Sharon from Sydenham reviewed the Azia Club and Spa Hotel
"The communal areas were beautiful and if it was on this alone then I would rate it as excellent.
The food was delicious, the lobby stunning, the swimming pool was large and there were plenty of sun loungers amongst a very well maintained and pretty garden.
The staff especially those that worked in the main bar and pool side bar were friendly and welcoming.
However I stayed in one of the premium club rooms which was a huge disappointment.
Superficially it should have been great as there was granite in the bathroom and sun loungers on the balcony but it was not.
The bedding smelled faintly of stale body odour and the mattress was fairly uncomfortable.
The bathroom lights flickered for a while when turned on and were very dim. The shower and bath curtains looked a little old and were slightly stained. There was not a power shower and the water seemed to trickle out. When I first went in I could detect a musty smell which resembled sewerage.
I hated having a shower in it as I mentioned before due to it being slightly musty with flickering and dim lights. I kept imagining flies hovering around or a dead body somewhere. However this was obviously my imagination and was certainly not the case.
There were lots of ants in the room and even though I never left the balcony door open I seemed to have kept being bitten during the night when I was in bed.
There was a large sofa in the room but looked as if could have done with industrial cleaning as it was a little bit stained and had ants crawling around.
The only advantage staying in the club rooms (although very minimal indeed) was that you had access to a communal room with a large t.v, internet and a large comfortable sofa. You got free tea, coffee and biscuits in there at 3pm. However it got fairly busy and they only provided one pot of coffee and tea, one jug of fruit juice and about 10 cookies which was not enough for everyone in there.
Another down side was that teenagers from nearby apartments kept coming in to use the pool and facilities and were a little bit noisy. I begrudged paying a hell of a lot of money for my weeks holiday when others could use the hotel apart from the disappointing bedrooms for free.
This continued for 3 days of my holiday until another person staying kept complaining to reception about the teenagers and they were all asked to leave when they turned up again on the fourth day.
The dinner was exceptional however the breakfast was a huge let down. The continental breakfast was a buffet but the items were small and hard. It tasted cheap.
I do not believe it was worth the money and if I was to stay again then it would only be in the cheaper azia blue part of the hotel as the club and spa wing was overpriced and in desperate need of updating.
"
Top Tip:
"The local beach about a couple of minutes walk away from the hotel was uncrowded as most people went to coral bay which was about a ten minute bus ride away as it catered more for families.
