Ralph from Woodford Green reviewed the Pirat Hotel
"Beautiful setting great staff and lovely food made it a truly memorable holiday"
Top Tip:
"Take the boat trips if its really hot, great breeze and plenty of chances to swim in the wonderfully clear waters around the turquoise coast. All for £25.00 dinner included."
"we had 3 rooms - they were all small and not really suitable for 2 adults - 2 were average with fridge/mini bar and tv but third room looked and felt like it was not one of the main rooms - it had no tv or minibar and the aircon smelt - it need a service. This was probably because the hotel was busy. The hotel is split over the road which is not necessarily a problem but one side has no lift and very steep stairs - not suitable for elderly people or even very small. However hotel is in centre of town so good for bars and restaurants."
Top Tip:
"good for harbour - did Scuba course - fantastic thing to do in Turkey in warm salty water - contact Dolphin Scuba for best service"
"we had an excellent holiday, everything was great except the children we ill for the last few days, however we all had a wonderful time and would love to return to the same place."
Top Tip:
"the palm beach club was great for water sports and a nice day out. also salt and pepper restaurant was lovely also aubergine was a nice place to have drinks and the people are so friendly."
"Lovely hotel, rooms made up every day and air con was nice and cold. Staff really freindly and helpfull.
It is suitable for families and the 2 pools are nice but very small and get a little bit hectic if you get kids diving or "bombing" as the sunbeds are close to the pools. Hotel was fully booked when we were there and all sunbeds were full with towels by 9am. with no people on them!!! Bit annoying!!
Resort is lovely, peacefull but very hilly for old people or babies in buggies but still worth the trip as the narrow streets, bars and resturaunts are well worth the hard walk up the hills.
We went half board, food was nice, ample if not a little repetative.
We will probably return another year as it was nice and relaxing. "
"Room was adequate and clean. Kalkan is a lovely resort and we are pleased we picked the PIrat Hotel as it was close to the front. Very hilly resort so would not have enjoyed the experience as much if we'd been staying in one of the hotels up in the hills."

"No top tips. It's just a lovely, peaceful resort which is great for relaxing."
"The staff who worked at the hotel were very friendly and made us feel welcomed. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
The breakfast was lovely, lots of bread, cheeses, olives and cereals.
It cost us £7 a night to upgrade to a seaview which was worth the extra money.
The Turkish night in the hotel was great fun and kids would enjoy it."
Top Tip:
"There are loads of restaurants to choose from but we liked the Kebab House, Doy Doy, Foto and Sofra. Also advise getting a bus to Patara Beach for the day (about 10 lira return), it is the nicest, cleanest beach I've ever been on."
"We stayed half board and found the food was really poor, plenty of places to eat.
We had a sea view which was beautiful but there was no lift and too many steps to the rooms"
Top Tip:
"We hired a boat for the day and went around the coast stopping at different coves for swimming and snokelling then had a lovely meal on board, really worth the money about £120."
Philip from Hildenborough reviewed the Pirat Hotel
"The hotel has arguably the best location in the whole of Kalkan and is situated next to the harbour. It overlooks the sea and is about a minute walk to the beach. It is also directly opposite to the harbour restaurants and a short walk, up a hill, to the main old town shops and rooftop restaurants.
The hotel consists of two sections with the main reception area operating out of the ground floor of the old building, which is about 8 storeys high. The newer half was constructed a few years ago across the road and consists of several blocks of small 3 storey buildings and the hotel pool, a couple of bars and the main restaurant eating area.
We stayed in the newer half, which was compact but clean and new looking with a wood panel finish in the bathroom. Its obviously not sumptuous being a 3 star hotel but after staying in Greece a few times and enduring their spartan hotel room finishes we were rather impressed with the finish of this room.
Kalkan itself is extremely picturesque and low key with the main emphasis on eating out and going to bars & cafes for after dinner drinks. There is a distinct lack of clubs and the town is aimed at couples and families instead of groups of people looking for a busy nightlife. Its main beach is pebble but I would say that I now prefer pebble after visiting Patara beach and getting sand in everything. You come away from Kalkan beach clean and above all its close by and boasts gorgeous views of the harbour and the bay.
We were very impressed with this hotel and are making enquires about returning next year. Great hotel in a great location in a great resort.

"The harbour restaurants are more expensive than the rest. We ate there a couple of times but preferred the rooftop restaurants, which were cheaper and still offered exceptional food with great service from waiters who made you laugh and smile. Visit Doy Doy just up from the harbour and go for the rolled beef. Best meal i've had in ages and again great service and of course lovely view of the bay. "
"Hotel Pirat was excellent, we were booked in on B&B basis. Breakfast was great, staff were excellent, tables cleared promptly, lots of choice in buffet, juices, coffee etc.
Location of Pirat was unrivalled, it occupied a corner of the harbour. We opted to upgrade our bedroom to one with a sea view, cost £50 and was worth every penny! View to die for!!
Booking next June with brother and sister-in-law."

"Best restaurant was Alternatif, ate there on 4 out of 7 nights so had to be good! Food pretty good in all restaurants but prices here were excellent. Just take road opposite Moonlight bar, and you;ll find the Alternatif. Say hello to Mustafa and the staff there, they'll definitely look after you!
Had lunches at Foto's bar, it';s just near taxi rank in town, look to your left, they have a large Efes for 3YTL!!! The salad's are great and the pancakes, made by Mum there, are as good as anything Gordon Ramsey could produce.
Local beach is fantastic, water is as clear as any you've seen, pebbly beach so no awful sand on your feet!"
"Extremely good value for money hotel. We were in the original part of the hotel and it is showing signs of being in need of a little updating, but would certainly stay there again. Staff all unbelievably friendly and fun."
Top Tip:
"1 minute from all harbour restaurants. 5 minutes from middle of town bars and restaurants. Great harbourside location."
"Initially we were put in a room which smelt very strongly of cigarette smoke despite the manager trying to assure us it was a non-smoking room. We then moved to a different room, which was fine except it had no fridge (a necessity when you have to drink bottled water!). Also, the air con wasn't brilliant. It would be better if the rooms had safety deposit boxes in the rooms rather than in reception.
Other than that, we were very pleased with the hotel.

Top Tip:
"Restaurant Rendezvous was superb - fantastic food, lovely atmosphere and really nice staff."
"Hotel was exactly what we wanted - great view and near to restaurants with good pool. Only downside was not being able to take any water or food in to the room that wasn't bought from the hotel its self, meant you had to use room service if you woke up thirsty in the middle of the night."
Top Tip:
"Never use A2B transfers, was a nightmare trying to arrange and you should be receiving a letter detailing how they went wrong in your name."
"Very friendly and helpful staff. Parts of the hotel are a bit tired and need updating. We did move rooms after the first night of very loud music coming from the No Name Bar up Cardiac Hill which went on to 4.00am.
This improved once we moved to the other side with a marina view room, which was very light and airey. The bathroom could do with an update, but the rest of the room was fine.

"The restaurants are second to none. The food was delicious and presented beautifully. It was difficult to have a favourite because it was a pure dining experience at kalkan."
"We had a wonderful time - no complaints about anything! Views from hotel room were stunning. We will be visiting again as soon as possible - one week was not enough."
"We had a truly fantastic holiday. The staff at The Pirat were so friendly, they couldn't do enough for you.
We are looking to return later in 2008. "
Top Tip:
"With so many fantastic restaurants to choose from in Kalkan and all within walking distance it is hard to recommend just one or two. Our favourits are
Doydoy
Alternatif
Arena
Gironda
Old Trading House

Nicholas from Northampton reviewed the Pirat Hotel
"I contracted food poisoning due to the way the evening meal was prepared and presented. There was an attempt to overcharge me for drinks I had at the few meals I had while at the hotel. When I showed the receptionist the bills he became verbally hostile and angry. I would not recommend the hotel."
