  • SANDRA from WINCHESTER reviewed the Pirat Hotel

  • "Although our room was a litte tired the hotel was in a fabulous location and the staff were really friendly and helpful. It was very clean, and the pools were lovely with great sunbeds and refreshments. With such a great view we would stay here again. We absolutely loved Kalkan and the local people, we will definitely come back again."

  • Top Tip:

"We ate at the Havana Terrace restaurant on the first night and made friends with Ahmed, the owner and Eyrtan, who took us out sightseeing for a whole day in return for a meal out. Their generosity and hospitality made our holiday. Get a taxi to quiet Kapatas beach, and try the local pancakes made on the beach!"

  • T from Maidstone reviewed the Pirat Hotel

  • "The Pirat hotel is located on both sides of the road adjacant to the Harbour. We stayed in the 'newer' part, on the opposite side of the road to reception, which is spread over several different buildings on different levels over a fairly large area. There are no lifts, which means that if your room is on the upper levels, which ours was, you have upwards of eighty steps to get to your room. So it's not suitable for guests with a mobility problem. Our room on the fourth level, had a nice view over the harbour, with the sun on the balcony until early evening, which was pleasant. However it also overlooked the harbour road, which meant that late night, early morning revellers could be a problem.

Breakfast was on a buffet style, with a delightful sit down area overlooking the harbour, on the first level. The range of food was reasonable and plentiful, but somewhat lacking in variety. Hotel staff first class in all respects.

All in all good value for money, with some good rates at the time of the year we went, which was late September."

  • Top Tip:

"The Captan restaurant at the far end of town and up one level from the beach, was a little gem. Lovely food, nice choice and reasonably priced, run by a couple, husband Turkish, wife English."

  • Doris from Shepton Mallet reviewed the Pirat Hotel

  • "Accommodation was fine. Food was reasonable (although breakfast was dissappopinting). Drinks cost approximately the same as in UK. Bar facilities and pool were first rate."

  • Top Tip:

"Be prepared for a long transfer from Dalaman. A2B transfers take two stages. Coach to Fethiye and then local taxi to the hotel. Transfer in total took about 2.5 hours.

Kaptan's Restaurant was a short (5 mins) walk away and the local cuisine superb! The quality was all you could ask for and the service friendly and first rate. You may need to book in high season."

  • A from MIDDLESEX reviewed the Pirat Hotel

  • "The hotel was friendly and very conveniently located overlooking the marina. We asked for a pool or sea view and got the sea view with a balcony and this was in the block across from the hotel. All these rooms are twins (that cant be moved together). We did get offered a double in the hotel, but no sea view without paying extra. We were on a bit of a budget so stuck with the twin. You can pay more when there to upgrade. The pool was excellent and the pool bar/food ok for snacks. We had the buffet once in the evening - for 20tl per person which was excellent choice and value. Breakfast was excellent and all the usual Med fare you would expect. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful - a great place to stay"

  • Top Tip:

"Boat trip around the bay good value at 35tl per person includes lunch. We went on the Romantique. Free boat to another beach if you want. The beach in Kalkan manmade, but ok. So many excellent restaurants in Kalkan dont think you'd have a bad meal. As ever keep away from the main drag and find the restaurants tucked away. Korsan have at least 3 resturants - all excellent. For a cheap feed, but still great value the kebap house near the beach was great. We were there 3rd week sept so perfectly quiet for us, probably much busier in season. Plenty of shops with usual tat. Enough there for a week. Two weeks you might get a bit bored"

  • Craig from Sutton reviewed the Pirat Hotel

  • "The staff were very friendly & helpful, the food was varied, well prepared & presented. The location was good - near to lots of restaurants and bars. A short walk from the beach. The hotel was clean and well managed & whilst the rooms were pretty bog standard I think this is a great value resort."

  • Top Tip:

"I thoroughly recommend the jeep excursion to Saklikent Gorge - a really good day out and great value (we booked via ADDA Tours).

The transfer (A2B Transfers) was a bit of a nightmare on the way to Kalkan, but fine on the return journey. After a late night flight we arrived at Dalaman at around 3 in the morning, had to wait 30 minutes for the A2B coach to arrive, then another hour on the coach waiting for more passengers. The driver made many stops en route (seemingly to deliver us to gift shops) despite everyone just wanting to get to the resort. I strongly advise stocking up on food and water (although not from the airport - £5 for two small bottles of water!) before setting off for Kalkan and be prepared for a long journey. We arrived at around 8.30 am exhausted.

Final tip - get your Visa (from the Visa desk) at Dalaman airport before queuing to show your passport!"

  • James P from Newport reviewed the Pirat Hotel

  • "We stayed in the old part of the Pirat. The room was clean, quiet and looked as if it had been recently decorated.
The transfers from Dalaman to Kalkan were arranged by Travel Republic, were excellent value and very punctual.
One tip is don't buy food at Dalaman airport - £4 for a can of Coke - £22 for two sandwiches and two drinks. It has got to be one of the most expensive airports in the world."

  • Top Tip:

"There are many excellent restaurants in Kalkan. Our favourite is Zeki's behind the Mosque. Our favourite beach club is the Mahal which provides a free boat service from the far end of the harbour. Aubergine on the front has a nice bar. In fact we believe that Kalkan is truly a holiday paradise and we will be going again next year for the fourth time."

  • Michael from Kinross reviewed the Pirat Hotel

  • "Kalkan is a beautiful, picturesque resort with over 200 (we were told) restaurants many with rooftop terraces. We visited quite a few and were never disappointed with the food. One slight word of warning - the town is built on the hillside and there are many steps and steep roads and paths so it is not ideal for people with mobility issues.

We stayed in Hotel Pirat which is probably the best located of any hotel in Kalkan, close to the harbour and the older part of town. The hotel was spotlessly clean and our rooms, which had a small balcony, air-con and minibar, were serviced daily. Dont miss trying the savoury pancakes which are available freshly made beside the pool...

All the staff we found to be very friendly and helpful."

  • Top Tip:

"We found there was loads to do - one of the highlights was a boat trip which left from the harbour at 10.15 and returned 18.30. An incredibly relaxing day with freshly cooked lunch and barbeque on board (fish caught en-route), and tea and melon late afternoon. The boat was call "Zeus" and the owner basically goes at the customers pace. There was snorkelling gear on board for use by the party. It is very personalised experience as numbers are restricted to a maximum of only 8 people. Also very good value at 35YTL."

  • j from chorley wood reviewed the Pirat Hotel

  • "we had 3 rooms - they were all small and not really suitable for 2 adults - 2 were average with fridge/mini bar and tv but third room looked and felt like it was not one of the main rooms - it had no tv or minibar and the aircon smelt - it need a service. This was probably because the hotel was busy. The hotel is split over the road which is not necessarily a problem but one side has no lift and very steep stairs - not suitable for elderly people or even very small. However hotel is in centre of town so good for bars and restaurants."

  • R from NORTHAMPTON reviewed the Pirat Hotel

  • "Lovely hotel, rooms made up every day and air con was nice and cold. Staff really freindly and helpfull.
It is suitable for families and the 2 pools are nice but very small and get a little bit hectic if you get kids diving or "bombing" as the sunbeds are close to the pools. Hotel was fully booked when we were there and all sunbeds were full with towels by 9am. with no people on them!!! Bit annoying!!
Resort is lovely, peacefull but very hilly for old people or babies in buggies but still worth the trip as the narrow streets, bars and resturaunts are well worth the hard walk up the hills.
We went half board, food was nice, ample if not a little repetative.
We will probably return another year as it was nice and relaxing."

  • "The staff who worked at the hotel were very friendly and made us feel welcomed. Nothing was too much trouble for them.
The breakfast was lovely, lots of bread, cheeses, olives and cereals.
It cost us £7 a night to upgrade to a seaview which was worth the extra money.

The Turkish night in the hotel was great fun and kids would enjoy it."

  • Top Tip:

"There are loads of restaurants to choose from but we liked the Kebab House, Doy Doy, Foto and Sofra. Also advise getting a bus to Patara Beach for the day (about 10 lira return), it is the nicest, cleanest beach I've ever been on."
