"Lovely hotel even though it is old and due to be knocked down. Food is great as were the staff!"

"great local restaurant down in Funchal called Restaurante Combantentes! Fantastic food and really cheap! Lovely environment just behind park where the taxis wait. We went there 4 times in one week!!!"

"Excellent service and a very pleasant atmosphere in the hotel. Would recommend it - but they have plans to demolish it and build a 6 star hotel, so not sure how much longer it will be there in its present form!
All the staff were courteous, friendly and willing to help. Due to its (possibly) imminent demolition it has not been maintained to quite the high standard one might expect, but what it is growing a little tired in by way of upkeep it makes up for in its classical charm.
All the resources of the new Royal Savoy are available to guests of the 'Classic' and the combined facilities provided an excellent range (5 swimming pools between them!)."
Top Tip:
"A very nice restaurant directly opposite the hotel called 'E pra picanha'. The service was fantastic and the food excellent, but the bill came to no more than other restaurants we visited. We found many of the restaurants quite disappointing in the quality of food and service offered, so this was a welcome exception."
