"For a thee star hotel I was very impressed, the apartment was clean and spacious, there was a small balcony, reasonable bathroom with plenty of hot water, sitting room with table and chairs, small kitchenette with fridge and hotplate with crockery/cutlery etc. The pool was clean and plenty of space for sunbeds/parasols, all provided with towels. The bar was two very small groups of chairs with the rest of the space given over to the restaurant tables and chairs but reasonably priced beer etc. Breakfast was in a smallish dining room but very good with an excellent selection of different breads, jams, honey, scrambled & boiled eggs with another choice such as bacon or sausage, cereals, fruit, yoghurt, tea/coffee, hot milk and juices. It was kept well topped up and tables cleared quickly and efficiently. The free coach into town was excellent, it ran regularly although it was not always able to take all the people who wished to use it, I would advise getting to the bus stop early to get a seat!"

"I'd said it's near the beach, because while there aren't any beaches in Funchal it IS very near the sea.

The hotel was great, the food was lovely and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful.

It's just outside the main Funchal city centre, but there are still plenty of places to eat and drink.

We're definitely going back."

"We found this a clean, comfortable hotel with friendly, helpful staff and in an excellent location, with a great pool and sunbathing area.

We thought Madeira was beautiful, with plenty to do in the daytime and lots of great restaurants, but were a bit bored in the evenings."

"The hotel was much better than I expected for the price we paid. The rooms were spacious and clean. The only thing I would say is that there is no shallow area in the pool so for small children it is not suitable. There is a taxi rank right outside the hotel entrance which is very convenient for getting out and about. Overall a very nice hotel for the money but the breakfast buffet is very bland."

"Clean, staff friendly, but let down by restaurant. Poor selection at breakfast, hot food almost cold. Often had to wait a while for dishes for cereal, spoons and cups.. Took them ages to clear tables. Chef restaurant at night staff friendly but again let down by food. Very repetitive and not very imaginative. Felt a bit like poor relations as it was also open to the public and what they got was far nicer than ours. Booked room with garden view, it turned out to be room with view of 8 cranes, and a building site. Complained and given better room but same view."

"Good hotel offering excellent value for money. Room was well-sized with two balconies, one overlooking the sea. Amazing views! Nice little kitchenette in the room with a fridge/freezer and basic equipment. Staff were friendly and helpful.

Hotel pool was being renovated during our stay, but we were offered use of the 5* Tivoli's pool less than 5 minutes away, which was just fine by me.

The Florasol was situated on the western side of the "Hotel Zone" - so further away from central Funchal than some of its competitors - but still less than 5 Euros in one of the plentiful taxis.

Only two quibbles of note: the breakfast was no better than average (but given the price of the room still pretty reasonable) and the lifts were so noisy that you could hear them in our room (annoying at night!). But overall, a great value hotel without doubt."

"We had to change hotels due to the fact that they had emptied the swimming pool and were drilling immediately below our room and could not offer us an acceptable room in the hotel. However we transferred to another hotel within the group which was of 'average' standard"

"We found all staff very friendly and hospitable. The accommodation was very good, room service excellent. Breakfast was adequate and service very good here also. Reception staff were spot on with information. All in all a very pleasing visit for the price of the stay."
