"A fantastic hotel. Staff were friendly and helpful at all times. The building work was, at times, irritating but this was only minor. Pool staff were fabulous. Italian restaurant was superb. "

"I was disappointed to find after making our booking (at short notice) that the £30 that I paid for tickets to be delivered to the airport were written out by hand at the Thomas Cook desk by a dozy young lady who was more interested in doing her nails. I was further disappointed by the tickets which clearly showed 20kg standard luggage entitlement when I had been asked to pay an extra £30 for this. Finally I had been asked to pay £26 for in flight meals when these were served as standard on this flight. Perhaps you would be kind enough to offer an explanation?"

"Hotel was excellent, workers at hotel were all to hand and offered an excellent service, help and advice was always to hand. Throughout our stay we experienced no problems and were left in capable hands of the hotel staff. Each member of staff went out of their way to us feel welcomed weather it was for ordering us a taxi or just general advice on the customs and traditions of the country. Overall this has been an excellent experience, one I will cherish forever and not hestitate to recommend. Thank you Travel Republic"
Top Tip:
"Na'ama Bay, Old Market, Fantasia, El Makatoo Mall are all a must. When you want to purchase something never pay the asking price haggle your heart away and enjoy it at the same time as you will be surprised how fast and for how little you could pick up some bargains. Silk Road restaurant within the hotel is defo worth a visit. Worth popping upto the Sky Lounge bar when the have a free belly dancing show on. Pay 35 L.E for local taxis to and from Grand Rotana Hotel and Na'ama Bay as the locals pay 25 L.E for the same trip. If one taxi is charging too much walk away as there are many others willing to take you for a lower price. Do not feel obliged to tip only tip if your heart is telling you to. Never tip a Taxi. 10 L.E roughly £1 is more than enough for a tip. "

"We had a fantastic time at the Sonesta St George, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We had a massage which was so relaxing, could have stayed there longer! The pool was very welcome and we made good use of the pool bar. Our room was comfortable and clean and had a brilliant view of The Nile even though we only booked a side view. The food was very good especially the breakfast and each evening they had a different theme. Wonderful hotel, highly recommended."
Top Tip:
"The balloon trip is a must, they look after you even if you are scared of heights. The views are amazing!
The locals get on your nerves after a while, but a very firm 'NO' usually does the trick."

"Our every need was met, very friendly, helpful and efficient staff, wonderful to eat outside, next to the Nile under a starlit sky."

"Deans Bistro,does delicious food, to a very high standard, at very reasonable prices. Turn right out of the hotel, and it is on the opposite side of the road, down the ist lefthand road."

"Although work was going on we were fortunate to be on the first floor and didn't notice it at all. Our room had a bigger balcony and waking to the sun coming up over the Nile was something else.
The staff in all areas of the hotel were so attentive and nothing was too much trouble.
Although there are little things like the carpets being a bit worn and the bathrooms looking a bit jaded, this was minor and after the first day not noticed. What was apparent was that you were the most important priority and we loved every moment of the pampering we received.
From the dining room to the pool our two weeks really was an experience we will remember and our view from the balcony just awesome.
This holiday was better than we ever dreamed of. The beauty of Egypt and its people will stay in our memories for ever. The comfort of the Sonesta was the icing on the cake."
Top Tip:
"The food in John & Johns was very varied and the food is cooked to a very good standard and if you fancy a Sunday dinner this is as close to home cooking as you can get.
Snobs is beautifully decorated and they make you feel very comfortable. Again the food is excellent, but you can't get an alcoholic drink. Try the fish dishes especially.

"The hotel is superb, a very high standard of care from all staff in lovely surroundings.
I would reccommend The Sonesta st. George to anyone.
The building work we were informed about did not spoil the holiday as the work was building three new flours on the top of the hotel.The work was only during the day & caused quite a bit of interest especially from the men in my group.I found i could not sit on balcony as building items were being hoisted up past it on a pully but it didin't matter. "

"The building work was no real problem and the staff were all very good. I tipped the room cleaner every couple of days rather than at the end, which he appreciated. The Japanese restaurant in the hotel is very good, but the evening buffet in the Serapis restaurant was mediocre.

"Snobs restaurant is close and the food was of excellent quality, presentation and value for money. No licence, but they will let you take your own wine if you keep it under the table. The Kings Head was good for drinks and lunch. Avoid the Metropolitan down by the Luxor Museum for an evening meal - the food and service was poor. Having said that, it is a nice setting for a beer at lunchtime, and they did a good lunchtime pizza."

"In a super position alongside the Nile and also only a 10 minute walk from the centre of Luxor and Luxor Temple.This hotel is excellent value and although it is 5 star (Egyptian) we in the UK would rate it as a good 3-4 star. The hotel was spotless and really comfortable with excellent and friendly staff. The price of food in the hotel was really cheap(dinner for £7 per person,or less) but alcohol prices (£3 a bottle of beer) forced us to seek cheaper in the nearby hotels and restaurants.The breakfast with 40 dishes(can't eat some dishes as they are Egyptian/Japonese etc) was really great and set us up for the day.
Pool area is wonderful with swim up bar,plenty of shade,attentive bed attendants (they provide you with free towels) and waiters.Food can be ordered to be eaten at tables nearby or on your sunlounger.
Nothing much to do in the hotel at night, so see our tips for nearby entertainment."
Top Tip:
"For a cheap meal and cheap beer, cross the road and walk left a few yards to the first street on the right. Go into the St Joseph hotel and catch the small lift to the top floor. There you will find a rooftop bar/restaurant that serves food until around 11pm, and drinks later.Steak and chips is £5 and a beer £1-75 (half litre). You also have a great view over the Nile and surrounding area to help get your bearings. In the same street there are also some 'English' restaurants as there are in the street opposite the Sonesta. For a change also visit the Nile Palace next door but one to the Sonesta where there is a free cabaret every night with swirling dervishes,belly dancers etc.Beer prices are fractionally cheaper than the Sonesta (there is also an Italian restaurant in the Nile Palace).Other restaurants of note are in the Sheraton -turn right out of Sonesta and go to end of street bearing right then left - and also the top floor of the Gaddis Hotel where there is a 'John and John' restaurant and very ceap bar."

"there are plenty of good, cheap restaurants all within a 10 minute stroll
of the sonesta all under £3.00 incl.soft drinks. We tried room service a few times which we thought was good value. The Sonesta is in an ideal location. The building work did'nt bother us at all, the extension of the pontoon is lovely, as is the food served there. This is our second visit here & we're already planning our return."
Top Tip:
"We ate frequently at The Lantern, which is over the road to the right & first left, its on the right. The owner is a lady from shrops. If you want some entertainment go next door to the Nile Palace. The Kings Head pub across the road has food & a pool table a third of the price at the Sonesta"

"Wonderful Location, Friendly Staff, Good Food, Nice Pool Area. Building works until June 2008 but did not spoil our enjoyment. Amazing sights within short distance, Valley of Kings/Queens, Temple of Hatchetsuk, Collosi of Memon, Luxor Temple, Karnak Temple, Luxor Museum. Great activities, riding camels, Hot Air Baloons, Felucas and Caleches."
Top Tip:
"Local Taxis are better than organised tours. Our Driver Mr Fish organised everything at very reasonable rates. He can be found outside hote, turn right about 50yds. Will pick up from airport sayedtaxe@hotmail.com , Half day to Valley of Kings cost £10 sterling."

"It was very noisy in the room. There is building work going on at the hotel from 6am to 10pm. The noise of traffic is also very disturbing as is the "call to prayer" from the Mosque's PA system"

"Our stay was excellent. The staff in the hotel could not do enough to make our family holiday special. We will definitley return, before the end of year.................The only thing I was disappointed in was the work being done to the Hotel. Builders are adding an extra 2 floors. Although this was not noticable inside the Hotel, when sitting by the pool during the day it was a bit noisy. It would not put me off returning though."
Top Tip:
"Luxors Horse and carts proved to be a fantastic holiday adventure. Many people say not to go near them. However , this our 4th visit to Luxor we befriended Mr Lovely a carriage owner in the area. He could not do enough for us, he even ensured my mum and dad had a luxurious taxi to go to Karnac for the sound and light show. On their return he welcomed them back onto the steps of the Sonesta. My 9 and 10 year old sons throughly enjoyed this part of the holiday. The Kings Head across the road from the hotel - we watched many football matches here, the wine is half the price of the Hotel."

"We have come back from Luxor and thought that we should tell you that the Sonesta St George in Luxor are having 2 floors added to their hotel, day and night there are building works going on. Banging all the time.
We spent 11 nights there - you didn't tell us this at the time of booking, or even offered a discount as this was going on.
Is it possible for you to email us back. Maybe they would give a credit for a future booking.

"Three floors being added to top of hotel so lots of heavy industrial tools being used, causing lots of vibration and noise, from 9am-9pm. Very disturbing. Also
on the Pontoon pile driving and banging from 9am to as late as 10.30pm.
Guests were being move around constantly from room to room in an effort to reduce the noise disturbance that was affecting most of the guests holidays.
Building should be completed by September 2008."

"Change your money in the hotel, as you get a much better exchange rate in the hotel than you will in the UK."

"Very comfortable. Swimming Pool was excellent as were the pool staff who provided cheerful and helpful service. Good breakfasts, but other meals in the other in-house restaurants were about average. Several very reasonably priced restaurants nearby. Hotel is a little way from the centre of town (which is walkeable, just), but is beside the Nile. Taxis to the centre can cost as little as 15EGP (£1.40). Definitely would stay there again."

"This was my third stay at the Sonesta St George, but my first stay booked through Travel Republic, I also booked my flights with Travel republic in doing so saved approx £70 on tour ops package price, which was excellent. The hotel I can not fault The staff are excellent from houskeeping to pool attendants, the serapis Restaurant overlooking the pool and th Nile serves excellent Buffet stlye themes nights for fixed price of approx £10 per head, we went on International night and the Italian night and the food is absolutly superb, an enormous choice and service second to none, The poolside bar offers an extensive menu throughout the day again excellent value for money and mouthwatering dishes. The Beban serves Italian and has a spectacular first
floor panaramic view of the pool and the nile at night again food was superb. We didnt try the Japanese this time but when I ate there last year it was faboulous. Although this is a 5 star+ hotel the food prices are more than resionable and the staff throughout top Quality , I have stayed at some top hotels throughout the world but the service at the Sonesta is the best. Having been there twice in the last 2 yrs I was treated as a Vip guest by management and all thestaff , in my room was Dressing gowns and slippers, the next day we recieved a large bunch of flowers on the dressing table, the next day in the afternoon a basket of pastries and cakes appeared and the next day a huge bowl of fruit ( These are normally only given to people who book a nile suit
