Jane from Holmrook reviewed the Palladium Hotel
"A really relaxing holiday. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. We would certainly go back again. 5-10 minutes to the beach if you're fit, but a bit of an endurance test up hills and through fields etc, but the hotel has a lovely big pool with a poolside bar so no need to make the trek to the beach anyway.
Only 1 small minus, the food served buffet style in the evening was never any hotter than tepid (although an expat we met in the village told us this is the norm in Greece but as this was our first time in Greece we have nothing as a comparison)."
Top Tip:
"Take a travel kettle! There are no tea/coffee facilities in the room, so if you like a cuppa when you wake up you'd best take your own things.
Local shop "Exotic Market" out of the hotel turn left, 100yards turn right and cut through olive grove (like bondu if its been raining) then left on main road. It's the closest thing to Arkwright's you'll find, they stock just about everything. The lad has excellent English and is really helpful, he even took my watch to town to get the battery replaced.
Beware the Meteora (excuse spelling) trip!!!! With hindsight we should have just hired a car for the day and gone under our own steam. The tour company was OK Tours and I can tell you it was FAR from OK! Knowing perfectly well that we were English they put us on a coach full entirely of Romanians, with a guide that didn't speak English and only spoke in Romanian for the entire trip!!! Even French, German or Spanish would have helped, I could have understood that! Needless to say his incessant commentry, while causing our fellow passengers to jump up and down and take photos from either side of the coach, did nothing to enlighten us. When the bus pulled up anywhere and everyone jumped off we didn't know where we were, why we were stopping or how long we had before we had to get back on again. Although it was a trip to see a monastry, we were interested in the architecture, geology and history involved, but this appeared to be some sort of pilgrimage for religious zealots with no opportunity to jump off the bus and kiss an icon being overlooked. Eventually we decided that when the bus stopped only one of us would investigate and report back, normally with "Don't bother, it's only another picture of the fallen Madonna with the big boobies" - Just as well they didn't speak English!"
Shahida from Birmingham reviewed the Palladium Hotel
"There is no lift in the hotel; the pool is not heated; the hotel is very secluded, i.e. no shops, cafes or restuarants near by; and the beach, although 500 metres, is down 2 steep hills with a busy road in between. To get to the main road to get a bus or a taxi is down a steep hill (kills your legs walking back up). However, the hotel meals are good with plenty of choice (as long as you are not vegetarian), the accommodation is clean and tidy and the staff are friendly and helpful."
