"I have been visiting this hotel at least once, sometimes twice a year, for about 10 years now. It is fairly basic and somewhat dated in its accommodation, but it scores well on location and its immediate surroundings. Also the staff have always been most friendly.

There are dramatic views of sea and mountains from the whole hotel as it sits on a prominent elevated ridge less than a mile from the main Malaga-Cadiz coast road. The local facilities within a two mile radius include the beach, supermarkets, bars, every type of restaurant you could wish for and two well-established golf courses.

Within an easy drive are Marbella(15 mins), Puerto Banus(10 mins), Estepona(15 mins), Gibraltar(40 mins) and some 30 golf courses."

"The hotel is in need of refurbishment. I stayed at this hotel approx 3 years ago and have to say it has gone down hill since then.

The rooms are very basic and have numerous stains on the carpet. I would say this was more a 3* hotel than a 4* hotel. The corridors are very dark - only 1 out of every 3 bulbs seemed to be working in every light (either that or they are trying to save month). The air conditioning kept going off and it was over 30 degrees. I would not stay here again."

"Only stayed one night[we had a villa booked at Istan] but really enjoyed our brief encounter with the El Paraiso.We had our children and grandchildren,the pool was ideal.we ate lunch and dinner,both excellent and value for money.We would definitely stay again."

"Very pleasant hotel, bedrooms a little tired however, cleanliness was not a problem, beds very comfortable staff very friendly. You really need a car to get to the El Paraiso hotel, however, the grounds and pool are fantastic. Views are also a real treat. If you are driving, make sure you use a road planner such as Google MAps 1st. El Paraiso is about 10K before the main resort of Esteponia, (Travelling from Malaga/Marbella) If you travel past the Crowne Plaza you have gone too far. From Marbella, take the exit immediately opposite the Crowne Plaza and after 200 mtrs take a right turn up a hill. The hotel is about 1KM up on your left. You go over 3 yellow&black sleeping policemen, which you cannot miss because they will take the bottom out of your car if you go more than 5mph. Thereafter it is clearly marked. (Be warned everything is called El Paraiso something, golf, restaurant, pool etc.)"

"We have stayed at El Paraiso for many years now and particularly like the quiet location, yet it is within walking distance of many restaurants and bars. It is also very convenient for Marbella, Puerto Banus, Estepona and Gibraltar and is only 45/50 minutes from Malaga Airport. There are probably 30 golf courses within 30 minutes drive.

The hotel itself is fine but the new owners have made cut-backs in various areas over the last two years. However these would not discourage us from going again."

"Some parts of The El Paraiso needs some updating but this hotel offers excellent value for money. The vistas from both sides of the hotel are lovely and if you have a sea-view room (at the back of the hotel) the views across to Gibraltar & Morocco are breath-taking (ask for floors 3/4/5). Friendly staff, comfortable rooms, lovely outdoor & indoor pool and nice gardens with plenty of beds and cushions make this a regular destination for us. At the top of the hotel is 'La Rotunda', a circular bar open in the evenings, again with great views. Smoking is permitted in this bar. The El Paraiso golf course is adjacent to the hotel.

NOTE - the El Paraiso is situated approx 1-mile from the main road up a steep hill (hence the fabulous views). It's far enough away from the road to be quiet but you will almost certainly want to have access to a hire-car during your stay. San Pedro de Alcantara is about 10-mins drive away, Estepona 15-mins, Puerto Banus 15-mins, Marbella 20-mins, Malaga Airport 1-hr, Sotogrande 45-mins, Gibraltar 1-hr. A round-trip taxi fare from Malaga Airport is approx EUR150 but you can rent a mid-size car for less than that for a week."

"Enjoyable time at hotel - marvellous views over the golf course and towards the sea; attentive staff; clean, comfortable room; good food, and even entertainment in the evenings, albeit bar prices were rather on the high side ... (but you can always have a drink elsewhere). Overall, above average - we will return!"

"We have stayed at the Hotel El Paraiso in Estapona twice previously, the last time was three years ago. We did find the standard had gone down this time. On two occasions there was food left on plates on the floor outside a room for two days. The coffee and tea at breakfast was from machines only and was un drinkable. There were no tea/coffee making facilities in the room. The room was clean and the swimming pools were good."

"The Hotel is a golfers hotel. We went towards the end of the season and the services were winding down. They run a reduced hotel bus to the resorts, as the hotel is some miles from even Estepona and any beach. The breakfast buffet had a broad choice of options

The external swimming pool was closed for repairs and the smaller internal pool was not used.

The rooms were large and clean but not inspiring,only average

The staff were very friendly and patient with non golfing spanish speakers like myself.

There was a smaller bar at the top of the hotel which had a panoramic view of the area but we only went twice as it was small and not very interesting.

We had a room with a balcony which had a view of the hinterland and a side view
of the coast.

We got about a bit each day and in the end it was a relaxing break but we would probably not go again"

"Extremeley friendly and helpful staff from chambermaid to manager. Brigitte at the golf desk was really helpful and booked us golf times just when and where we wanted them. The Hotel breakfast was superb, Everything cooked fresh. Set us up for the day! Always plenty of sunbeds and room in the garden and pool area. Altogether a wonderful holiday. We hope to return for 10days from 23/4/07"
