"Fantastic place. A little expensive for food and drink but plenty of good restaurants across the road. Very elegant and clean."

"this was the first time i had booked my holiday in egypt via an online booking reservation and was a little concerned, probably at how easy and cheap this method was. i had stayed at the winter palace many times before so was aware what to expect.
booking in went smoothly even down to us getting the room we had requested in january 2008! will be booking this way in future.
the hotel may not be the 'swishist' hotel on the block although the great staff, central location and wonderful gardens and pool area make this the first rate hotel. not only can it be used as a base to visit the many egyptian sites, but as a relaxing centre for your holiday needs."Top Tip:
"we ignore the touts although this can be difficult. plesse do not take any notice when being told that the market is closed as you will be taken to another part of toeown to a member of their family's shop. this was even told to me right outside the entrance to the market! i generally thank them and suggest that i get a photo of them with their carriage licence so that i can pass it onto the tourist police with my 'grateful thanks'. this really puts them off and they scurry away. they are also not liked by the market traders themselves.
if you are concerned at venturing out after dark, pluck up the courage to cross the road opposite the winter palace and go down the ramp/ steps to the cornish el nile. here you will find some fixed price shops and a couple of great restaurants especially the KEBABGY. the other restaurants and coffee bars alson this walkway are also owned by the same person.

"Brilliant Holiday!!! 3rd Time to this hotel and as good as ever. Fodd perhaps not quite as previous but all in all acceptable.

"We were squeezed into a room meant for a mazimum of three people. When we booked we asked for a family room or two adjoining rooms. The returning email simply said we had one room so we assumed it was a family room. The hotel said it was nothing to do with them. The holiday rep never came to our hotel to help us. We otherwise enjoyed the holiday."

"Although building work is taking place on the main building it did not deter from our stay in the Pavillion. The only difference is using the Old Winter Palace as an entrance. The service is still brilliant and the pools and gounds about the best I have been to. Room service very reasonable and also the Coffee Shop.
Also excellent service from Travel Republic, no hassle no problems and good price.

"You can catch all Sky sports at the Metropolitan Bar, just across the road, and down the steps. Cheapest beer is Sinbads, just behind Luxor Temple. "This is an excellent hotel, with easy access to the Old Winter Palace, offering a choice of five different superb restaurants. Relax in the gardens and big pool area on a comfortable sunbed ! Friendly staff made this a great holiday."

"Hotel is to undergo major construction work very soon which is scheduled to take around 4 months. It should then be transformed. Old Winter Palace is very historic and New winter Palace is a modern addition with new work they should blend together and make a unique place to stay. Right on the Corniche alongside the River Nile."

"Hotel was lovely. I stayed in the New Winter Palace three years ago, but Pavillion was lovely. Gardens are perfect, Tours were great as were the guides via Thomas Cook. Only real downside was the usual scrum for a taxi from the airport. I know the egyptian culture but my partner thought it was awful. They were actually fighting over us in the end and we were asked to get out of the taxi we were in and go to another. Why can't the airport authorities organise a taxi rank where the first taxi takes the next fare? It's not rocket science. Also every driver is trying to rip you off which you might say is to be expected, but it just gives a first time visitor a very negative first experience of Egypt. Overall very good holiday but taxi service awful in every respect."

"Apart from a poor meal at the Italian restaurant one evening everything was great. Excellent service around the pool and in the bedrooms and bathrooms."
