  • Patricia from Cheadle reviewed the Islane Hotel

  • "I was pleased that the location was so good when I booked this hotel. However, I was very disappointed with the room. It was very dark and run down. The bedding was clean but the paintwork and furnishings were very minimal and needed replacing. The bathroom was awful. The hotel has a major problem with water pressure and the water goes on and off, and from hot to cold, sometimes stopping altogether in the middle of a shower. The breakfast was minimal - no fruit and the coffee was not good. The gentleman on reception when we arrived was very polite, but the man on reception later in the evening was quite rude. I would not opt to stay here again. I think the hotel needs to do some major refurnishings and updating."

  • Top Tip:

"The location is perfect opposite the Koutoubie Mosque and very close to the Jemaa el Fna square. However, taxis are frequent and cheap, so I would opt not to stay in the hotel again, as it is substandard."

  • ian from London reviewed the Islane Hotel

  • "This hotel advertised private parking which was the reason we chose it. However on arrival, there was no parking. (It's not that the car park was full, there just wasnt one.) The hotel staff knew this was the case, were completely unapolgetic and unhelpful and we ended up having to pay to park our (expensive) car in a public car park."

  • Top Tip:

    "Dont expect parking."

  • Ian from East Molesey reviewed the Islane Hotel

  • "Hotel is excellently situated, opposite the Koutoubia Mosque, and only a couple of minutes walk from Jemma el F'Naa. Our room was fine. The view from the terrace where breakfast is served is great. If you want a good location close to the Old City, this is it. Rooms fairly basic, but good for the price. We were well looked after. However, we returned a few days later for 1 night, and treatment not so good. We were given a dim, small room, not en suite, for a considerably higher price than our better internet booked room. No way! We asked to change, and were given a similar room to our previous one. Had to sort out a few things - lights, getting air conditioning to work, etc, which was not greeted with much enthusiasm, but got done.
So, a decent value for money hotel, excellently located."

  • Top Tip:

"Don't get brow beaten by snake charmers etc in the Jemma erl F'Naa into paying lots of money for photos. Give them a fraction of what they ask, and move off fast! Restaurants around the square actually all much the same, so the cheaper ones come out best value. Restaurant Toubkhal and the one next door both excellent value for money."

  • "hotel was clean but very basic the location is very close to jemma el fna square. If we go to marrakech again we would stay in a hotel outside the medina because one vist to the square and souks is enough. It is easy to get there so the location of the hotel is not that important."

  • Top Tip:

"majorelle gardens are well worth a visit, and try the dar es salam restaurant on rue riad for the fantastic interior and good food but quite expensive."

  • R from SOUTH CROYDEN reviewed the Islane Hotel

  • "I'd seen a real mix of reviews for this hotel, but decided to be optimistic and trust the positive ones, and wasn't disappointed! It is fantastic value for money, and if you want to be really central and only need a basic ensuite, then you should be fine. The only downside is that it's very noisy, right next to two busy roads, and it was really cold at night. If it's luxury and peace and quiet you're after then this wouldn't be for you. However, breakfast on the terrace with a great view of el Koutoubia and the closeness to the Square was a real plus for us, and we felt it was a real bargain."

  • John from Leigh on Sea reviewed the Islane Hotel

  • "The bedrooms at the Hotel Islane are fairly basic, but everything else totally compensates for this. Its location right in the heart of the city and facing El Koutoubia is just fantastic and makes everything worth seeing in Marrakech just so easily available - either on foot or by local bus. And the terrace on which breakfast is served has what just has to be one of the finest views in the town, especially when the High Atlas mountains make a backdrop to the Mosque.
This was our third visit to the Islane, and hopefully we will go again!"

  • H from bloomsbury reviewed the Islane Hotel

  • "We arrive there only to find the hotel do not have our booking. They tried to move us for two days to another hotel further away to a 2 star. They kept us for 4 hours in the heat in reception, when we have arrived without any breakfast arguing with them. Had a small child who was scared of all the arguing etc.

Sheer exhaustion made us give in to one night sharing with all 4 of us in one room. They did not give us any compensation.

At last they agree to give us free lunch only to argue with waiters who did not know anything about it and embrassed us in front of others even though the manager promised meal was free. It was not worth the hassel.

The chairs scrapped alot on the top floor as the resturant was on the floor above us.

The air conditioner remote was with reception so everytime we want to adjust it we had to call reception!! Not impressed with it.

My eyebrow plucker got stolen. The floor was not sweeped throughly...
Other than that it was fine. Actually toward the end I just ignored all the problem otherwise the holiday would have been ruined...and somehow we got on with the staff at the end.... So I left some tips for the reception."

  • Top Tip:

"Love the Koutabia mosque being in front of us, a bit nosey at the front of the hotel."

  • S from London reviewed the Islane Hotel

  • "The Islane hotel for a 3 * hotel was excellent. The rooms were very nice with dim lightig, perfect for a couple..i went with a mate so nothing like that !! the shower was on the small side, but did have a power shower so made up for it. The rooms were air conditioned and also had a remote control so it could be controlled to your specific temp. the room had a balcony and you can hear all the hustle and bustle of Marrakech, but once the doors are sht you cant hear a thing. The hotel was well located in the city centre and within mins of walk to the famous Jem El Fna square, which truely comes alive at night...it was totally awesome. We stayed B&B and the breakfast were average serving your usual continental breakfast. The hotel is situated just outside the Koutoubia Mosque a truely amazing building.
We went in August and only paid £30 each for 2 nights, this was a total bargain. Overall the hotel was very good value for money. The hotel staff were very friendly and the hotel was lovely inside. One downfall if you dont like walking up steps is it didnt have a lift but otherwise excellent. A definate 10/10"

  • Top Tip:

"There is a beautiful garden just right out of the hotel, this is very tranquil and helps you to relax and get away from the hustle anf bustle of Marrakesh nd its free to get in. Also many nearby shops to purchase water very cheap...Do not buy from hotel..too expensive"

  • Fazal from Oldham reviewed the Islane Hotel

  • "I had a great time, the weather was good with excellent food, one down side was someone stole my camera and we lost holiday pictures.El Fena square was excellent but I would encourage visitors to check the prices on the menue at the square food stalls as the waiters inflate prices and even charge for bread that is normally included with dishes, but even then it is still reasonable compared with resturant prices."

  • Top Tip:

"The Mosque across the road from the hotel is an interesting building and the gardens in the vicinity of the hotel are well worth exploring.
The staff at the hotel are helpful and full of information, the room is ok for the price and good for people on a tight budget. They have improved the showers."

  • "Shower produced a cool trickle mostly. But the room was clean, the staff friendly and the breakfast fine. The view from the breakfast veranda was great too. What do you want for the money?"

  • Top Tip:

"Don't take any money with you the first time you go to Djema el Fnaa, then you can't get conned. The next time you go and you pay over the top for something, reflect on how much money you have, how much the people who "tricked" you have and feel good that you just helped out a poor family. It's a little for you and a lot for them."
