Gemma from Waltham Abbey reviewed the Apolo Hotel
"I stayed at this hotel with a friend for 4 nights - thank god it was not longer. We were greeted by a rude receptionist who took an instant disliking to us, probably because we were young (mid twenties).
We had dinner in the hotel one evening and then ventured out for the remainder of the stay. The food was limited (breakfast not as bad as dinner) and rather cold - added to which, there were staff pottering about who again, were incapable of a smile. Infact, me and my friend were slightly intimidated by the staff. A smile and a simple 'Hello/Hola/Bonjour goes a long way.
As for the room, it's basic but fine. However, our bathroom did smell terrible and the same smell lingered outside of the hotel. We were woken up 3 of the 4 evenings by groups of girls/boys screaming down the corridors at 4am - we thought this was a quiet resort? Just as we get back to sleep the chamber maids began their rounds with their very loud trolleys.
The location was good.
The pool was tiny.
I would not recommend, or stay at this hotel again."
Top Tip:
"The hotel Alexandra - around the corner, spoke to 4 couples who had returned year after year, took a look and this hotel looks lovely.
Also, a lovely friendly British cafe called 'Mels - highly recommended."
"It was clean, fresh and friendly. There was a bit of noise from the hotel next door but nothing to major.
The food was average when staying half board."
"This hotel is not one I would recommend to English visitors.... speak German and you'll probably be fine.
My room was filthy, thick dust on everything as well as hair on the floors and all over the bathroom. Many tiles were cracked and the grouting dirty. It took two days to get them to stop the sink from leaking.... attitude to me left alot to be desired..
The food on offer was uninspiring, repetetive and poor quality, total lack of fresh vegetables apart from the aging cabbages used as 'decoration'. Even the salad bar was a disappointment, no cold cuts or tuna etc.
The hotel mentions in some advertising about recent refurbishments... not sure where they did that as it's pretty shabby....
Best advice ?? choose somewhere else. "
Top Tip:
"Buses close by and easy to get to Palma.
Airport also close, good for taxi fares but beware, the aircraft noise is constant and the hotel is very close to the flight path."
"The hotel was fine. It was relatively modern and up to its 3 stars. The room was clean and comfortable. The reception staff were friendly and had good local knowledge."
Top Tip:
"We found a good Thai restaurant, the Chon Pra-Pra on the sea front, just before you get to Burger King! Also a lovely Sushi place on Calle Union in Palma.
Would also recommend the walking tour of the Modernist buildings in Palma. The tourist office at Plaza de la Reina has a brochure. You phone up to book a place.
