Great location for visiting Abu Simbel temple - excellent pools to relax in after hot sight seeing - food not great but you don't go here for a culinary experience
If you can fly to Abu Simbel do rather than the raod convoy (bus crashed whilst we were there killing 6 Belgians on an empty desert road!!)
Our only mistake in booking the Abu Seti was that we just booked for one night, and I wish we had stayed longer. This hotel is absolutely enchanting, and was the highlight of our recent trip to Egypt. The hotel is a 4* at best, but is comfortable and very well maintained. The grounds are stunningly pretty, with bougainvillea and other bright flowers tumbling from every possible surface, and the location on the banks of Lake Nasser is unbeatable. For such a remote location, the food at the hotel was surprisingly good, and the cost of drinks was much the same as elsewhere in Egypt. The hotel has two good sized pools on different levels, which are connected by a waterfall. The staff are delightful, although there is definitely a touch of Fawlty Towers to the Abu Seti, which just makes it all the more endearing. There was only one other couple in the hotel whilst we were there, and the peace and tranquillity just couldn't be beaten.
