Madrid is a city to savour. Follow the Madrilenos lead and get your sightseeing done in the morning and then settle down for a long lunch and people watching at one of the city's many lovely cafes and brasseries. The bustling street culture is very infectious and with the perfect backdrops of ancient buildings, basilicas and sparkling fountains, you could be forgiven if you don't actually get into any of the museums. Although for lovers of Picasso and Dali, the Renia Sofia Arts centre houses one of the best collections in the world. And for those who have no qualms about blood sports, the bullring at La Plaza de Toros de Las Ventas is apparently the best bull ring in the world, and the best fights are in May and June. Madrid is also home to the 11 March 2004 Memorial.

Shopping in Madrid is excellent. There are the traditional and artisan crafts such as jewellery, paintings and leather goods found all over the city plus the modern shopping experience of the Principe Pio shopping centre, plus the incredibly popular Zara and Mango stores. There are also lots of markets to explore.
