Why choose Krakow for a Short Break?

Krakow is fairly new to the city break map and is a superb destination for a magical mini break. Get here now and enjoy it while it is still relatively undiscovered. It is a beautiful, beautiful city full of old worlde charm with lovely restaurants, great cafes and crazy, friendly student bars, clubs and pubs.

This picturesque city is picture postcard perfect. Everything you need for a fabulous experience and memorable photos is here. Magnificent medieval castles and cathedrals, old narrow streets, huge market squares, pavement cafes, art galleries, museums, river cruises, mountains and even nature reserves. And the whole city is surrounded by a beautiful park, Planty, which has fountains and gardens.

This former capital of Poland has always been the artistic and cultural centre of the county and dates back to the 7th century. Krakow lies on the Vistula River in a valley at the foot of the Carpathian Mountains

For history buffs, Krakow is a great destination as its history is everywhere you look. UNESCO has listed the Old Town, the Wawel District (Royal Castle and the cathedral), and Kazimierz (originally divided into Christian and Jewish quarters) as World Heritage sites. And the Royal Route is a popular walk through the city. From St Florian's Gate walk past the Sukiennice (Cloth Hall) and St. Mary's Cathedral in the Main Market Square, down Grodzka and past the Church of St. Peter and Paul and then on to Wawel Castle. The Wieliczka Salt mine is also on UNESCO's list and has been working since the Middle Ages. It's massive with a health rehabilitation centre, sculptures and events.

Krakow's buildings survived the onslaught of World War II but the war took a far, far worse toll on its citizens. And nowhere is this more evident that in the camps at Auschwitz. You can also visit Oskar Schindler's factory, immortalized in the film 'Schindler's List' in the Podgórze. The Museum of Jewish History housed in the 16th century Synagogue is in the Jewish quarter.

There are tours available to show you around Krakow, to Aushwitz, the Salt mine, rafting and to the Tatra mountains.
