"I wanted a relaxing few days away in a non highly commercial place. Port Colom was fantastic. The hotel was a good quality, lovely harbour view, very helpful staff, choice of two pools, one ideal for children, the other very good for adults wanting to snooze or read a book in peace!"

"Very comfortable, clean hotel, with good friendly service. Restaurant is buffet style but a good choice with quality and quantity. Good place to stay if you want peace & quiet as not much to do in the area if you want nightlife...we didn`t. Hotel put on some entertainment which was average but we were not expecting any. Hiring a car is probably a good idea to see surrounding area and resorts. would definately return."

"lovely clean hotel not much at porto colom not a lot of restaurants to choose from if your not full board. If quiet is what you want then this is the place for you. We were pleased we had a car as we went out for a few days. but there is a regular bus service."

"We wanted a quiet place to relax and Porto Colom was exactly that. Booked half board and the hotel food was delicious so we didn't need to find restaurants for any of the evening meals.
Dinner was in two sittings and we were booked on the earlier one at 18.30 - 19.30. At first thought this was a bad idea, but it gave us a chance to walk round the harbour (which looked more like a lake) in the evenings in daylight.
The towel swop system (via Reception) was brilliant and they provided a map to the beach which was only about 10 minutes easy walk away."

"This is one of the best hotels my husband and I have stayed in. The reception staff were welcoming, the junior suite was perfect for the two of us with a wonderful view of the harbour and beyond. The whole hotel was spotlessly clean and unobtrusively maintained. The restaurant and food were very good with a great variety, I would recommend half board. The bar was well kept and well stocked and the bar staff were friendly and amusing. The 2 pools were again well kept and their surroundings very clean, being able to hire pool towels free of charge ( 10€ returnable deposit) is a bonus. There is a mix of German/French/British guests but no problem with sun loungers by the pool. You did have to laugh at the German couple who not only reserved their sunbeds at sunrise but tied pool chairs to the sunbeds with their towels!
I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel but I would like to keep it my secret!

"THIS IS ONE OF THE CLEANEST HOTEL WE HAVE STAYED IN. I'TS UNUSAL THAT THE TWO SWIMIMNG POOLS ARE IN DIFFERENT AERAS ACROSS TWO ROADS AS IS THE RESTAURNT. THE ONLY DOWNSIDE TO THIS HOTEL IS THAT THEY HAVE TWO SITTINGS FOR DINNER THE SECONDE ONE @ 8.00PM. FOR DINNER YOU ARE GIVING A TABLE WHICH YOU HAVE TO USE ALL WEEK."

"The room for a four star hotel was a little small and some receptionists were more friendly than others but overall the hotel offered good value for money. We particularly enjoyed the breakfasts outside overlooking the harbour and we appreciated the use of a room where we could shower and change in privacy before a late flight home."

"I feel I should add this comment to my recent review regarding the Ola El Vistamar Hotel in Porto Colom.

If anyone is going half board please note that if you depart from the hotel before the normal breakfast time i.e. 8.30am, I would advise you to provide your own food! The hotel informed us that 'breakfast' would be provided in the bar on the morning of our departure as our transfer coach time was leaving at 6.30 am. This 'Breakfast' consisted of coffee or VERY WEAK tea and some icing sugar covered croissants - Nothing else! No butter, no jam, no fruit. When I spoke to the porter on duty, he was very rude and unhelpful. I have been holidaying abroad for over 30 years and have never experienced such poor hospitality. It was not a good ending to our holiday and I doubt we would return."

"Our week at the El Vistamar couldn't have been better. We wanted a relaxing holiday in the sun and that's exactly what we got. Our room was comfortable and clean, and staff were very friendly and helpful. We spent most days by one of the pools, but hired a car, which meant that we could spend a couple of days exploring the island. The area around the hotel has a choice of restaurants - not that you need them, as the hotel food is excellent - and as you walk towards the nearest beach there are further places to eat and drink. We were amazed at the choice of food on offer for breakfast and dinner at the hotel, and eating breakfast al fresco towards the end of the week was lovely. We couldn't decide on our evening meal most nights, and ended up having a bit of everything!

Overall, I would say that if you want a holiday with a buzzing nightlife then another resort might be a better choice, but if you are after relaxation, good food, friendly service and a few good quality places nearby for a drink, the El Vistamar would be a perfect choice."

"The Ola El Vistamar was an excellent choice for us (2 adults 40s/50s) quiet location, good room standard (we booked a junior suite but upgraded on arrival to a full suite). Very helpul reception staff. Entertainment programme variable but never terrible. Food excellent with a wide choice and plenty of it even close to finishing time. Would certainly consider returning in the future."

"The hotel was excellent! The staff, from Reception to Maids were really helpful friendly and warm.
The hotel was spotless, the rooms airy, cleanand well appointed. We noted the lack of cigarette smoke in the hotel. Whether smoking is banned I cant remember seeing any signs but it was welcome for us.
The food and service in the restuarant at breakfast and dinner was brilliant! The meals were varied and good quality. Many guests went out of their way to congratulate the chef.
The pools and other facilities were another plus point, being well cared for and inviting.
The entertainment we went to on a couple of nights was also top quality.
So top marks for the hotel and Travel Republic for a great holiday experience!"

"The hotel was more than we were expecting and provided very good value for money. The staff were very pleasant, the food was very good and the room was fine. We avoided the hotel entertainment, preferring to do our own thing. Porto Colom was a large natural habour with a local population as well as hotels and apartments and would be a good choice if you wanted a more low key coastal destination."

"The hotel pools and reception staff were good. We were disappointed with our room due to its size and its style was similar to a UK travelodge (not exactly 4 star). We were two adults and a 15 year old in a small room, however, we noticed that there were one bedroomed rooms, so could request that if we revisited. Rooms were clean and serviced well. The entertainment was pretty poor, although the young children there seemed to enjoy it. Also, hotel bar lacked atmosphere. Hotel's location was lovely, with great views over the port at breakfast. Service was good. Not a place to go if you like late nights or discos. We would recommend the hotel and would return to it."

"On my limited time of just three nights at the Vistamar I found the service to be very good and the staff all very helpful and polite. The meal times and quality of food choice was also of a high standard , with again helpful and very polite staff.
I would definately recommend this Hotel. Just one small problem is car parking which can only be done in the streets surrounding this Hotel, which can get quite full at times."

"disappointed. We booked and paid extra for a suite with a sea view - the room tiny with a very small balcony looking inwards to other rooms - no sea view.
