"Balcony was great overlooking sea. Unfortunately there was an extractor of some sort on the roof of the restaurant below us which was very noisy. There is also building work going on in the area which was also noisy and we had a crane in our view. We had half board option at the hotel which was a mistake. The salad and soups were fine as were the desserts but the main course was poor -only 2 options one fish, one meat and a kind of veggie option. They were often luke warm and the meat tough. Breakfasts were great. The info said the hotel was 2km from Funchal centre but it was more like 2 miles and too far to walk there and back. Staff were friendly polite and helpful. Room and bathroom were large and well serviced. Despite minor grips we had a splendid holiday and would love to return to Madeira but not to this hotel."
Top Tip:
"Beach at Ribeira Brava great. There is sand (albeit black!) and a lovely safe swimming area where the water warms up during the day. A ride on no. 81 bus from Curral das Freiras to Funchal is a scary but exhilarating experience (and much cheaper than the toboggan run!) Walking the Levadas was great as long as you have a head for heights - one from Monte to Romeiros is lovely and not too long - you can bus it instead of taking the cable car. Top tip for bus travellers - get a complete timetable from the tourist office in centre of Funchal for just over 1 Euro on arrival. There are several bus companies which can be confusing so this timetable helped greatly."

It has magnificent views of Funchal bay and in the area there is a wide variety of restaurants and bars. It offers a free courtesy bus to and from Funchal (2 km away), while it is only 300 m away from the sea and 20 km away from the airport.
