"We wanted a quiet resort with a nice room and thts what we got. As everyone has said a car is a must and we had one. Couldnt have done without it.
Finding the hotel wasnt a problem as we read the revieww before. Its not in Estapona just outside. Its the exit after San Pedro.
Hotel was clean and tidy, we went in Sept so was very quiet apart from the Weekends when there are Spanish parties. Which wasnt a problem. We went self catering and would recommend that.
If its a holiday where you want to go and explore different places, then this is definately for you"

"Hotel was very nice, was however very quiet as it was closing for major refurb - this did not bother us however as we used it for a base to travel Southern Spain. That said when we did use the facilities we had no real complaints (apart from no iron!).
Beach was 30 min walk - however we hired a car and were able to drive to more (and better) beaches than the local one.
Excellent location if you hire a car - if you dont, be prepared for long walks or high taxi prices (20 euro's each way to Puerto Banus which was a 7 min drive!).
Free use of spa (suana and steam room) was nice but would have expected it to be free"

"Hotel was very comfortable, excellent rooms and the staff were extremely helpful.
Cleaning was excellent and there was very little noise in the evenings"

"We found the hotel clean and the staff very helpful and friendly. The pool was excellent and it was great to see a life guard on duty. The rooms were of a very good size, however there was limited cooking utensils - more pots and a toaster are required, however the microwave came in very handy.
The kids club was useful and well equipped, however the evening mini-disco was poor compared to other places we have visited. The night entertainment was also on late (at 11pm) and left to the kids club entertainers to do everything. The hotel being 4star should bring in outside acts to entertain - this would attract a number of the residents.
We found that we had to hire a car (but only did so for 3 days). The stay can be managed without a car but then people should be prepared to walk long distances and budget for taxi fares as sight seeing, restaurants and night entertainment is not nearby. It may be cheaper to hire a car to give you the freedom to go where you like.
Although we like eating out, we ate in the restaurant twice and found the food adequate - salads, and a variety of main course meal options on offer. The pool bar had the standard food options. The restaurants in Costa del Sol are expensive so self catering and eating at the hotel is a good option.
Overall a very good holiday, however be aware of pick pockets in the Costa del Sol region."

"The hotel was lovely, great facilities and very friendly staff. The self catering apartment was ideal and very spacious! The hotel itself is on the main road so is within driving distance of most areas along the costa del sol, but a car is definately needed."

"we had a great time the hotel was lovely would certainly return"

"loverly hotel, good rooms, but this hotel really is in the middle of nowhere a hire car is required."

"The hotel was fine but a CAR IS ESSENTIAL. The nearest supermarket and restaurant was a good 10-15 minutes walk, followed by an uphill return! On arrival the air con in the room was not working, could not call from the room as the phone was broken, quite a way from reception and had to go there physically each time to complain. No sleep at all the first night - still no phone next morning! Eventually had phone but no air con and 24hrs after arriving had to move room - at my insistence. Whilst it offers a self catering approach the cutlery draw was somewhat inadequate - take a bottle opener/corkscrew!!!"

"If you have a car this is a pretty good place to stay. Reception staff were great and were very helpfull with directions.
The nearest restaurants and bars are .8 of a mile away. On saying that within a 1.25 mile radius there is at least 15 restaurants with plenty of variety i.e. Mecican, Spanish, Italian, Chinnese and Japanese.
A Chinnese called Bernies 19th hole and the next door Roof top bar both did Sky Sports. The Chinnese can show differnt channels on each of 3 TVs so put the Rugby League on for us.
Best restaurant we found was in concelada and was Spanish.
The beach is 1.5 miles away.
The rooms are clean, a good size and have good views. Towels were changed virtually daily.
If you have a car and fancy something at the top end of what you could get on a package holiday then say here.
I exchanged my free spa session for a free Gym session which was then 7 euros a time. Plenty of free weights and a good selection of machines. Also had 4 cardio vascular machines.
There were plenty of English people there. The bar was dead at night.
We used this holiday to chill out round the pool and eat at night. Back to the room and and a night cap and a good nights sleep. If you like to party don't stay here.
We stayed B & B and at £6 each for a breakfast I wish I had gone to the large supermarket and bought stuff in. The breakfast was okay but I reckon you could rustle up a far better one for a third of the price."

"The caledonia is a really nice hotel, the only thing stopping it from being a top hotel is its location. We had a car which I have to say is a must for getting to the local supermarkets and restaurants. The pool scene was great for all ages but especially for the kids (6 & 9 years old), they quickly made friends. As we went in August the hotel was busy and competition for sunbeds was a little frustrating. I am embarrassed to say I joined the ranks of putting towels down to reserve beds early in the morning, however it was the only way to guarantee somewhere to sit. The apartments are really modern & comfortable, nicely air conditioned (which is a must in August). We had a nice balcony overlooking the pool with a small table and chairs. The room was cleaned daily and the staff were very friendly. Overall great self catering value for money. I would return without hesitation. The kids loved it."

"The hotel itself was nice and very clean but it was situated at the top of a large hill with no amenities nearby. The staff were very friendly but the manager and one of the security guards were very rude. The bar was supposed to close at 2am but we were often told to leave well before this time or the lights were simply switched off. There was very little entertainment for children or adults. The majority of the hotel residents were Spanish and they appeared to get preferential treatment (cheaper drinks, etc.). If you want a very quiet holiday lying by the pool and going to bed early then this is the place for you but make sure you hire a car as even the supermarket is a long walk away."

"Hotel was lovely but although you got a free pass for 50 min in spa, if you wanted to use indoor pool etc you had to pay 16.95 euros for each 50 minute session and only 30 people were allowed in at any one time. The hotel has 304 apartments so it could not cater for the majority. Also you had to wear flip flops and a swimming cap which had to be purchased in spa. The hotel and grounds are big enough to have a decent sized indoor pool as not everyone wants to use outdoor pool all the time. Also hotel was geared towards Spanish guests and German guests. Only English channel on Satellite was Sky news. Breakfast was buffet but even although there was quite a choice, by the time you got your tea and fruit juice and found a table and went to get some food, there was practically nothing left. Definately geared towards early risers with huge appetites. I was quite put off my modest two slices of toast with a bit of meat by guests with 12 cakes/pastries piled high beside their huge breakfasts. But there was no waste, they individually polished off at least 12 each. It became quite a game, watching who could eat the most. Aside from that the Hotel is also used for Weddings etc and they segregate certain areas for these private parties in the terraces around the pool. Also if you have a hire car you have to park miles away. The Hotel is on the north side of the A7/N340, so if you want to go to beach, it is quite tricky to find out where to go as you have to go up or down the motorway trying to find a slip road. The same applies if you want to go to a restaurant across on the other side or even on same side as you have to get on motorway and travel up or down to find a underpass or roundabout to change carraigeways. It is a bit of a nightmare really and it is too far from hotel to the beach to cross on footbridge. Perhaps Hotel should get a shuttle bus to take guests to beach as happens in some resorts.Hotel rooms were nice and spacious but although they state that they provide all kitchenware, they do not supply a kettle. You have to pay a deposit of 20 euros for one at reception. This was not stated on their directory, we only found out when we asked. Directory also states that there is a shop (BAZAR) next to recetion. The shop is a room with a drinks vending machine , a bubble gum machine and a toy vending machine!! Also no tea towels were supplied so had to buy kitchen roll to wipe dishes. There are no restaurants near the hotel but did find some top restaurants not far away. Santorini on same side of motorway as hotel but to get to it you have to cross over and head towards Marbella, take the turning off to Benahavis and come back on to motorway heading back to hotel. Take second slip. Santorinis is an Italian Restaurant with fab food cooked by an Indian Chef. It is a family business and is great. Another one to try is Chamboa Paradiso on opposite side of road. Cross over and take first slip off. Tapas are fabulous. Last but not least is the Bistro in Estepona at the harbour. Second restaurant as you go in. Staff are great, food is excellent, you have to try the garlic bread.Prices good."

"Third time back to the Caledonian Golf Resort and once again very happy with the standard of service and excellent value for money. You probably need a hire car to get about because it is a mile or so from the main motorway/beach area but taxis would suffice. Excellent pool area for both grownups and kids. Very clean rooms (only 4 years old). Food acceptable not brilliant but then again very good value for money. Highly recommended, in Arnies words - I'll be back! Bob P in Peterlee, County Durham"

"This is now the 2nd time I have stayed. I love it . I used to live on the costa del sol and so know the area very well , which helps. For someone arriving for the first time they do need transport and you do think it is in the middle of nowhere, but really it isnt. It's a good stretch of the legs to the nearest shops.retaurants and supermarkets. A lot of that residential area are British people and therefore the nearby restaurants cater to that as well. The hotel is fabulous . The reception is huge and the rooms are lovely and clean . The have the best hotel mattresses I have ever slept in . The staff are friendly and helpful. The pool bar was not open all the time this visit but it was quiet and the restaurant on the pool area was catering to peoples needs instead. So not the end of the world. I will use it again and also recommend it to friends."

"The hotel was lovely the rooms were very high standard and very clean, well equipped the hotel pool was so big and plenty of sunbeds, the beer was slightly overpriced and they had no large beer glasses, so we had to make do with half glasses. Parking was a bit of a nightmare we managed to park in nearby streets as there was a spanish wedding on one night and there were lots of cars, I do not agree with having to pay to park in the underground car park. Overall we would go back. You definately need a car to get to restaurants and bars. For the price we paid it was very good."
