"Very cheap
Great breakfast (Huge)"

"The all inclusive was satisfactory, good value for money, and allowed us to taste local produce, but did get a bit dull after a few days.
Be careful about the activities available at the hotel as when we were there the better things - scuba, sea sports etc were unavailable (as out of season), but obviously we were not informed of this when booking.
Consider all inclusive carefully as it means you cannot eat out in other places without feeling guilty as you have already spent money on food. And there are many nice places to eat out around Machico - however obviously at European prices.
In my opinion this hotel is not 4 star, however the room and bathroom were very nice - essentially very good value for money. The cleaners start at 8am and the noise in the corridor did wake us."

"It does not have 4* facilities. The hotel is very dated, and doesn't have air conditioning in all rooms. The food is basic - only one choice of meat and fish.
The hotel is in a nice resort and has great views of the hills and sea."

"Machico is a lovely traditional holiday town. We found the Dom Pedro Baia excellent value for money on the All Inclusive Basis. The Hotel is spotlessly clean, towels changed daily, bed linen every other day. Hotel reception very helpful, we had requested two rooms together, on arrival we were two floors apart, two minutes later we were two doors apart, thankyou hotel receptionist. The food, although simple was fresh, tasty and plentiful considering they cater for many different nationalities (perhaps the breakfast choice could improve a little {but that is a comment not a criticism). An excellent resort for those who are not looking for busy nightlife, but there is entertainment every night in the hotel. All in all we had a very enjoyable holiday and would go back again in the future."

"Hotel was clean and in good decorative order. Food was not good, however when we asked for chips for my daughter they did make them for her. Staff always seemed harassed, and on many occassions, when we went down for breakfast we could not find a cleared table to sit on. This hotel is definitely for older people due to the entertainment and facilities, or only as a base if you plan to sightsee all your holiday."

"Hotel staff were courteous and obliging. Room clean and good side sea view, but no aircon which would have been appreciated as it was warm at night with little air. Hotel situated very close to the beach promenade and a short walk to the the shopping area.
Some airplane noise as planes take off the other side of the headland but was not a problem."

"The room we stayed in was well appointed, with lovely views of the sea, the mountains and the beach as well as pretty gardens and quaint chapel. The room was very comfortable with a nice little table area by the window to enjoy the views. It was quiet night and day, (unless your holiday coincides with the Food Festival Week when there was more noise but not excessive.) The hotel enjoyed the twin benefit of being central to the (small, friendly and pretty) town and being right on the beach. The pool was a good size and square - very good for fitness swimming - and not too crowded. The bathroom was excellent. The cleaning service was good, as was the hotel reception. The staff were always helpful and friendly and the breakfast was very good. You can opt for all-inclusive but we just had bed and breakfast as there are plenty of decent restaurants very near to the hotel. I would say there was not very much to do if you took children, but Madeira is not really a "lay back" around the pool kind of place, being better fitted for touring and walking holidays."

"We were upgraded to club class, with a balcony, as the hotel was full, but no coffee/tea facilities in the rooms was a disappointment. The view was wonderful, across the small bay. The staff were helpful, and everywhere in the hotel was comfortable and very clean.
Although there were families with toddlers, this hotel is not great for older children and teenagers, as there was only a 'kiddy' pool, table tennis and pool table, although scuba diving, bicycles and a volleyball court were available.
The variety of hot food offered was limited, and very boring if vegetarian, although the salads were good, and fresh.
Machico, where the hotel is located, is a smaller, quieter town, with only minimal entertainment in the area, apart from that offered in the hotel, which was good. (There was a saints day celebration at the weekend on the open area near the beach, with groups, dancing etc)"

"The Hotel was stated as a 4 star. Breakfast was fine, but the evening meal left a lot to be desired. I wonder if it is due to the fact that the hotel now operates an all inclusive function, as well as B & B and half board. Room and staff were fine.
We were glad that we had upgraded to a club room, thereby having a balcony"

"Very friendly staff & service, clean rooms and various food in restaurant."

"The Hotel was in a splendid position, with great views-even from the elevator!
It was v near to the beach and the town, yet not in a noisy position, and was convenient yet relaxed. Particularly suited to those over 35 who prefer great scenery to discos! The entertainment was fine, with lots of 60's 70's and 80's music and a delightful folk dance group. The swimming pool was also great, and did not feeze my nether regions!
Maybe some of the hotel staff could smile a bit more, but were usually helpful when treated politely.
The island was v scenic, clean and safe( apart from those hairpin bends!) and I would love to go back.It has everything that many of the Mediterranean resorts do not have, including some of the most dramatic views ever. However, probably not suited to disabled, due to the v steep gradients.
Yes, I recommend it!"

"Lack of waiting staff and very ordinary food , especially at dinner, let down a hotel that in all other aspects was four star.Spotless rooms and linen. The hotel could not cope with the number of guests and there were queues waiting for dinner tables as they were slowly prepared for waiting guest. Some of the main courses were not much better than school dinners. Brown sausage and turnip soup being one. Two star food and waiting service. The pool was cold, not heated and had become a refuge for smokers to sit round, both on the loungers and at the bar tables. Beach very pebbly and not suitable for swimming. I wouldnt stay there again and neither would some of the other guests to whom I spoke."

"Great and professional staff!
I' m working my self in a 5 star hotel//
amaizing location!!
Great prices!
Just go there!"

"nice clean rooms
poor food, limited variety
dreadful restaurant service, tables not cleared, nowhere to sit, food, crockery and utensils constantly running out and not replaced promptly. disinterested staff.
pool liable to invasion by unruly local children.
the folkloric night sums up the entertainment programme - man with guitar who sang 'new york new york' !!!"

"Hotel was satisfactory but I would question the published 4 star rating. Some advertised features were only available in peak season and the swimming pool was advertised as heated but was only heated towards the end of our stay."

"Very nice hotel, went with my husband and 2 year old son. Hotel rooms, clean and good size. Food buffet style OK. Worth paying for all inclusive for a day £25 euro. Pool OK. Only hotel in bay. Went in April so very quiet. . Overall, good value for money hotel. However, not very lively area for younger couples."

"Dom Pedro Baia Hotel, Machico was a wonderful little find.
The location to the beach and transport links was better than expected.
The staff were very accommodating, and there was plenty going on.
The room we stayed in was a double with an amazing view from 8th floor.
Although for a 4star hotel, I was surpised that there was no mini bar in every room, no hair dryer, no shampoo or other suitable luxuries for guests. Only certain rooms on a particular rate received that.
The hotel bar was limited and mainly attracted older people and those with young families.
Other than that I would highly reccommend the hotel for a short break."

"I consider this hotel to be 3 star
The food was 3 star and sometimes 2 star
facilities were 3 star
Rooms were 3.5 star
It would be too busy in high season. It was OK when we were there."

"Free upgrade of room when arrived. Service from staff very good. Enjoyed evening entertainment. For price paid, holiday represented good value for money. Hotel good position. Lovely sea views from room and restaurant.
Not best hotel if people find it difficult to go up and down steps/stairs or expect top restaurant. Latter due to costs which need to be controlled by hotel, but food and choice still generally good."

"Facilities good. Staff very helpful"

"Good service, pleasant staff for whom nothing was too much trouble."

".Hotel was very clean and staff were very pleasant, a very relaxed atmosphere. The biggest fault is the food, very limited choice and luke warm. A very good value for money holiday though"
