Laurie from East Grinstead reviewed the Casablanca Apartments
Check-in Date: 12/Dec/2009

This is our second stay at this apartment complex. Both times we have found this place sparklingly clean, with good, well-maintained facilities (pool, bowling "green", tennis, bar-café, etc.). There is entertainment put on in the bar, and this year our apartment was right above it, but the staff ensure it's not too noisy and that it stops at a reasonable time. There is a small supermarket just a few steps from the main entrance, and an abundance of other shops nearby. The desk is staffed 24-hours a day by multilingual and very helpful staff. My one recommendation is that if you are renting a car for more than a day, you pay for a space in the under-ground car park -- well worth it to save hours looking for an on-street spot to park. And bring your own salt, pepper and sugar if you don't want to buy the fairly large packs of these available locally. Other than that, perfect! Walking distance to the main part of town (but down a steep hill or set of steps, and coming back up may prove a problem if you have difficulties walking) and to the Botanic Gardens.

Top Tip If you want salt-water swimming, it is well worth the money to go to Lago Martianez, a large complex of inter-linked salt-water pools.

The apartments are fantastic, well above the quality we expected. The staff are great and will do all they can to help you. When we arrived we found we had been upgraded to a beautiful two bed luxury apartment, but we asked to move to an apartment overlooking the pool area, and they offered us one the following day. They were so helpful and let us look at the alternative apartment to see if we prefered it to the one we had been given. The apartments are very well equiped for self catering, the maid comes in 5 out of 7 days, and the whole complex is spotlessly clean. If you don't want to cook, the bar restaurant serves good food, reasonably priced, so you don't need to go any further. The entertainment is good too. All in all an excellent holiday base. Don't worry about the steps down to the town, its an easy 5 minute walk down. slightly longer going back up, but there's a lovely little bar halfway down, so stop and enjoy the view. We go to tenerife every year to visit family living there and the Casavova apartments are by far the best we've ever stayed in. We'll definitely be back!

Top Tip The pool at the apartments is nice and there's a lovely enclosed central area for sunbathing with a bowling green and the bar/ restaurant. But if you want to go into town, the Lido is an easy 15 minute walk and you can enjoy the sea views and the variety of pools. Loro Parc is worth a visit too for a great day out.

The accommodation was just as people had described and very clean. The complimentary bottle of wine was a nice touch and we were upgraded to a one bedroom apartment which was a pleasant surprise. Food in the cafe/bar was average but it didn't claim to be more than it was and on the two occasions that we ate there it was acceptable.

Once again the transfer service was excellent, on time and hassle free and well worth the extra cost on our holiday.

Top Tip The Cafe de Paris sold some lovely pastries and florentines which we rewarded ourselves with after walking back up the dreaded steps to the apartments in the evening! We found the trick was to walk down the steps and up the path which was a more gradual walk. We are certainly much fitter for our visit to the Casablanca Apartments! There was also a chinese restaurant near the Lido in which you could eat as much as you like from the buffet for approx. 5 euros, good value for money.

This hotel was in a great location and within close proximity to shops and restaurants. You had to go down a lot of steps/road to the main town but if you had difficulty then a taxi was only 3 euros. The hotel was extremely clean and had all the home comforts that you would require. We never went to the pool because we preferred to walk to the most magnificent lido in town. Would definately recommend and would go back again.

Top Tip The lido was amazing, the biggest pool complex i have ever been at, it only cost 3.5 euros to get in for an adult for the day and just over a euro for children. This included beds, inside it was cheap to eat as well. A great day out.

The Casablanca apartments are excellent and maintained to a very high standard. The staff are always courteous and attendtive. My only criticism were that the matresses are very hard!

Casablanca apartments are the best self catering apartments I have ever stayed in. They were clean, well equiped and of a good size. Staff were always helpful and very friendly, nothing was ever too much trouble for them.

I would highly recommend these apartments to anyone - yes there is a steep hilll to climb but it's not really that bad once you get used to it! Excellent location. Puerto de la Cruz is definitely for people wanting a quiet and peaceful holiday!

Top Tip As with other reviews I would highly recommend a visit to the Lago de Martiniez (Lido) - it was absolutely breathtaking and a bargain for $3.50 entrance fee.

Extremely clean, spacious, well equiped appartments, friendly reception and staff. Restaurent limited in choice but plenty of others nearby. Would definitely recommend these appartments.

Top Tip Appartments are located on a hill but then so is alot of Puerto, go 'up' to La Paz as well as 'down' to the main town when looking for shops and restaurents the walk back is easier!!

Great, clean place. Only 5-10 mins walk into town(including a steep hill, but no big deal if you don't mind a bit of exercise. Very friendly reception, well equipped rooms(cleaned and towels changed 5 out of 7 days from what I remember) with microwave, oven/cooker, fridge and all utensils you would need. Asked for a fan in the room when we left for our first night out and there was one there reasy to use when we got back. Better rooms are where we stayed (on hotel El Tope side with sea view) or pool view. There was one side over the road.
Won't go into more detail, but I thought on the whole it was great value for money.

Top Tip Best restaurant by mile was slightly out of centre. Called Acapulco 4. In punta brava. Taxi drivers know it. (Next to another one called El rincon.) Cost us about €3 to get there. Family run. Open since 1981. Very typical place- great fish and seafood, (meat also) big portions, and much better quality than the mediocre tourist places on the sea front in Puerto de la cruz (e.g. Cafe de Paris....terrible food in my opinion!)
The lady who owns it is Maria...limited English I imagine (I speak fluent Spanish) but I'm sure she speaks enough to get by.
It's worth the trip!
Acapulco 4!

Had a lovely relaxing two weeks at the Casablanca. Staff exellent; rooms excellent; resort excellent ,if a little too quiet for teenagers. Not many English guests staying , mostly Spanish, with a mix of other Europeans, but in general the whole resort was very quiet. The Casablanca apartments are the best 3 star apartments you will stay in and deserve a higher rating ,though they could improve the evening entertainment with very little effort. The major problem with our stay was the cost of everything ; two teenagers + two youngsters = bring loads of money. Will not return to Spain until the Euro crashes ; the bars and resteraunts get real , or I win the lottery.

Top Tip Look at all-inclusive deals , have never bothered myself but the wife loves the sun, so if no lottery win ?

I became ill whilst on holiday the reception staff couldn't do enough for me they arranged for a doctor to see me and sorted out where to go for my treatment, and were always enquiring afterwards did I need anything.
The apartment complex was furnished to a high standard and the cleaning and maintenance was first class.
We'll be going back again and recommending it to our friends.

Top Tip Mama Rosa's italian restaurant and right next door a Tapa's and wine restaurant run by a German couple both had excellent food and wine

Great place. The spacious apartment was neat and tidy.

The atmosphere was great for couples etc but probably not as well suited for young singles.

Top Tip Get a Bono Bus card if you are using the local buses.

Hotel was spotlessly clean and all staff from reception to cleaners and bar staff were friendly and helpful. reception staff even took postcard to post for me. Good choice of meals from cafe bar on site. Pool always supervised by lifeguard when open. Couldn't have asked for anything better. Only slight draw back Puerto de la Cruz is very hilly and there are steps and slopes every where. It certainly keeps you fit. Of course the terrain is nothing to do with the hotel which was excellent in every respect.

Top Tip Pasa Doble, I think that's how it is spelled, close to hotel. Cheap and cheerful food delightful maitre de. Even made us welcome with three children under 5, not ours, our grandchildren!

On the whole we found the apartments were excellent value. We were impressed by their cleanliness and were clearly well looked after and maintained. Spacious for a studio. We had a bit of a problem with noise from a group of young men above our apartment at night but this was dealt with in a swift and effective manner by Security.

Their mattresses were very firm which didn't make for a very comfortable night's sleep but for 7 nights we could live with this and is a minor complaint.

Would have liked the pool to have stayed open for longer than 7pm.

Top Tip No top tips here as it was a bit of a drag climbing up steps to reach accommodation from the main centre of town and beach.
