  • Vivienne from Grimsby reviewed the Duna Beach Bungalows Hotel

  • "First the posative stuff...
The complex overall is very nice. It is in a quiet location, but there are good transport links into Maspalomas. The bus service is frequent and very cheap, but there is always a taxi at the gate, they charge under 4e to get into town. That said I only ventured down to the beach once, that was my choice as I didn't want to be near crowds. I went for peace and quiet which I molst certainly got at the complex.

The restaurant is good, however be prepeared for a limited choice, and certainly don't expect spanish cuisine! It's the usual fayre of grilled chicken, steaks, pasta or burgers...that said,he food was always fresh and well cooked. Service quick and efficient.
Some reviewsI read said that the staff were rude and surly, I didn't find this to be the case, and as ever, treat people as you wish to be treated yourself.

The swimming pool was icy!! but the smaller one alongside was much warmer. The pool itself, and the area was spotless. Plenty of sunbeds available.
The grounds were spotless, and always staff around and looked like they were kept busy.

Now the not so posative stuff...
The bungalows look pretty, if slightly lacking in privacy, but inside they are a great disappointment. The layout is ok, but the standards of workmanship and maintainance are very poor. MY bungalow was shabby. The bath taps kept falling off, the cupboard doors were in a poor condition, the electric sockets were hanging off the walls, and the beds were awful. The linel and towels looked old and very tired. When I triedto close the bedroom curtain the pole fell off the wall...not good.
Also there are tiny ants everywhere, which didn't really bother me, until one night there was a swarm of them in my living room. Maintainance came very quickly to deal with it however. I accept that insects...ants and cockroaches are commonplace, but they ought to do more to control them.
The bungalows are in need of an upgrade and to be brought up to a much better standard. That said, I came to rest and relax, and sit by the pool for a week, not sit indoors...considering what I paid I'm not going to complain.
After saying all that, would I go back to Duna Beach...definitely yes for a winter break. It suited my needs.
Just one final point, be aware that the complex and surrounding area seems more geared up for the German and Dutch visitors, and a lot of them belong to the gay community. Not a problem for me at all, but if it could be for you then be aware.

Finally, a comment about Travel Republic. I travel alone alot, and usually have a package holiday. This is the first time I have booked everything independantly, and TR have been excellet. First class service, and nothing was too much trouble. Documents were sent out quickly, and I will certainly use them again. SO top marks Travel Republic!!"

  • "I enjoyed my stay here at dunas beach. Staff were helpfull and friendly, the restaurant did very good food that was also very reasonably priced. Entertainment was offered on site almost every night. Only was mostly same entertainment each week. The appartments were very clean and spacious area. Lots of palm trees and greenery. terraces were quiet private and wasn't very overlooked. This was my second visit and would definitely go back again. I would also recommend Dunas beach bungalows to my friends."

  • "Tjis was supposed to be a 3 star all inclusive holiday. The hotel was only a 2 star. Because there was not enough people taking all inclusive we were given a very limited evening meal menu, my daughter is vegetarian and she was given 1 choice ( take it or leave it) and no other options. The hotel was in the middle of nowhere, the road down to it was very dark, so we had to take taxis out every night to get something to eat. Because we were out every evening we missed out on the ai drinks. The hotel is very old looking, and in need of a huge clean up. All in all the worst holiday experience we have had for a long time, it wasnt worth going AI to this hotel, we ended up having to get more money as we hadnt budgeted for having to eat out everynight. Wouldnt recommend it."

  • Stephen from Selkirk reviewed the Duna Beach Bungalows Hotel

  • "I was a bit worried prior to going on holiday as I had read one or two poor reviews. However the hotel is good value for money and the staff are very friendly and efficient. The rooms were clean but very basic and dated .however the hotel has actually started to refurbish the rooms and that is good news. Also no real noise from the workmen susprisingly! Food is ok but better to eat out I think. Pool is good and when we there (13-20 October) the place was virtually deserted so no problems with sunbeds etc, absolute bliss! If you like 4/5 star luxury forget it but if you dont mind basic but good , clean value for money accomodation this is ideal. Oh and the maids cleaned 4 times when we there but did not change the bedding, that could be a problem in high summer!"

  • "We stayed for a week the bungalow although a little tired and quite small it was very clean.Quite a way to walk to shops and restaurants however handy cheap bus to Playa Ingles and Beach also taxi to Playa Ingles from outside bungalows only 4 euros.Loads of places to eat although the meals at the restaurant area on site were great and we eat there every other night as well as breakfasts and snacks.Looking at the meals the All Inclusive guests were getting looked good value.
No entertainment even though it was advertised.Minimarket well stocked on site.Reception helpful you can hire anything. No information in Bungalow usually get a booklet or folder had to work out ourselves.Pool was lovely no probs getting sunbeds. We would happily go back but Gran Canaria need to get rid of Cockroaches only a couple in bungalow though.."

  • "Good clean basic accomodation. Staff very helpful. Five minutes on bus to beach a five minute walk to where the bus stopped though it was under 4 euros for a taxi so if party of 4 - 1 euro each. Towels and maid service every 2nd day and we would have liked clean towels every day but apart from that we had no complaints. Laundry on site if you had children and needed to carry out a wash. Small supermarket also on site which had everything that you would require. Would recommend and would go back again."

  • Andrew from Beverley reviewed the Duna Beach Bungalows Hotel

  • "Hotel amenities were great, very quite and not much english at the time off are stay, although a few turned up towards the end of the week, not always a bad thing though. Bungalow was basic but clean, cleaners frequent. only 2 english channels available on the tv, World news and eurosport. Air-con was available but at a high cost of 65 euros for the week. Cockroaches were around at night and got in under the door but a tea towel pushed in the gap soon eliminated that problem. Over all 4 out of 5."

  • Scott from Trruo reviewed the Duna Beach Bungalows Hotel

  • "The Duna Beach is a lovely complex, if a bit tired and in need of a make over! However, the rooms and public areas are very clean. We had our room cleaned every day with fresh towels and linen every other day. If you want a hotel that is in the middle of ‘every thing’ the Duna Beach might not be for you. If however you would like something a little on the quieter side then this is the place. Faro 2 the sopping and restaurant centre is only a few minutes walk away up the road and across a piece of waste land. Play del ingles and the ‘parties’ or Meloneras and the ‘posh’ shops and restaurants is only a 5 euro taxi ride away. Would I go back to the Duna Beach? DEFINATLY."

Shop on site had most items required, but FARO II shopping centre less than 10 mins walk away. Taxis were cheap, drivers friendly and cars immaculately kept."

  • "Bungalows were very clean and cosy. All staff very friendly and helpful, however they speak little English, but we didn't have any problems with communicating. The beach and dunes are within a walking distance, but you have to like walking,as it takes probably good 30 min to get there, its a nice walk though and it's worth it.Taxis are everywere,1 was always waiting by the entrance and there's frequent shuttle bus, too. There's also shopping centre 10 min away with restaurants and well equipted supermarket.
The only problem we had - the bungalow was just next to reception building, and every morning at 8 am housekeeping staff was making a lot of noise with their trolleys. They should invest in rubber wheels as paths are tiled.
As to the food,we only had breakfast included and it was all you can eat.Restaurant and bar is open all day so if we didn't bother to go out for a meal we could order everything on site or take away!
I would definately recommend this Hotel to everyone and would go back there even this year again."

Suitable for couples and families with young children, no amenties nearby for teenagers. 10 mins walk to local shopping centre with a couple of bars and restaurants, 40 mins walk to maspalomas beach and 20 mins walk to Playa del Ingles town centre.
