Flying to Malaga ?

Malaga image

Malaga is a name synonomous with great holidays on the Costa del Sol, and Malaga Airport certainly is the gateway to the ever-popular beaches and resorts on the ‘sunshine coast at Torremolinos, Benalmadena and Fuengirola to the west. However, the visitor should not over look the varied pleasures to be found in Malaga town itself.

Only six kilometers from the airport, and only a 30 minute journey time from Fuengirola, the ancient town centre of Malaga has a wealth of interesting old buildings and squares, with cool bubbling fountains bearing witness to the centuries over which Andelucia was the ruled by the Moors.

Malaga is a wonderful place to explore and sample the delights of its many restaurants and tapas bars. Much of the social life of Malaga revolves around these places, where, in the cool of the evening, the townspeople gather to eat drink and talk. Should you be fortunate to be around in mid August you can enjoy Malaga’s lively summer festival of ‘Fiera de Agosto’, where a week long fiesta of parades, flamenco concerts and general high spirits fill the streets of the town’s centre to the enjoyment of all.

Visitors to Malaga, or the nearby resorts, with an interest in the past, should take the opportunity of visiting, the beautiful Palace-fortress of the Alhambra, at the foot of the Sierra Nevada near Granada . This amazing example of late flowering Moorish art is definitely one of the world’s great sights.
