"The hotel room was fine with a decent bathroom and a powerful shower! The staff were good, though their command of English was weak (but then they are Spanish). There were some nice touches at the buffet breakfast, including free Cava every day and a superb coffee machine making expresso from freshly ground beans. Like most city hotels, however, there was a lot of noise from the street throughout the day and night - it didn't really bother us but might keep light sleepers wake. The location was convenient for the Las Canteras beach, but the local streets were surpisingly scruffy and run down. It seems to be a characteristic along the whole length of the beach that the promenade and beach are nice but the streets behind are rather decrepid."
Top Tip:
"Las Canteras beach is a very nice city beach - rather like a mini version of Copa Cabana in Rio. Public transport in Las Palmas is great and cheap and the Vegueta area around the cathedral is very nice indeed. The bar at the Hotel Madrid is full of character and does excellent food. Renting a car and driving into the mountains and around the West side of the island is highly recommended. The scenery is surprisingly dramatic. We paid 25 Euros per day for a Renault Clio."

"The hotel was very cheap, clean and quiet. It is in the central area of the capital and 5 minutes from a nice beach. Breakfast was buffet but good. Car parking is very difficult but not impossible."
Top Tip:
"I found a local bar/restaurant, 5 minutes away in the same street, 3 course meal, bottle of wine for 10 euros - excellent value. "

The Astoria Hotel is situated in the town of Las Palmas the capital of Gran Canaria. It is built in a central location, within the town-s business area but also just a few minutes away from the renowned Las Canteras Beach. Guests will have the chance to enjoy among others the swimming pool, the well equipped gym as well as the two squash courts. Its distance from the airport is approximately 20 km.
