  • Patricia from Accrington reviewed the Pelin Hotel

  • "We were in Turkey for 4 weeks in October 2009, moving around from place to place to get a real feel for the Turquoise Coast, our first stay was at the Pelin Hotel, and, because we liked the area and the hotel and the staff and the facilities so much, we returned for the latter part of our holiday. We cannot praise the staff enough for their attentive service, helpfulness, information and friendliness. We grew particularly fond of both Asu and Emel on reception, who were always happy to help and always with a smile 24x7. The rooms were kept spotless, towels changed whenever you wanted. and linen changed more regularly than we expected. We were on bed and breakfast for the first week, and the buffet breakfast was excellent, lots of choice, fresh, well cooked and presented. We paid for the evening buffet one night (a reasonable £10 pp) and again, lots of choice, well cooked, and much attention to detail in the presentation and setting out of the buffet area. The dining room waiters were excellent, always pleasant, courteous, friendly and quick to remove plates etc. The chef is so cute! and always out checking and replacing where necessary and tidying up and re-setting. On our return visit we booked half board, and it worked out at £4 pp, what great value it was. The cleaners were unobtrusive, smiling, and they welcomed us back on our second stay with open arms. They made some amazing swans with the towels, and arranged the beds and towels differently every day - such attention to detail. The accountant (manager?) was a lovely man, and all the staff seemed very proud of their hotel and made sure all areas were constantly clean and tidy and welcoming. The pool/pool bar/snacks was superb, and because it was end of season when we were there, we had the pool to ourselves, though we did go the the beach a few times too. The only downside was the hanging space (or lack of it!) and only 1 drawer (small) in the one bedside cabinet. There was plenty of shelf space in the wardbobe and we improvised very well by hanging a few garmets on each hanger and putting the hanger over the top of the inside of the wardrobe door - sorted! The rooms were very spacious and on both visits we had a great and unobstructed view of the pool and bar area. The childrens playground was lovely, and it was a pleasant suprise to see rabbits, hens, ducks and chickens wandering about freely in the play area - such a nice touch for the children. It is a hotel we would bring our young grand daughter to and she would be delighted with the play area and the animals. The pool, whilst being very big, did not have a shallow end, or graduated steps, and was 5 feet deep at the shallow end - being only 5 foot myself, I couldnt stand up! No problem though, it was warm enough and there are step ladders at each end of the pool, and there was also lilo's and buoyancy aids provided. There is an adequate separate children's pool, great for them to splash about in. I had taken a lap top so I could keep in touch with family and book other accommodation, as I had read there was wi-fi at the hotel, it worked, and was great, it might cost you 7tl unlimited use, somehow we didnt pay - result! We will definitely be going back - at the price you pay via Travel Republic, and the facilities, service and staff at the hotel, we wouldnt stay anywhere else in Calis."

  • Top Tip:

"Calis is totally flat and great for walking around, and a walk to the market is a must. If you can manage it, you can walk in to Fetiye, which is worth the walk, and you can get a water taxi or dolmus back. The kerbs are very high on the main road, and could be difficult for the less mobile, although there is a pedestrian crossing near to the hotel. If you are looking for property there is no shortage of estate agents, who are not at all pushy. There is wi-fi in most bars-restaturants, you only have to buy a drink and its free. The beach was good, has plenty of sunbeds/parasols (5tl a day) and slopes gently in to the sea, which was warm, just try to avoid the cigarette ends! The wind tended to get up early afternoon which was a godsend when it was 35d+ (yes, it really was that hot in early October). We tried a lot of restaurants and it is difficult to recommend any outstanding ones as they are all very similar in menu and price. We liked the Italian restaurant attached to the Delta Hotel on the prom, and especially the lunchtime offer for 2 people of a very large pizza (any from the menu) and 2 beers/soft drinks for 7tl each (£3). We found Anna's to be the cheapest for drinks and the food was good too (walk up the promenade to where the water taxi's are, and its about 4 restaurants along on the promenade or opposite the water taxi's. Try the Merhaba (Hello!) restaurant on the prom if you want an English owned establishment, the owner is a really nice guy, and if you want information on living in Calis/Turkey, have a chat with him. We hired a car from Ege (on the main shopping street up from the taxi rank) they were very helpful, and you can also pick up the free local expat newspaper 'Land of Lights' there too - definitely worth a read, or, you can get it on line and register via email so you never miss a copy. English is spoken everywhere, though we would recommend you get a phrase book (cheaper on amazon.com than anywhere else) and at least learn the basics, it is very welcomed and well received, especially in rural areas/small villages. We would recommend a trip to Kalkan and Kas - totally different from Calis (we stayed in Kalkan as part of our trip) and do take one of the full day boat trips (we booked ours through Hamis McTurk (yes, that was his name), it is a lovely day out. The Turkish people as a whole are exceedingly frendly, helpful, kind, sincere, and courteous. As the English are generally reserved, do not take them as 'wanting something' - they dont want anything - they really are genuine, so embrace Turkey, the people, the customs and everything it has to offer with open arms and enjoy your time there. The only unwelcomed experience we had was with a very insistent jeweller who was very rude because we did not buy anything (in Icmeler). As well as booking the hotel through Travel Republic, we booked transfers from-to the airport, we were met-picked up at the times stated, and were very pleased with the transport provided, the cost was also very competitive."

  • Rosalyn from Hawkwell reviewed the Pelin Hotel

  • "I cant really think of anything awful to say about the hotel. We paid a very good price for our holiday with Travel Republic so we cant complain. Even so, the hotel was clean and modern (we were in the newer part). The swimming pool was also clean and it had a nice pool bar. The people on reception were efficient and helpful. The only bad thing was that you had to cross a busy dual carriageway to get to the beach, bars and restaurants, but we did know about that before we came by reading the reviews. To be fair, the road was at its busiest in the evenings and there was a crossing. The beach is lovely and there were lots of restaurants along the beach to choose from. We had excellent weather in October."

  • Top Tip:

"Get down to breakfast by 09.30 at the latest to ensure you get a good selection of food. Plus breakfast finishes at 10.00 sharp. The water taxi to Fethiye was a lovely way to get there and was very reasonable. The restaurant we liked I think was call the Orient or Oriental, although it was not chinese. We got the local dolmus bus from Fethiye to the Blue Lagoon beach and the beach was lovely with nice shops and restaurants to look around."

  • "staff were very friendly and efficient.
Hotel was clean and food was great.
bed was far too firm and uncomfortable.
some drinks were a little on the pricey side.
There was alot of noise from a music venue accross the road. Though not everyday, it was disturbing."
