"Really good place to stay in Funchal and great value for a 5* hotel. Our request was for a room suitable for 2 adults and 2 children and we were allocated a fabulous suite with 2 bedrooms/2 bathrooms/sitting room area and lovely terrace"

"We did not receive the room we booked on arrival but eventually this was rectified and we were upgraded. After this we really enjoyed our stay. Good service and breakfast. Great pools at the classic and the royal, we would all love to go again"

"Lovely hotel even though it is old and due to be knocked down. Food is great as were the staff!"

"Good hotel but a bit rough better to stay at the CS Maderia for the same price."

"Very good Hotel only fault it is little expensiv"

"Excellent service and a very pleasant atmosphere in the hotel. Would recommend it - but they have plans to demolish it and build a 6 star hotel, so not sure how much longer it will be there in its present form!
All the staff were courteous, friendly and willing to help. Due to its (possibly) imminent demolition it has not been maintained to quite the high standard one might expect, but what it is growing a little tired in by way of upkeep it makes up for in its classical charm.
All the resources of the new Royal Savoy are available to guests of the 'Classic' and the combined facilities provided an excellent range (5 swimming pools between them!)."

"Wonderful !"

"The hotel has lots of character and is run by efficient, friendly & courteous staff. Certain areas of hotel and the bedrooms are a 'bit tired' and in need of updating however, everywhere is spotlessly clean and very comfortable. I understand that the hotel is due to be pulled down in the next year and a new one built which explains the reason for the 'tired' decor."

"Pity it is being redevelped but the pool area needs to be larger"

"we were very disappointed with the quality of the hotel especially since it is advertised as 5 star, it is no longer that standard. it is very dated in decor and quality of facilities. it is made more apparent when we could use the 5 star facilities of the new Savoy - the two do not compare. the advert for the hotel was very misleading in our opinion and we would not have stayed there if we knew. 5 star is a high quality not a faded standard."

"Excellent hotel, fantastic staff, pity it's closing"

"In its day this was a great hotel. It's now tired and in need of a complete overhaul. This is not 5* quality. That said, it is linked to the Royal Savoy (true 5*) and you benefit from their fantastic facilities - great cocktail bar, great pools, gym, sauna etc. We had a really good holiday but this was more down to the helpful friendly staff that the hotel itself which was a real disappointment."

"The Classic Savoy is a traditional hotel with spacious rooms, excellent service, indoor and outdoor swmming pools and an atmosphere of luxury. It has beautiful gardens and a connection to the shoreline via its modern sister hotel, the Royal Savoy. The pools and bars of the Royal are also available to guests of the Classic Savoy."

"Excellent service Good atmosphere Good facilities"

"There are plans to renovate Savoy Classic Hotel. However it is still a fine Hotel. Our large room was well furnished and the soft furnishings in 'as new' order. The public areas are generous and in excellent condition. The service excellent. We would stay there again."

"Your organisation of the whole holiday was wonderful.
Everything went as smooth as silk and the price was better than any other.
Keep it up
Rob"

"The staff's service ethic was extremely good"

"The Savoy is a very pleasant 'old fashioned' hotel. It doesn't have a lot in the way of gardens, but does have access to the Royal Savoy's seafront facilities. February seems to be low season, so the hotel was not crowded. The downside was that there were not many eating options. The outside pools were a bit cold (even the child pool), but the inside pool was warm (going on hot). The staff were very friendly and helpful."

"This is our fourth stay at the Savoy and if was as good as ever"

"This is a brilliant hotel with 5* service.
Food was brilliant and staff couldn't be more helpful
We will be going again hopefuly before its refurbished"

"The seven day b&b visit to the Savoy Classic hotel was a very pleasant experience, although it is situated about 3/4 of a mile from the town centre which was down a long hill and a 5-euro Mercedes taxi ride away
The room sizes were most generous and the public spaces luxurious and extensive, including grand rooms, several dining rooms and even a library, with very attractive gardens surrounding the hotel and an excellent heated pool
Above all the lifts were miraculously efficient and the very numerous staff were extremely polite and helpful. We were provided, free of charge, with a wheelchair throughout and an entertaining celebration dinner; the included buffet breakfast was superb. Hotel drinks and meals were good but expensive while there were plenty of cafes and a few shops together with hole-in-the-wall banking locally
There have been rumours about redevelopment, which would be a shame, so get it while the going is good"

"It was very good, we have been several times. If it is still open next year let us know. There are rumours that it is to be knocked down and redeveloped."

"We had booked a double room, but were given a twin room, so had to move the beds together (although the bed was made up as a double for the rest of the stay).
On the last two days there was lot of banging after around 9am in the morning - maintenance, I guess.
The jacuzzis were both cold and seemingly out of order.
Aside from this, the hotel, and service, was absolutely excellent and probably the best I have experienced in Europe. I would perhaps try the Royal Savoy next time, as the Classic is probably showing it's age slightly (see above)."

"Loved the hotel - comfortable and with good facilities. Really enjoyed the great buffet breakfast in pleasant dining room. Staff very helpful. Room originally allocated was north facing and rather dark but request for upgrade willingly granted. Bed rather firm for our liking. Would definitely go back but understand that site being redeveloped some time in 2008 - shame! It's ripe for a bit of smartening up but not pulling down!"

"There is no way that the classic Savoy in Funchal is 5 star. The room was more l
