  • Michael from Dudley reviewed the Blue Sea Hotel

  • "We went self catering, however there were so many places to eat locally at reasonable rates we always went out. Only exception was breakfast, but you don't need to cook Cornflakes!
Take a travel kettle. (Or use a saucepan for your coffee or tea)!
Hotel was situated on the outside but close to the town so noise was at a minimum. Great location.
Visit everywhere on the island, the sunset at Oia, the ruins at Akritiri and particularly Fera. At Fera head through the shops to the old port. The view out over the Caldera and the Volcano is jaw a dropping experience.
    We WILL be going again!!!"

  • Top Tip:

"Next to Blue Sea Hotel is the Taverna Andreas. For the main meal of the day don't bother with the beach side Tavernas. The range, and quality of the food here is outstanding. Our holiday was the last week of the season and every night the place was full.
If you want a drink before going for something to eat, the Hotel Akis has a bar only front (No Food). Down the road to the town and first left. You can't miss it!"

  • Top Tip:

"Andreas Taverna right next door to the hotel, food great, service great, really good value for money and it is always full.
The Love Boat bar 10/15 minute walk from Hotel, Crazy Greek owner Franis."

  • Newby from Liverpool reviewed the Blue Sea Hotel

  • "We travelled to Santorini as group going to a wedding. The reception area of the hotel was ok. The rooms can't even be described as basic. The hairdryer had smoke coming from it (quite funny at the time). We just about had a fridge in the room. The worst thing about the hotel was the shower. It was salt water. You really felt like you couldn't get clean. Other hotels around kamari had fresh water showers. Also there were big bugs in my babies cot. When i requested a new cot the lady just said they come from the flowers and looked at me as if this was ok. I have stayed in some poor hotels but this was the worst. The pool was nice."

  • Top Tip:

"Go to Andreas or Classic. The food was very good in both these restaurantes"

  • Allan from Brentwood reviewed the Blue Sea Hotel

  • "This is a beatiful hotel in the old style greek decor Kept & run by the presant owners to a high standard. The rooms were cleaned and the sheets and towels changed dailey.
Ok The cooking facilities and shower were basic but worked well. With two swimming pools and a stunning bar lounge beautiful gardens we realy enjoyed our short stay.
This hotel is at the south end of Kamari just off the main front nice and quite yet only a few minutes walk to the beach. If we go back we would definity choose the Blue Sea again."

  • Top Tip:

"Down the steps past the second swimming pool turn left 50 metres to Andreas Taverna,
the best Taverna in Kamari we tried others but this place for us had everything we wanted except the sea veiw. Great food, great ambiance, wonderful service from George, the owner along with his brother and father. Try the sardines starter Wow !.
We reserved a table for the rest of holiday.
Santorini is a beatiful Island but don't forget to take good hiking shoes."

  • Ian from Stoke-on-Trent reviewed the Blue Sea Hotel

  • "Extremely welcoming. Good standard of accommodation. Quiet location, but only 100m from the beach. Some aspects are a little dated, our bath mat had more rips and holes than it was complete, but it's no great hardship in the scheme of things. This is our second year there."

  • Top Tip:

"For great food go to see Katarina and Stella at Danas [?????S in Greek] it's on the small road leading out of Kamari that you take to climb the mountain to see the ancient ruins. Tell them that Andrew and Ian sent you!

When in Fira don't eat in the rip-off establishments overlooking the caldera, watch the sunset for nothing; there's plenty of space by the main church. For good food go to Dionysus in Atlantis, lovely terrace overlooking the rest of the island; it's in a side street leading up towards the cable car, opposite the Koo Club. Try the lamb chops, they expect you to pick them up and chew, just like your mum taught you and for desert their own baklava is a must."

  • Robert from Kingston upon Thames reviewed the Blue Sea Hotel

  • "For pure location, the Blue Sea can't be bettered. You are literally 100 metres from the beach, one of two bus stops is about 20 metres away and you are right by the main stretch of restaurants (though far enough away not to have to endure the hustle and bustle). The self-catering facilities are basic but suited our needs and for the money, it was a bargain. It has two swimming pools and is run by a trio of charming women. Ideal for exploring the rest of Santorini or just lazing by the beach."

  • Top Tip:

"As you walk down to the beach from the Blue Sea there are two restaurants on either side, which are excellent. We avoided Remy on the left for a while, thinking it would be too expensive. We were wrong. It does fantastic food (better than we find in many top London restaurants) and is well worth going to. If you want something different from the standard Greek fair, I would definitely go there.

Navys on the other hand does high quality pizzas and pasta. It's thatch alcoves are a relaxing hang out during the day and there is a good atmosphere there in the evening. Friendly service and great drinks too.

Other restaurants are good, they are just your typical Greek tourist fair and only Remy truly stands out for food.

We definitely recommend Fira (go on the boat ride to the volcano and make sure you pack your swimming costume - they sail round the other side of the volcano and allow you to dive in the water, swim to the shore and cover yourself in warm mud. The mud is apparently therapeutic, but who cares, it's great!). Oia is also fantastic, the quiet and clean version of Fira."

  • Richard from Bury reviewed the Blue Sea Hotel

  • "It was what we expected. The lady that ran the hotel and I assume her daughter were lovely; very helpful and welcoming.

The hotel had two nice pools and the rooms had air conditioning which was needed in July.

No complaints at all - quite the contrary."

  • Top Tip:

"The bus to Thira and back were great and very reasonably priced.

If you want to go to Ancient Thira (just a mile or so from Kamari) book a minibus at the top of the main street rather than walking. It was too hot to walk at midday.

Lots of very good restaurants selling great food, coffee and crepes.

    Excellent holiday."

  • Joyce from DUNDEE reviewed the Blue Sea Hotel

  • "A great hotel given the price we paid for the accommodation.
The only thing that spoiled our stay was the arrival of arrogant, inconsiderate, Croatian students (there were some nice students too). Apparently there were around 700 of them staying all around Santorini. There were 28 rooms let to them in our hotel There were students staying in other hotels in Kamari and we heard complaints from guests at these other hotels as well as local restaurateurs"

  • Top Tip:

"There is an excellent restaurant (actually the first one you come to when you leave the Blue Sea) called Taverna Andreas. We avoided it for the first couple of days because of its proximity to the hotel, but now wish we had visited it earlier."

  • H from Dundee, reviewed the Blue Sea Hotel

  • "The owners and staff were all very pleasant and friendly. The location is great, just at the bottom of the mountain but only a 5-minute walk to the beach and restaurants. The accommodation was "average" by Greek standards judging by the holidays we have had in Greece previously, so we knew what to expect! We had a self-catering apartment but, again, we knew what to expect of the cooking facilities and didn't bother - especially as the restaurants were so good and inexpensive. Had a great time, very good value for money!!"

  • Top Tip:

"Taverna Andreas is right next door to the hotel - very friendly, family-run, tasty food.
Taverna Saliveras(?) on the main street by the beach - fab, non-touristy, great fava!!!!
Boat trip round to Perissa - good value (only 4 Euros I think), runs every 40 mins (ish)!
Ancient Thira - worth the hike even just for the views."

  • Debra from Penarth reviewed the Blue Sea Hotel

  • "Excellent value for money hotel. We paid very little and got 2 balconies and a spare bed in our room! Pool was nice and quiet with enough sunbeds to go round. The snacks and drinks around the poolside were reasonable, especially the fruit salad. The hotel is very near the end of the resort, so quieter than most and furthest away from the airport. Very near to road up to ancient Thira, a possible drawback would be the sun setting over the hotel pool some hour earlier than the beach due to its proximity to the steep hill. Breakfast is pretty basic, more or less bread and jam so many guests took their own toppings in!"

  • Top Tip:

"If your going up to Ancient Thira, bear in mind it closes early every day at about 3pm and allow some 90 mins to do it justice. More than average numbers visiting currently as main Akrotiri site on Island closed in 7/06 and for forseable future after collapse of roof and loss of life some time ago."
