"The Barcelo Edinburgh Carlton Hotel was like staying in Fawlty Towers!. We arrived at the Hotel about 1030am, booked in and left our luggage with the concierge. We then visited the cloackroom on the 1st Floor only to find one cubicle out of use and two without toilet paper. On arriving back at the hotel around 3.15pm in order to change and get ready for taxies to take us to Murrayfield at 3.45pm, none of our rooms were ready and we did not gain entry until about 5 minutes before the taxies were due. One room had no cold water, so that couple had to be found another room. At least one twin bedded room had only one shower gel, one tiny biscuit and two small sachets of milk, just about enough for one person. Added to this the window was jammed open and would not close, making the room very noisy with night revellers in the street below and early morning street activity. Added to this is was a very windy night and there was considerable noise from the howling wind. There appeared to be only one waiter serving during the evening in the lounge bar, meaning a long wait for drinks. At breakfast we were served with tea and coffee pots without lids, apparently some had been broken and there were no spares. When some of the party went to the servery to get their cooked breakfast, some dishes were empty and were not being replenished, having run out. Before leaving the hotel to go to the airport we visited the cloakroom on the first floor again, only two find two cubicles now out of use. There was also a distinct lack of staff in the Reception area, restaurant at breakfast and in the lounge bar. Not what one would expect from a 4 star hotel.
However ion the plus side the beds were comfortable and the rooms clean. The hotel is well situated for the centre of Edinburgh for sightseeing."
"what a smashing hotel ,i can always find a little to niggle about wherever i stay, but im struggling with the jury,s inn in edinburgh.its ideally situated if you arrive by train ( 2 min walk), the rooms are spotless, well equipped, cleaned thoroughly. the food just cant be faulted, the breakfast choice is incredible and and theres a wide variety on offer at lunch and dinnertime too.the staff too are a credit, always there to offer assistance and to ask if your happy with the service offered and supplied.we will definately return here because now we know what to expect. its just totally ideal!."
