"Although there was nothing to do at the hotel, it made a good base. The rooms were cleaned everyday, breakfast worth getting up for, had the pool to ourselves when we went for a swim. Only about 6 sunbeds functional, but so close to beach, not a problem."
Top Tip:
"Best restaurant was Chez Petize, wonderful Italian food. Very small, so good idea to book the night before. For a quick bite on the beach, the first van past the pier( on the right), bacon & cheese roll & small beer, great price and lovely people."

"There was nothing mentioned when i booked about the nightclub outside my balcony which went on until 430am nor the building site at the back nor the muddy waste ground out the front!"

"Yeah a building site!
I wont be going back to cape verde and i will be advising others to give it a miss.

"A pleasant, well run hotel with helpful staff, a nice pool and garden. Rooms were clean, modern and comfortable, though ours were at the front, on the road and it was a bit noisy at night. Poolside rooms would be better. The location's not fantastic, but then much of Sal appears to be a building site at present. It was excellent value for money, though I wouldn't really want to spend a week there."
Top Tip:
"This is a poor, undeveloped country, but you can get excellent food, coffee and local wine at reasonable prices. The people are friendly and charming."

"Although the Pontao was quite basic, they were good sized clean rooms. Nice swimming pool. Very freindly and helpful staff. Short walk to beach and town."

Top Tip:
"Zum Fisherman is an excellent seafood restaurant with huge portions. Note that ATMs in town only accept Visa."

"Hotel staff were friendly and helpful. I would say the breakfast was excellent. The whole place was very clean and the swimming pool was superb. I noticed they had a contractor cleaning the pool on at least a couple of the days during the week. there was always someone on duty to help and even when I needed some water late at night it was no problem."
Top Tip:
"I would recommend the Ficherman Restaurant. I had fillets of fish (ten different fish and two beers for 14.90 euros. the food was great and there were three local musicians playing music and singing."

"Very very noisy at the front from 7 am EVERY morning except Sunday - heavy trucks and lots of shouting - asked to move to the back but no spare rooms. Staff could not understand basic requests for extra towels etc in English. Shower door only closed two thirds of the way across so water came out onto the floor. Also view from pool was a building site."

"Beach in front of Morabeza is great as is Relax restaurant in town....."

Hotel Details - Pontao Hotel

Official Rating - 3* - Bed & Breakfast / Half Board

This is a small recently built hotel, with friendly Cape Verdean management in a very convenient location just 250 yards from the beach and the jetty with the fish market. The transfer from Sal International Airport to the hotel lasts 15 minutes.

Accommodation

All the rooms at the hotel are tastefully decorated in a fresh, bright style. Each room has air conditioning, satellite TV, telephone, fridge bar, balcony and private shower room. There are suites for 2 to 4 people, of which some have bedroom, bathroom, and slightly separate sitting area which can accommodate a third person, and some others are located on top floor and have 2 bedrooms, sitting room and bathroom.

Food & Beverage

Breakfast is served in the first floor breakfast room from 0730 to 1030, and there is also a small bar area. Although there is no restaurant within the hotel, guests booking half board have a choice of two restaurants called Funana and Americos located one close by the beach and the other in the town. The restaurants are open from 07:30 to 22:00.

Sports & Leisure

The swimming pool and surrounding sun terrace provide the perfect spot to relax and the nearest beach is only 200 meters away.

On entry into Cape Verde, you must obtain a visitors visa at the port of entry.
