"I thought the canaima apartments were average.I have been to puerto rico seven times since 1995 and would go back again and again.The apartments were half way up the mountains,so you are best to walk down which takes 10 minutes,then grab a taxi back up which only cost about 3 euro's.If you want the sun in the morning then these are the apartments to have.If you like the sun in the afternoon then you are best staying the other side of the mountain,try the carlota or casablanca apts,both which I have stayed.The towels are changed every few days so you have no worries with this one,also the water was hot any time of the day.The little bar up on the top of the apts served good meals,and the staff were freindly.you will find there are quite a few cats about but they wont bother you if you dont feed them."
Top Tip:
"When you go down to the commercial centre there are lots of restaurants on the first level,however my favourite is the san miguel which is on ground level,plenty of choice and at a reasonable price.Down at the beach you you can catch a ferry to nearby puerto de mogan which is a lovely little place,if you go on a friday they have a market in the morning.Its 10 euro's per person return,and takes about 20 minutes each way."Canaima Apartments check-in Date:

"2nd time in Puerto Rico, Gran Canaria. The apartment was quite basic but all you need really for a self catering holiday with 2 hob rings, various cooking equipment and a decent size fridge with a bath and shower and a nice balcony where you can see the ocean and the whole town. Decent size swimming pool and plenty of sun loungers. Hardly any entertainment in the evening, there was one barbecue on the saturday (which I missed) but plenty of entertainment and a huge range of bars/restaurants about a 10 minute walk away (220 steps down to the town centre - will keep you fit). I would choose Montebello in Puerto Rico over this place. But glorious weather, a few more clouds and a little cooler than in July (this time it was 26-30C as opposed to 32-36C)"
Top Tip:
"The walkway to Amadores beach offers glorious view of the sunset into the sea in the evening. Maspolomas beach (a 25 minute bus ride away) is a beautiful several mile long stretch of sandy beach so you can hike over the dunes (or fully even out your tan!). The centre of the island is beautiful with forests and mountains (but very cold - take a jumper!) - Roque Nublo offers nice views and is a challenging and rewarding 25 minute walk from the roadside."Canaima Apartments check-in Date:

"Good basic accommodation but ask for a room at the front of the complex because at the back you can hear the music from the disco and it goes on very late."

"we found these apartments lacking in cleanliness, we only had 1 change of bedding during our 2 weeks stay,and when the cleaners did come in they never did a very good job. we have been going to puerto rico now for 10 years and these apartments have been the worst we have stayed at.needless to say we will not be staying there again. having said that puerto rico is a fantastic holiday resort."
