment during our 14 day stay. All in all, we had a very relaxing hotel at the Roman Hotel, and would definitely consider it again should we return to Cyprus."

  • James from Brentwood reviewed the Roman Hotel

  • "Other reviews seem to encapsulate the ambience of the Roman, so I won't go on about that; suffice to say, it's great...though the novelty does wear off slightly.

Key issue: air conditioning in room didn't work properly. Otherwise, good fun. Quality wise, it's not quite a 3-star, but it's worth going to, and I would go again. Staff very friendly (apart from breakfast people), bar staff particularly; food at the bar was outstanding. Look out for the parrot at reception!

Pool very nice, and one of the few I've been in where it goes down to a decent depth.

Didn't sample the evening entertainment (souvla and karaoke the night we were there), but the souvla looked better than the entertainment, to be honest...

Location-wise, good: it's a 10 minute walk at a normal pace down to the seafront/marina; didn't see a beach but there must be one - look for advice elsewhere! Didn't see many restaurants near the hotel, but didn't really look.

Overall, worth going to, and a good laugh. If the aircon had worked properly, I wouldn't have been able to fault it really."

  • "The hotel staff were very attentive and friendly. They dealt with all enquiries quickly. The rooms were very clean and the food was good value. The hotel itself was amazing and decorated with roman murals. The carpets looked a little tired and could do with being replaced however that had no adverse impact on our stay."

  • Top Tip:

"The Pelican resturant at the harbour is well worth a visit. The food was excellent and good value. Tea for Two which is about 400m along the Tomb of the Kings road was a very friendly resturant that provides a welcome taste of home."

"If you fancy diving the hotel is idealy located round the corner from "Dive point" diving centre so you don't have far to take your gear. Which is one of the reasons we chose this hotel. Secondly the location is idealy suited for easy access to the rest of Paphos as it's fairly central and in short walking distance of the harbour, the old town with plenty of bars and restaurants nearby."
