"the hotel was stated a 4 star i would not give it a 2. when you entered the foyer it was very nice but when went to the rooms they were not very nice the aircon was useless and the was blan "
"The worst hotel we have ever stayed in. Classed as a four star. This is 2 at a push. Very shabby. Very run down. Not very clean, bedrooms, hallways and pool area dirty. Entertainment - advertised but not actioned. A long walk away from anything else( no footpaths either). Hotel actually situated next door to a strip joint! and the beach which is a walk away a dangerous one. Family hotel? Have all the photo's to back this. Food not very good. Staff over worked and un-friendly. (apart from Kevin and George - british) Just a very badly managed hotel, indeed the Manager not caring what we thought. Just asked us to move if we did not like it???? And just sat at bar smoking all day/night. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL. EVEN TO OUR WORST ENEMY. If had paid 2 star money that would be OK, but did not. "
"For anyone even contemplating staying at the Avlida Hotel in Paphos - DON'T! I can honestly state that it is the worse hotel that I have ever stayed at. Prior to booking I read the reviews and thought it would be a good place to stay - how wrong that was! The Avlida is meant to be a 4* establishment - I would not even rate it as a 2*. I was extremely glad that I only had to endure it for 6 days (although I booked 7 but came to the end of my tether on the 6th). Fellow holidaymakers staying at the hotel did not have a good thing to say about it. I would advise all Travel Agents to remove the Avlida from their brochures/sites. In essence; the room was shabby (skirting boards falling off the wall, mould on the ceilings, bathroom disgusting, no bathroom lock/door, sheets were stained and ripped, panel hanging off the walls in the corridors, no fire equipment in the halls, staff were rude and discourteous, bar staff attempting to charge for drinks you did not have, employees being reprimanded in front of paying guests. Finally, stay away from this hotel. It is overpriced for what you recceive. In all honesty, if I was a hotel inspector I would close it down or drop the star rating considerably."

"How this hotel gets a four star rating is totally beyond me !!!!. When you walk in the reception area you probably think you are onto a good thing as its quite nice and the bar area is also, except for a few dated sofa's. After that you enter the hallways to your rooms and straight away you know its not going to be the best rooms you have stayed in. The hallways and rooms are very very dated and probably have not been re-furbished since the 1970's. The biggest concern that should be addressed immiediately is security. By accident on my arrival I went to room 117 instead of 171 and I could not believe that my key fit that room, this intrigued me and I tried my key in other rooms and low and behold 1 key fits all. The only saving grace for this hotel was the lovely girls who serve the drinks they were very friendly and very nice, unlike the actual bar staff who totally ignore you. Food was not up to much with nothing that is suitable for children on an evening. I would never go back to this hotel !!!!"
"The hotel itself was very nice! The food was great and eat there most nights, the entertainment was not all that good, although cant complain it was not aimed at younger couples, but still enjoyed it. Most staff were friendly and the location of the hotel was great, bus stop outside the hotel and various car rental places near. Would definatly go back again and looking to book another holiday there already."
"This hotel is extremely tired and well overdue for a refurb. Certainly not a 4* Pool was particularly poor both in relation to position ( down the side of the hotel with no outlook) and its condition - numerous tiles missing and replaced with cement, area around the pool badly cracked and dangerous. Food was very poor and refills to buffet very slow. However after complaints to manager there was a marked improvement in both aspects and the salads improved markedly but main courses still boring. Exactly same breakfast for 2 weeks. All staff extremely pleasant and helpful. Drinks reasonable and usual entertainment but at least there was some every night."
"Hotel was never a 4 star in a million years, much in need of redcoration, we went 1/2 board and the food on an evening was very good except there was nothing for children, we had to give our 7 year old son who doesn't like sauces on food a banana each night from the buffet and some jelly, and then go and get him somthing to eat when we went into Pahos on an evening. The drinks were expensive it costing me 4 Euros for a coke one day and they insist on serving you which takes twice as long as what it would if you went to the bar yourself. entertainmnet was poor and we never stayed in to see it was better in phaphos town. The mini bar didn't work neither did the radio in the room and it said tehre wqas kids entertainmnet but there wasn't. the hotel is far out of the town so no good for couples who want to go to the bars and too far to walk for children, athough we did get the bus into town which ran every 15 minutes, only problem was the last bus back was 11.00pm so a taxi had to be used for 8 euros for about a 2.5km journey. whilst the weather was hot. I would not go back to Cyprus or this hotel. the whole place is way to expensive and I honsetly don't know how the locals can survive if they have to pay the same prices. The place is out to make money out of tourists like us. "

"The Hotel is in the middle of relativlely no where. a ten quid cab ride for a night out. Boring awfull compere type northern chappie played frank sinatra all night for a week. Food chronic and boring, most staff great but Managers both general, restaurant and F & B were stern misaerable and less than charming. BEWARE HERE IF GREECE ARE PLAYING FOOTBALL THE MANAGER WILL TURN ALL MUSIC AND ENTERTAINMENT OFF AND YOU GET TO HAVE TO SUFFER GREECE ON THE PLASMA AT FULL VOLUME. "
"Hotel in need of refurbishment in accomodation areas otherwise very smart.Lovely pool great food and even better staff , all who were helpful and polite. Situated in location very close to all amenties and walking distance to local market.Mainly families and older people and entertainment adjusted accordingly to meet needs of these groups.Very relaxing holiday"
"When you enter the Avlida it impresses as a four star hotel, but all such similarities end when you enter the lifts. The blurb refers to recent upgrading, but where? certainly not in the accommodation area. The rooms and corridors are shabby, balcony grubby, TV poor condition. Meals very hit or miss, ranging from excellent to (all too often) almost inedible with meat one could scarcely cut never mind chew. We were AI and expecting quality meals. Pool area and surrounds were good. The hotel's saving grace was it's staff, especially the younger ones who were attentive, cheerful and helpfull (many of the older ones were sullen and disinterested). The entertainment was poor with only two "live" acts per week (repeated the next week) the resident DJ/entertainments offr did his best and was a cheery guy but he was on his own. We chose it because of it's star rating but this is by no stretch of the imagination a Four Star Hotel. "

"THE FOOD WAS THE BEST IN CYPRUS AND WE HAVE STAYED AT MANY4 STAR HOTELS.THE SERVICE WAS EXCELLANT EVERY DRINK WAS SERVED BY A REALLY FRIENDLY WAITER.THE CHRISTMAS AND NEW YR ENTERTAINTMENT COULD NOT BE FAULTED AND I CAN SAY IT WAS A REALLY FABULOUS HOLIDAY ALL ROUND .EVEN THE COFFEE WAS SERVED WITH CUPS NESCAFE SACHETS SUGAR AND WITH THE HOT MILK AND WATER IN POTS . NOT YOUR USUAL ALL INCLUSIVE.WE ARE GOING BACK IN MAY SO THANKYOU FOR A WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS"

"Some of the reviews that I had read befor going made the hotel sound awful and on getting there we were looking for all of the bad things that I had read, but we were pleasantly surprised to find most of the complaints unfounded, the hotel is clean and tidy, food is quite adaquate, always hot and constantly topped up. There are 1 or 2 broken tiles around the pool but the rest of the area is very well kept. The rooms could do with a little updating but nothing was broken or dirty and when the televisions all stopped working one night due to weather conditions the maintenance men came to every room the next day to retune them all. The comments about the staff were totally wrong, as we found them all very friendly and helpful, we never had to wait for a drink in the bar or at the pool. Ali the bar man was very nice, he made a point of having a chat to us each evening and on the day we left he came out of the bar to shake our hands and say goodbye. If we went to Cyprus again we would not hesitate at staying at this hotel."

"The hotel was run on minimum staff, the all inclusive drinks were vey limited and you even had to buy water. The snacks were only available for a couple of hours each day, with nothing available after 9.30 when the restaurant closed. The entertainment was the worst I have ever experienced. This hotel is not a 4*, we paid for the package £550 per person for the week, which only really equated to 6 days in the hotel, very expensive for poor quality."
"Paid extra for sea view but this was across parking area, filling station and road but as on third floor this did not matter but might have done better with pool/side sea view. Room cleaned thoroughly every day. Only gripe was that bar staff were slow to return change for payment for drinks ordered on patio. Read on web that drinks at hotel were expensive but pint of Lager only £2 (english money) though cheaper at local bars but that is expected. Mile or more to harbour but bus quite frequent - 80cents (£1)"
"After I had booked the Avlida Hotel we went onto a site that informed us what other holiday makers thought of their stay at the Avlida, some of the comments were not very good, firstly I panicked, then I thought to myself "well as it is already booked i will start my hols with an open mind and make my own decision". Once we arrived at the hotel, we were impressed how inviting and nicely situated it was. Throughout our stay we could find no fault what so ever with the Avlida. The staff were great ,friendly and they worked dam hard, rooms were cleaned throughly every day, clean towels every day, food was plentiful and always hot, pool area was clean and very picturesque and I really enjoined the river run. Entertainment was basic, but I really enjoyed Quiz night and sing a-long night (we won the quiz!) After my wonderful holiday I decided that all the bad letters I had read before hand to un-warranted and made me beleive that there are people out there that moan at everything and really need to get a life. Avlida Hotel was well worth the star rating and we are even talking of going back soon. Thank you "Travel Republic" for making my holiday decision a success, if you never had the Avlida on your site then perhaps our hols would have been disaster. "
