"An excellent location for central Funchal. We stayed B & B and ate out in local restaurants, cafes, or even snack bars. We walked levadas and no bus was more than 5 mins from the Hotel. The hotel breakfast was not brilliant but it was plentifull and while the orange juice was poor the fresh local oranges (and bananas) were brilliant. Snack bar Suzy just around the corner had cheap beer and a drink with the locals was good. After one strenuous day we came back late and rather than shower and change we dived into Suzies and the barman even fixed us up with a meal."
Top Tip:
"There is little vegetarian food available but Cafe do Museu in the city centre had a good selection and plenty of fish, steaks etc as well.
Book a dolphin watch in the marina shopping mall. We were surrounded by sperm whales, blowing and tail flapping and then they took us to swim with dolphins. I stayed in the boat but it was still AWESOME"

"The evening meal was beyond basic. Repetitive set meal consisting of Soup, Fish or Meat Main course, Creme Caramel or Tinned Fruit for desert (ice cream if you wanted it). The waiter described a Meat Scewer 'main course' as "Cow on Stick". This summed it up really - Portuguese Fawlty Towers. A la carte advertised but not available. Noisy street below facing car park. Would not recommend for Half Board. You get what you pay for."
Top Tip:
"Much better food availalble 100 yards down the street at the "Sa" Supermarket cafe/restaurant open until 10pm at night.
Get the Aerobus from the airport to Funchal. Get timetable from Airport Information desk on arrival as it only runs every 2 hours but at 5 Euros per person each way is much better value than a 35 Euro taxi each way."
