"Amazingly helpful and friendly staff, if a trifle loud and officious at times (hotel is run by Germans) Beautiful room, well maintained and cleaned. Quiet location, apart from the family dog."
Top Tip:
"The English run Thai restaurant, nearby, was superb. Also the 'Bascilico', by the harbour and 'Girasele' does good pizza.
The local walking trails are worth the effort for the view from the top. Good, free maps from the Information Centre."

"Owners and staff very friendly. On arrival we were told there were only two rooms available and were given the choice, both were very small but we chose an upstairs room with balcony. We noticed later in the week that quite a lot of the rooms were much larger with a sofa, whereas in our room there was only room for one person at a time to walk around the bed, I expect it is just the luck of the draw which room you are allocated. Bedding and towels were changed every third day. Breakfast was limited but that is normal in Greece. We really liked Kokkari and Samos and will definitely return."

"The hotel was lovely. The people who ran it were delightful; so kind and enthusiastic. They really made us feel at home there. The pool was a good size and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. We really enjoyed ourselves there and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it. The rooms were relatively basic (no TV etc) but this is standard in Greece and they were very clean and bright.

The only other comments I'd make is that it appears Samos as an island is very geared towards German tourists, rather than those of other nationalities. This is not really a negative comment, as it's better than seeing 'Full English Breakfast' plastered everywhere. This lack of English tourism is actually one of the best things about Samos. However, it does mean that we found very little English information on island attractions etc in the hotel, while there was a wealth of German information. It would be good to see some more information in English at the hotel.

But overall, I couldn't fault the hotel for its service. It is one of the nicest places I've stayed in Greece in terms of attitude and generally nice ambience."
Top Tip:
"We would recommend the following (which doesn't appear in either of our English guidebooks):
- The Potami waterfalls. Near the beach at Potami on Samos, there is a great walk up a river where you have to wade through shallow - and deeper - water to visit some lovely waterfalls. It's not for those who aren't able-bodied, but it's lovely.

I'd also recommend walking to Megalo beach, which you can't access by car. It's near Potami too.

The restaurant that I'd rate most in Kokkari is:

Ammos Plaz. It does great Greek food. Even the non-Greek food is good; it actually makes its own chips rather than using oven/frozen chips which many others do.

Overall, however, the food was much, much better here than on other Greek islands and we rarely had a disappointing meal in Kokkari."

"The Athea Hotel is very nice, set in well maintaned gardens, with an excellent pool area (the person running the pool bar, has an excellent sense of humour & loads of energy), there are plenty of sunbeds available. The rooms are quite basic but adequate and are cleaned well every day. The breakfast is quite basic, but all Greek breakfasts are (apparently)? It is situated very close to the beach, which is pebbles, there are sandy beaches just outside Kokkari & Samos town. The atmosphere @ the hotel & the whole of Kokkari is RELAXING !"
Top Tip:
"There are loads of tavernas nearby (about 25 in total), all are relaxing & on the edge of the beach or the harbour. The ones that we liked most are:

Bascilica - Italian, overlooking the harbour.
Ammez Plaz - Tradition Greek kitchen, 150 mtrs from htel.
Tsamaou - Thai & Oriental, 250mtrs from hotel.
Cavos Bar - Lovely to relax for lunch, overlooking the harbour."

"Simple but clean and friendly hotel with a good pool. Not much variety at breakfast but perfectly adequate. Room would have been rather small for a couple but fine for Single Use."
Top Tip:
"Enjoyed the Mojito cocktails at the Cafe del Mar. A nice resort with loads of good restaurants and some quite good shops. Recommend the trip to Ephesus."

"Hotel Athena in Kokkari, Samos was superb. Arriving by taxi at the hotel, Sybil the Hotel Receptionist was waiting at the steps to greet us and immediately knew out name - the best welcome we have ever received - anywhere in the world! We were shown to our room immediately which was immaculately clean and very comfortable. Extremely happy to recommend"

"Meltemi and Girasole restaurants - definite recommendation - excellent customer service and friendly. Great menus. Alpha bar (directly opposite) good snack service through the day. Excellent customer service."
