"We enjoyed a lovely week at the Altamar, the food was fine, nice staff, the best evening entertainment we have ever been at, room had been recently renovated, great balconies, for us absolutely no downsides. People who know the Altamar know the legend that is the 'lifts' and the breakdowns become a source of conversation and entertainment."

"The standard rooms of the Altamar offer clean, basic accommodation. From what we could see the superior rooms offer a second patio window from the bedroom and access to all the hotel's pay tv channels. They're also at the top of the hotel, closer to the reception and shop. The beds are comfortable,the bathroom (shower, no bath) is a really good size and the big ceiling fans in the living area and bedroom will be left on permanently! There are 2 swimming pools, both of which are kept very clean. Pool A has no deep end, just a deep middle. This caught me out on the first day of my holiday! There are lots of free sun loungers but the mattresses cost €1 per day. There is a sports court but it's really too small for any serious sport. Breakfast and dinner are both "all you can eat" buffet style and are tasty if unimaginative. The bar is reasonably priced and offers a happy hour (bogof) between 4 and 5. The entertainment is provided by 4 Brits; Gazza, Gary, Ollie and Leanne. It is very British in style (bingo, "Open the Box" etc) but is good fun, especially for the children. The local shopping centre is about 5 minutes walk away. This has a decent Netto supermarket, lots of restaurants, bars, arcades, gift and electrical shops. Oh, and a great mini-golf course. Both the main Puerto Rico and Amadores beaches are about a €3.5 taxi away, or about a 30 minute walk if you're feeling adventurous. You won't walk back though! It is worth pointing out that very nearly all the rooms are accessed by stairs so the hotel can't really be recommended for people with mobility issues. Apart from that I think the hotel provides a good holiday, and I will definitely consider going there again. "

"The hotel served it's purpose although beware, if the lift breaks down it's alot of stairs to the top if you are at the bottom!! We arrived & the lift was not working, we got down but had to go back up to reception, exhausting! Overall the hotel needs a little TLC in places. The appartements were fine, clean & had everything we needed, cleaned every other day. The shower was probably my only criticism, could have been better, but thats a small negative. The balconies are very big & get the sun all day if you like to sunbathe by your appartment.......I would encourage you to go Half board as the food is really good. We decided to go B&B but after sampling some of the restaurants in Puerto Rico we were so disappointed, we didn't enjoy one restaurant, the Mexican we so wanted was awful & not what we were expecting. After about the 3rd/4th night we tried the hotel & paid each night, it was far better & very enjoyable, we wished we had gone Half board. Plus it is much cheaper than the restaurants & its eat as much as you like for under 9 euros. All in all we liked the apartments, just need a face lift. Reception staff were not the friendliest i have to say, but hey we didn't go to spend time with them thank goodness! "

"Excellent sea view from apartment, breakfast in restaurant was great and they had a huge selection of food. Entertainment at apartments was good, really friendly people- we particually enjoyed happy hour everyday! We we just a five minute walk from the Europa centre which was really good for shops, bars and restaurants, and a five minuite taxi ride to Puerto Rico shopping centre and the beach. It takes about 20 minuites to walk to the beach (all down hill- so would recommend a taxi back up!It normally cost abouts 3 Euros) We loved Puerto Rico and the Altamar apartments and would definately recommend it to people thinking of visiting Gran Canaria. "

"Very relaxing week at the Altamar, weather was hot. rooms adequate, bathrooms a little on the small side. Be warned the hotel is on a steep hill, although a lift is provided, but there is still some stairs to be negotiated. Entertainment the same as when we visited 2 years ago! However we still had a great holiday."

"The hotel reception staff were exceptionally rude and abrupt. When we arrived and checked in there was no latitude at all regarding any choice of room or the location of the room and despite the fact that we asked 3 times to be moved - we actually remained in the original room for the duration - this was mainly owing to the fact that it all seemed too much hassle."

"We have been to Puerto Rico many times now as it is our favorite holiday location. so we have stayed in plenty of hotels and appartments, and I can honestly say that the ALTAMAR is the best we have stayed in. Friendly staff, great entertainment, excellent food.The appartments are very clean and the maid comes every other day. We will definately be booking to go back here next year"

"This was a fantastic hotel, very clean, AMAZING SPACIOUS ROOMS, absolutely huge gorgeous balcony with amazing views, food was excellent, Animation Team (Gaz) were brilliant, so much varied entertainment at night, and for adults too, (which is quite hard to come by!) "We are regular travellers to Gran Canaria and it is the first time in this acommodation it has a good view over the side of the sea from the cliff top. The reception is very good and the rooms are not to bad although I would struggle to make them 3*. They get cleaned on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays only with clean bedding and towels although they looked as though it was a while since under the bed and sofa had been cleaned properly as when I brought out a bag it seemed to have picked up quite a bit of dust. The apartments are quite well equipt although to make a cup of tea you only have a saucepan to boil the water in. Although they overlook the sea they are quite a way down the hillside we hire a car but the taxis only cost just over 3euros for the journey which is very cheap a most of the taxis start at twice that in the UK. The hotel is very handy for the Europa centre which has some good places to eat as well as plenty of places for a drink and evening entertainment."

"Beatifull balcony on the apartment, large enough to sunbathe on with the provided sunbeds. Short walk to the Europa Centre where there are enough bars and resturants. Bus Stop on the doorstep to take you to the main beach."

"Friendly staff made this apartment stay really enjoyable. With an onsite supermarket, good bar area (poolside with views) and really good valued food (to suit all tastes). The rooms were of a high standard and cleaned almost daily. The swimming pools were fantastic and very clean. The views were amazing and it was easy to get around in taxis (charging as little as 3€ to the harbour) . The nearby beach was really nice and had good bars for food and drink. The Apartment is located close to the Europa centre offering shops and bars. There is a daily happy hour and various activities should you wish to take part. It was a great balance for peace and quiet or involvement in the Hotel entertainment as the staff make sure you have an option..... Great for families, couples and those looking for a high quality apartment."
