  • BERYL from CARDIFF reviewed the Golden Odyssey Hotel

  • "One thing that I had no complaints about was the cleanliness of the hotel and surrounding areas, the maids did a fantastic job.
the hotel did put a free bus on to the beach which was very good.
my main complaint was that reading about the hotel on the web page it stated nightly entertainment and bar snacks.
We had no entertainment what so ever and the pool snackbar was never open.there wasn,t even piped music in the evening which spoiled the atmosfere.Speaking to people that were on their 2nd weeek there we were informed that the previous week was very different.we may have gone a week later nearer the end of season, but we paid the same it wasn,t cheap, so we expected the same hoilday as others throughout the season.
the food was average but got a bit boring throughout the week and desserts were practically non-exsistant.all in all it could on been a much more enjoyable hoilday if everything advertised on the hotel page turned out to be true!"

  • Top Tip:

"In the town we did find a nice bar that did buy one get one free cocktails all day!!and the staff were very friendly. also i suggest that you take a bus to Rhodes town and definatley Lindos where as well as loads of shops there is plenty of history and the beach is to die for!!!
The bus stops just outside the hotel and will only cost you 3 euro's each way"

  • "the hotel was not correctly described, the food was nice but always only luke warm.
the location of the hotel needs to be described better as its on its own and you are isolated there as if on a desert island with no phone or contact with the outside world."

  • karl from swansea reviewed the Golden Odyssey Hotel

  • "Nice hotel located inland and at least 20-25 mins walk to beach, although the hotel does have a free shuttle bus which runs a few times during the day, a bit of a problem when there are 30 people waiting and the bus only seats 16 max, the driver however was obliging and did make second trips if needed.

The hotel only has one bar and as it's all inclusive getting drinks can become a chore , having to queue for long periods. Local spirts served only on all inclusive you have to pay 4 euros for a imported spirit and dont hold out too much hope of getting drunk on the hotel cocktails as we tried and failed miserably no matter how hard we partied!! only saving grace was the local larger was on tap and self service, Bliss.

Hotel food was predictable but plenty of it and a good selection, deserts became a bit of a joke as to how long they could stretch chocholate mousse over a seven day period and was there any other fruit in greece other than peaches and grapes, 4 days to the former and no to the later at least in this hotel.

Staff varied in degrees of rudeness apart from the reception staff, animation team and the room clearners who were all polite, the bar staff and restaurant staff seemed stressed but efficient, but you just laugh through it knowing that your away after 7 days and they have to stay.

Rooms were, i have to say, spotless and sheets changed every second day and towels daily which was nice touch, air conditioning was free (we had been led to believe that a charge would be levied which it was not) and a blessing as we stayed the second week of September and the temperature was 31C + in the day & 26C at night.

Lovely pool area and plenty of sun loungers although a few were broken and various attempts were made to repair with varying degrees of success.

If you are taking young children be "VERY" aware that the childrens paddling pool is alongside the main pool with NO Barriers, and the main pool is at least 1.5m deep along this edge. There are NO lifeguards and only 1 life aid that i saw on the poolside, there is however a nice little sign stating "call at bar in case of emergency"- not very helpfull.

The grounds are well kept and spotlessly clean which was a credit to the gardener who always seemed to be about doing something or the other.

More 3 star than 4 but nice all the same"

  • Top Tip:

"If you are only staying for a week use the local busses to get around they all charge about 3 euros each way and are regular with easy timetables to follow.

The trip to Lindos (don't be daunted by the walk to the acropolis) is worth it for the views and try a meal in a roof top restuarant in Lindos town- wonderfull but not cheap.
Rhodes town is well worth the effort with the wonderfull walled old town and it's mix of different cultures and styles.

I you fancy a nice quite drink and a change from the Hotel , on leaving the reception of the hotel take a left and left again and follow the road for about 800mtrs where you will find a T junction, right takes you to the beach(long walk) and left to the town (strip) but just on the junction is a lovely greek resturant run by a lovely family who will look after you. nice food and good drinks , try the red wine, medium, not dry, lovely 3 euros for 1/2ltr.

If you continue down the road to the left you will come onto the strip which is a bit more lively and drinks can be a lot cheaper although food is a bit hit & miss.

The bus transfer to the beach is worth the effort and queue, the beach sand is sharp and the seabed quite rocky, but the snorkling is great and Sexy Billy's Bar(right on the beach edge)is open 24hrs and serve good cheap food (snacks) and drinks.

Sunbead & umbrella hire is 3.50 euros per person per day.

    Have Fun"

  • "Perfectly decent hotel, ideal for families but a little limited for younger couples or those seeking an active holiday.

Room was clean and very spacious but the a/c was free, but loud and not exactly arctic in its efficiency. Overall not bad for the money!"

  • Valerie from Heanor reviewed the Golden Odyssey Hotel

  • "This was a "typical" Greek Island hotel. The plus points were that it was always clean, the dining room staff were always on their toes, and the location was very good for exploring the whole of Rhodes island. The minus points were that there could have been more choice at meal times( even if i did visit near the end of season), and the vegetables were over cooked."

  • Top Tip:

"Best beach by far is Tsambika beach, just 2km from the hotel. The hotel runs a free bus service to the nearest beaches, however, you can get a local bus to take you to Tsambika. This beach has it all, sand, space, safe bathing, food and watersports too."
