"We spent the second August week in 2008 at the Grand Hotel Orebic and had an amazing time. The hotel looks brand new (although it was only renovated in 2007) and offers a very high quality comfort to its guests.
Our room was on the ground floor with a lovely balcony and park view. This was great because it provided a lovely shade and the room was never hot (although outside temperature often reached 32 degrees Celsius). The airconditioning also worked very well. The hotel is surrounded by a large park and is great if you want to have a quiet sleep (as opposed to some other hotels, which were located 0.5 miles away on the busy sea promenade).
Despite at the hight of the season, the hotel did not feel "full" and every guest could enjoy their own space. Breakfast and dinner were provided in a buffet style and the food was always fresh. For dinner, a selection of salads and 4-5 main courses was offered, one or two were always local fish. I would give the food a 4.5 star rating (5 being the best). Food was always fresh and very well prepared. I am giving less points due to breakfast coffee which was instant. You could order nice Lavazza coffee (for additional 10 Kuna - 1.00 GBP). Our favorite waiter Antonio was always very helpful and able to converse in 5 languages.
The pool area was also great, with ample deckchairs and umbrellas. Due to the high demand for the pool, many people put their towels on the deckchairs early in the morning to reserve 'space' for the entire day, which puts the guests in a bit of a competition mood. Despite that, you could still get places in the afternoon. There were two places you could get drinks or food at the pool, one was the hotel Cafe which offers really nice fresh salads (around 30-45 kuna, 1.00GBP - 1.50 GBP), sandwiches, ice cream, desserts and drinks which you can also take to the pool. Another alternative is the terrace "Lungomare" close to the beach where you can get the same. The evening programme was usually there as well.
The hotel offered a fantastic entertainment programme, with 3 classes and 2 activities per day. There were 5 Entertainment Staff that cater to the guests throughout the day and play music at the pool. The programme was always outside, about 50 metres from the pool: 10am aerobics, noon aquaerobics (great fun), 5pm yoga. Also at 10:30am and 4pm you could play ping pong, beach volleyball, basketball or learn Croatian. This schedule was alternated every day."
