Bluebay Lanzarote Hotel

“ hotel ok staff very good and polite at all times, location not ideal but a few bars and shops nearby. big let down was the food , ok if you like pork or chicken every day very repetetive. think cattle rustlers must have been on island as i never saw a steak all week.

“ Just returned from a week at the Blue Bay, shame about the weather, hotel was clean, friendly staff, no queuing for drinks and the food was fantastic I have been to quite a few all inclusive hotels and this has been the best ever with 2 themed nights in the restaurant as well as 2 lunch time cook shows in our week and there's always something to wet the appetite. The Beach was a five ten minute stroll so quite acceptable the only down side was the Animation Team nothing much organised during the day and considering they only did 1 evenings entertainment you didn't really see much of then and as the weather was so bad it would have been good if they had attempted more.

All in all good value for money and would return.

Rooms - great, spacious apartment style rooms, newly decorated with comfy sofas and flat screen TVs (not that we even switched it on) Cool at night and wished we'd asked for more blankets. Yes, the shower leaked a bit, but we just put a towel on the floor - no big deal! We didn't use the kitchen, but handy to have a fridge (and a bottle of water waiting when we arrived)

We didn't want a ground floor room as we knew there wouldn't be a wall to keep our son in, so we just asked for a quiet room. We were on the top floor (of 3) in E block. The layout of the hotel means that every 6 rooms have their own staircase, which cuts down on noise - no long corridors with doors banging all night! We were disturbed by the people below us one night, but otherwise it was fairly quiet. It is just pot luck if you get noisy neighbours I guess!

Restaurant - one of the best organised I have been in. Very friendly, efficient staff. Yes they clear the plates away promptly - so you get another one if you want seconds! They find you a table, which doesn't happen in every hotel and we personally loved the fact that they had an area where they put all the families with young children. This meant we didn't have to worry about disturbing other people. They were also very understanding and speedy cleaning up any spillages or breakages.

Food - typical all inc. The soup was better than average (2 choices at night and 1 at lunch), salad bar was good. Tendancy to overcook things, especially the pastries at breakfast. Desserts generally poor. Ice cream, fruit and yogurts always available. But I still gained 6 pounds! The chips were good.

Drinks - 2 coffee machines in the restaurant and one in the pool bar - great cup of coffee. (Latte, capucchino, espresso etc) Fruit juice the usual sugary, not very fruity stuff, but drinkable. White wine better than most. Beer good. The cocktails were the best I've had at a European All Inc - quite strong (hangover the first morning made us realise this wasn't the usual watered down stuff!) and drinks served in proper glasses (apart from the pool bar for obvious reasons)

Pool - the pools are freezing, especially the toddler pool which was disappointing. But plenty of sunbeds and space to lounge. There were loose mosaic tiles on both pools, which was bad, as my son kept picking them up.

Pool Bar - handy for getting drinks, but the snacks aren't up to much. My husband liked to have a chip butty at tea time, but it was all savoury - burgers, sausages, chips etc no cake and the fruit went quickly.

Location - fairly quiet and a good walk from the beaches, but shops and bars around. If you walked the 10-15 minutes to the centre there were lots more to choose from. There are good childrens playgrounds and a promenade 10 minutes walk away.

Entertainment - by far the best we've seen in European All Inc hotels because there were 1 or 2 outside acts every night. Each night starts with the obligatory Mini Disco (but if you have kids they love it!) from 8.30 til 9.15pm. Then there was either bingo or parrots or reptiles etc. Then at 10pm there was the main act - we only stayed twice as our son is young, but the rat Pack singer is great and we also saw a good singing duo. There were a circus act and a drag act also on while we were there. The room where the entertainment takes place is quite well set out, too - in Spain we've had to sit outside on plastic chairs.

Animation Team - we didn't join in any activities (no pressure which was good), but the only one who made an effort to speak was Salvatore. Just a simple hello and a smile would make a difference. Strange that they were the least friendly of all the hotel staff.

Things I wish I had known - there is a hairdrier and some toiletries in the room, and you can hire pool towels (deposit is 15 euros each, but you get this back) Wifi is fast, cheap and efficient in the lobby area (cheaper if you bring your own ipad or whatever.) It cost 2 euros for 3 hours wifi usage - which you can use whenever you want.

We would definitely return to this hotel and recommend it to people with young children. We have paid a similar price just for a bedroom not an apartment, so this was good value.

Room Tip: Blocks D and E quietest. Don't go for ground floor with a toddler, as the terraces are open.
