  • Helen from Bognor Regis reviewed the Alantha Apartments

  • "Returned on the 14th Oct from a week at the Alantha Apartments. The apartments are very well appointed with daily maid service and regular towel and bedding changes. We had a sea view and although above the road, noise was not an issue. The staff were great, very helpful and approachable. We went with teenagers (18 and 16) who had their own apartment, and they were safetly able to go off and do their own thing, as you are very close to everything. As mentioned before by other reviews there are alot of steep steps and uneven pavements around so those with walking difficulties may find it a problem. We would definitely use the Alantha again."

  • Top Tip:

"Spoilt for choice for good food, we did not have a bad meal. La Strada was a hit, went 3 times, also the tapas restaurant, sorry cannot spell the name (ask Linda)! As the euro is not strong expect to pay not far off UK prices though. Take a trip to Spinalonga on the Venus with Victor Zorbas as your guide, a character of 80!"

  • Andrew from Gillingham reviewed the Alantha Apartments

  • "The hotel was very clean and was cleaned regularly. Rooms are quite big and the facilities are great for self catering. Also the staff are really friendly and helpful, and give good advise on where to eat in the area.

The views from the roof pool and terrace are spectacular, and although we spent most of our time down at the beach, it did look like a great pool and place to relax.

The hotel itself is on a hill, so i wouldn't recommend for older people, but the walk to and from beach and restaurants keeps the weight off!!

We would definately go back to Alantha again. Top Hotel!"

  • Top Tip:

"The Restaurant at Hotel De Lac served some awesome food. We had a fish platter that was huge, and lovely. Fish can be quite expensive their however, but definately worth it. You should also try the Cretan Bread as a starter there, i think its called Dakos! There is also a great little Greek Restaurant called Alki down the hill to the right as you come out of Alantha, near the Pelagos restaurant. Very cheap and excellent food."

  • Heather from Bristol reviewed the Alantha Apartments

  • "This was my fifth visit to one of the Greek Islands and my third visit to Crete.

The apartments are pretty faultless. Whilst basic, they were exceptionally clean and modern with towels changed every other day. I had one VERY minor issue in that we had no shower hook so we had to hold the shower head with our hands but really this was no problem as the water was always hot and pressure excellent! Nice to have a bath to stand in too rather than a shower tray which floods the bathroom. To summarise, they are the best apartments I have stayed in on a Greek Island.

The rooms were spacious with all mod cons available and even English TV stations showing re-runs of Strictly Come Dancing (much to my husband's dismay)!

The pool area whilst quite small was a real pleasure with an unrivalled view of the sea. Jane provides additional entertainment and after 19 years has not lost her Welsh sense of humour! Nothing is too much bother. Her brekkies are a delight as are the chips!! Great choice of music too!!

The apartments are situated in a residential area and are quite high up so you will have a downward stroll into town but we warned about the climb home - its great exercise. Linda on reception is very helpful with handy hints about where to go.

All in all, I would recommend these apartments to anyone willing to get a free work-out and save on gym membership!"

  • Top Tip:

"We are not beachy people but there are plenty of small beaches to enjoy. We tried a wide variety of restaurants. La Strada seems to get a mention on here a lot and it is very good for Italian cuisine. Our favourite though was Knossos which if you come out of the apartments and turn left down the hill and follow the road along the sea, it is on the left hand side. A warmer welcome could not be possible and the food was EXCELLENT and quite reasonable. We also find the nicest white wine here but I cannot remember the name of it. If you want to test your culinary skills in the apartment there is a SPAR very close by with a quite impressive range of foods."

  • "Excellent hotel although you have to remember it is only an apartment hotel and not a 4 or 5 star hotel.
Exceedingly well kept and clean and with helpful, friendly and informative staff.
Unsuitable for older or the disabled due to the number of steps down to the beach (although there are roundabout ways of avoiding these)."

  • Top Tip:

"Trata was our favourite restaurant and there's a lovely bar called Toedeledokie, run by a lovely Dutch lady called Lucia who will make you feel very welcome. It's great for baguettes and toasted sandwiches too.."

  • Stephen from Crawley reviewed the Alantha Apartments

  • "I do not think the hotel is so suitable for older people because all floor surfaces are MARBLE... they could easily become slipery especially slip when wet .. image if older people were to slip they could very well hurt themselves.

Also I do not think that the pool on the top floor is suitable for older people. It is very difficult walk along edge as the sunbeds restrict the area between the wall and pool."

  • Peter from Twickenham reviewed the Alantha Apartments

  • "We had a fantastic two weeks in crete. The appartments were clean, well kept and the staff were friendly. The roof top pool was excellent with some fantastic views, however the lounge area is quiet small and i wouldn't recommend it for very young children. We went on the Greek night and would not recommend it,an hour and half coach journey each way, food not very good, entertainment ok.We found some great restaurants the Phlegus,La Strada,Christofulus just to mention a few."

  • Top Tip:

"We found a great little cafe at the bottom of the steps called Toedileoke Bar they do the best milshakes and excellent cocktails. They also have internet as we have a 14yr old. The Christofulus does excellent greek food and we had some great fish in a restaurant in Plaka where you can get a boat over to Spinalonga island."

  • "Really lovely hotel, quite close to town but not too close that you hear the noise. Might cause problems for people with walking problems as it was hilly! Only thing you'll need to watch out for is the air-conditioning. It cost 8 euros a night to have on and it was too hot not to."

  • Top Tip:

"Restaurants...there's a brilliant meze restaurant, the hotel will tell you about-fantastic. La'Strada was great and good value. Despite what people say the restaurants around the lake aren't expensive-I liked Las Casa!

Definitely do the boat trip to Spinalonga-fantastic day!"

  • "The Alantha Aparthotel is a great place to stay - as is Agios Nikolaos - Well done to the staff who were so friendly and efficient - (they do get lots of repeat business) our apartment was spotless as were all communal areas - the pool views were stunning
The apartment is in a good location with the centre and other beaches 5-10 mins max away and local bars restaurants 2-3 mins as is the jetty/small beach/diving school. Our teenaged children loved the basement games room (ping pong and pool table) would have been nice to have a bar but we got chatting to other holiday makers around the pool and snack bar during the day (Jane does a great job here!!!!) Reception staff all ways helpful (Linda great here with directions advice etc) Plenty of places to visit too! - to sum up we all loved the Alantha and the location 10 out of 10!!!!!!!!!"

  • Top Tip:

"Great go explore as there is plenty to choose from - plus food is often Italian influenced due to venitian occupation!!!! (prior to the brits!!!) very easy to find food to suit all requirements."

  • Nataliya from London reviewed the Alantha Apartments

  • "The hotel was a very average one. The one thing which was a bit of a shock - there are only twin beds in that hotel and no double beds. Therefore, my husband and me where very disappointed.
We also had a room at ground floor, which was basically almost basement floor. We had some smell in our room. The bathroom was complete rubbish with broken shower.
The staffs at the bar and at the reception weren't helpful. Drinks at the bar next to swimming pool were much overpriced comparing to the local.
I would not go to this hotel in future and would not recommend to any of my friends."

  • Top Tip:

"The restaurants around were very good. I would recommend Strada, Pelagos (excellent fish dishes), Trata, our favourite was Jo Xatheri, which is family run with great Cretan dishes and very good prices.
Trip to Chrisi is a must! We will definitely come back to Crete!"

  • "Apartments basic but very clean and spacious.........
    Staff very helpful and attentive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pool area a little restricted but rooftop lounge made up for this..
Quite a hilly location not good for the elderly
Air conditioning very expensive 8 euros a night I personally think 5 would be more of fair price..
But all in all we had a lovely stay at the Atlantha Apartments and would return ........"

Pelagos resteurant is gorgeous and that is just a stroll away to the right when you come out of your hotel..."

  • Darren from Colchester reviewed the Alantha Apartments

  • "Very friendly, clean, well maintained apartment block in a superb location. Whilst being in the middle of a largely residential zone may not be to everyone's taste the Alantha Apartments benefit from being sufficiently far from the resort's centre to be quiet have a relaxed feel, while on the other hand being close enough to get to the bars, clubs and tavernas in 5 minutes. Also althoug many guidebooks say that Agios Nikoloas has no beaches to speak of the Alantha Apartments are within ten minutes of a charming and relatively quiet sandy beach. Excellent!"

  • Top Tip:

"Being vegan I was worried that eating out would be a problem. Not so in Agios Nikoloas - the majority of the seafront tavernas and those around the lake (especially the pricey but well worth it 'Cafe du Lac') offer a large selection of side orders that are suitable for a vegan diet. Not one taverna complained when me and my girlfriend simply ordered a selection of vegetable side dishes and snubbed the pricey sea food! The 'Cafe du Lac' also served up bespoke vegan pizzas!"

  • Amanda J from Driffield reviewed the Alantha Apartments

  • "Hotel was excellent but rooftop pool is not large so no good for youngsters who want to splash about or play pool games. Area around pool for sunbathing is also very narrow so if kids are splashing everyone gets soaked!

Couldn't fault the hotel or staff in any way - would definitely go again and would recommend them to anybody. However, Aghios Nilolaos itself is a very hilly town with lots of steep slopes and/or steps to negotiate, so not suitable for the elderly or infirm. Also, very busy with cars along very narrow streets so you need to be aware if walking with children. Having said that, Aghios Nikolaos itself is well worth the effort with lots of lovely shops and restaurants, the lagoon is lit up at night and lovely to look at as you people-watch from a restaurant or road-side cafe/bar."

  • Top Tip:

"Having read previous reviews and recommendations, we would agree that the best beach and restaurants are to be found if you turn left out of the hotel and walk down the slope. Avra restaurant had fabulous steaks at 9.5 euros and very friendly service, plus a good traditional Sunday lunch (served all day) at 7.5 euros. The beach opposite had clear water, a gently shelving sandy beach, restaurant, snack bar and toilets, plus an abundance of sun-beds and parasols (2.5 euros per sun-bed/brolly etc). There were always beds available even at the height of the season and it never felt crowded, although the locals who use it seem to chatter c
