Built in 1848, the elegant and luxurious hotel is the ideal place for both holidaymakers and business travellers and ably combines tradition with modern facilities. A modern extension has been built, which ideally complements the Georgian architecture of the terrace building. Guests may treat themselves to international, British, and Scottish delicacies prepared by the famous head chef in the Melrose restaurant. On offer in the hotel are a total of 197 rooms, and facilities include a lobby area with a reception desk manned around the clock, a safe for depositing valuables, and a cloakroom. Guests may also, among others, take advantage of the Melrose lounge and atrium, the Consort bar, the pre-function bar, the room and laundry services, the Internet connection, and the George Suite for conferences and other events.
The heart of Edinburgh, Charlotte Square, was designed by the famous Georgian architect Robert Adam. The hotel is also one of his designs.

"The hotel is very central and it is lovely, service was great. Room was a bit small but fine for our needs"

"Hotel location perfect base for all attractions, excellent service from all staff, always a smile and positive attitude whatever the request at any time of the day."

"very disappointed, arrived at the hotel to be informed it was cancelled they said that they informed you but nobody informed me. it was a special 40th birthday weekend a was fed up that i had this problem when i arrived the manager said that there was no rooms available sat around reception for 2hrs until they found us a room. not impressed at all."

"We had a lovely time, the hotel was above satisfactory although a little over priced. situation in regards to the attractions was second to none. would defiantely recommend it!"

"I was really pleased with the hotel, in a fantastic location. hopped off the airport bus at the west end stop in shandwick place and was checking in (about 3 hours before I really should have!!) about 5 min walk later. Super views of Charlotte Square. Rooms were good size and had everything you needed, breakfast was fine not the best variety I have ever seen but fresh and could be cooked to order. The Spa was fantastic but the restaurant limited in variety (but again very nice). The hotel had plenty of shops and bars etc around it and the views of the castle from the end of the street were amazing. It is literally a 2 min walk to princess street and george street is on the other side of the hotel."
