  • Teresa from Derbyshire reviewed the Barcarola Club Apartments

  • "This was our third stay. At the quiet end of the Avenue but still within walking distance of the bars and restaurants. Maid service every day and always cleaning the paths around the apartments and pool."

  • Top Tip:

"Small beach over the road and another nice beach just a little further up behind the hotels. Do not miss going to the Old Town for a meal."

  • Nick from Birmingham reviewed the Barcarola Club Apartments

  • "Highly recommend this place.

Apartments are spacious and very clean. Pool was lovely with plenty of sunbeds. All in all it exceeded our expectations.

The apartment complex is situated at the top of the main strip of puerto del carmen - and has plenty of bars and restaurants in the immediate vicinity.

There are a couple of small, fairly quiet beaches just across the road - and ten or fifteen minutes walk down the road you will find the main 'tourist' beaches and the more lively bars and clubs."

  • Top Tip:

"Didn't have a bad meal in any of the restaurants during our stay - but there is a very good one called Attica (or something like that) just outside the complex entrance. Also a Tex-Mex place a bit further down the strip was nice.

Worth doing the "South Tour" round the volcanos - about 30-40 euros per person - but worth it for an interesting day out. You will find leaflets etc... in the apartment complex reception."

  • Rachel from Fleet reviewed the Barcarola Club Apartments

  • "The apartments were nice and clean and the staff were very friendly. The grounds were pretty however the pool could do with a makeover as the bottom is beginning to wear away. We didn't use the on site restaurant facilities, however these were popular and looked nice."

  • Top Tip:

"Puerto Del Carmen is a mix of arcades, typical sea front shops and restaurants - it reminded us a bit of Blackpool at times! There are good points and bad, but there is plenty to amuse families. The secluded beaches are the best although you have a steep walk to most as they drop down much further than the road. The town itself is very commercialised and everyone speaks English. There are loads of English and Irish bars, however if you look hard enough you will find some nice Spanish places.

When you book for Puerto Del Carmen, don’t book transfers as it is cheaper to get a taxi. It is around 13 euros to get from the airport to the middle of town and it only takes about 20 minutes.

One of the best bars we visited was Cafe la Ola, it is fabulous! It is along the main street in Puerto Del Carmen and overlooks the beach and has a pool and sunloungers. There are chill out areas, Buddha’s galore and even a masseuse! The paella and sangria for 7 euros is definitely worth having!! The marina is lovely too, especially at night. The restaurants have a nice selection of food and are not expensive unless you are buying coca cola! We paid 4.50 euros for a large coke which was more expensive than the beer! There are lots of excursions on the boats from the marina, but don’t do the glass bottomed boat 'sub cat' - we saw hardly anything and spent most of the trip on the top deck!

Hire a car to explore the island. There is so much to do on Lanzarote! The Papagayo beaches are amazing! It involves driving down a dirt road to get to it and means paying 3 euros at a toll point as it is part of a national park - but it is well worth it!! El Golfo is lovely and the fish restaurants along the beach just down from there are beautiful - the food was superb although the restaurants can be pricey.

Be careful when driving around the island, some of the roads have no barriers, especially when driving up the mountains which can be quite nerve racking!! The aquarium in Costa Teguise is disappointing - it took about 20 mins to walk around and didn’t have as much as it made out. If you blink you will miss it as it is hidden away behind a bar!

The market in Teguise is well worth doing and buses run there all day from Puerto Del Carmen. Whilst there we had the largest German sausage - it was huge! Just beside the main square is a small Tapas bar/restaurant which does the most amazing food! They have a few tables outside so you can watch the world go by, but get there quickly as the seats and tables will be gone!! We liked it so much we went back when we hired a car - stunning food and at a very reasonable price.

Cesar Manrique's sculptures are everywhere on Lanzarote and his house is lovely - there are many parts of the island that could be used for a James Bond set and his house is definately one of them! The Jameos del Agua was nice but very commercialised with bars at every opportunity along the walk through and the auditorium was closed for renovation when we went - they still wanted the full ticket price though! The cactus garden is stunning and the views from the windmill within are lovely. Timanfaya National Park is amazing but if you want to do the tours around the volcanoes make sure you get there early! When we were leaving at 11am the queues went on for miles! Also if you want to do all of the typical touristy things, you can buy a pass which means you pay about 35 euros and get entry to everything – well worth doing!

When going to Lanzarote remember your mosquito repellent! We forgot ours and were eaten alive for the first night! There was no breeze in the evenings while we were there in September; however we hired a fan from reception which helped a bit.

Overall it was a great holiday and we had plenty to do, well worth a visit."

  • Colin from Crawley reviewed the Barcarola Club Apartments

  • "Apartments were very good. Very pleased with the 2 bedroom apartment. Quiet but still on the doorstep to plenty of Restuarants and the beach. Apartments entertainment was subdued although the one man band doing the activities was very good with what he had to offer. Don't bother with Half board because you are better to be able to go out and sample tons of other eating places. All in all 4 stars out of 5."

  • Top Tip:

"Restuarant: The Place. on the beach side, not the commercial side of the road. Avoid the Lanis restuarants (although this may be difficult! because there are so many of them), especially the Indian which was poor value."
