"It was our first night in Madeira and it didn't seem very welcoming. The room and swimming pool were cold, the staff didn't seem friendly and the evening meal was a buffet with the hot food not kept warm enough. The village seemed rather run down compared with other areas we visited."
Top Tip:
"We got a taxi to Sitio das Quatro Estradas and walked along the levada to Santo do Serra - very pleasant, using the excellent book Landscapes of Madeira by John and Pat Underwood for walk details and maps."

"the staff were helpful and friendly, the hotel was clean, the swimming pool and area were like new,nothing special about the food but there was enough choice,
our room was nice but half of the bathroom needed attention eg cracked mirror cracked floor tiles and black damp patches around the bath. i can only assume that they are working thier way around all rooms because other unnocupied rooms we looked in the bathrooms were lovely. overall though satisfactory. in the lounge area the sofas and chairs were very comfortable. we sat there most nights after dinner to do our crossword!!!! yes there is no stopping us when we get going!!!!! travel republic were brilliant everything went to plan like clockwork thankyou."
Top Tip:
"down the road from the hotel there was a cafe where the staff spoke english and was very good value eg. 2 ham rolls (fresh and crusty) 2 rather large fresh cakes
a lemonade and a large coffee cost about 5 euros!!!. so you know which cafe it was, inside the building consisted of the cafe, a shop, a hairdresser and bar with snooker table."
