Stephanie from Warrington reviewed the St. Joseph Hotel
"Well I sort of knew what I was letting myself in for when I got such a cheap price. We stayed at the St Joseph before and after a trip to Cairo and Alexandria so wasn't looking for a 5 star hotel. The room we were given was a bit grot so we asked for another room - we were shown 2 others and one of them was a bit better and a triple room with a Nile view - so it pays to ask for another room if you're not happy.
The carpet was really filthy - I could see this when I moved one of the beds and could see the original colour of the carpet - not quite sure why they have carpets because the dust from the city makes them filthy in no time.
There is a pool on the roof and I had been up there on a previous visit to Luxor but only for a drink. It has a fabulous view over the Nile and the city but on closer inspection, the pool furniture is old and really tatty. The towels they provide you with are old white towels which don't even cover up the lounger - which is wooden with the paint peeling off. The one thing to mention is that they didn't have any sunshades around the pool - if you wanted a bit of shade by the pool you would have to wait for the sun to come around the side of the building or go and sit at one of the tables. If you can see past that it is OK as far as pools go - that's OK - not good but again it was the cheapest hotel I've ever stayed in.
The reception and dining room were a little old fashioned and tatty but the reception staff were friendly and helpful and the breakfast staff and the breakfasts themselves again were acceptable.
Unless I really couldn't afford it I woulnd't stay there again but if you are looking for very cheap accomodation with the basic comforts I would recommend the St Joseph."

"The Oasis cafe is exactly that - a little oasis in the middle of Luxor."

food in the restaurant was first class.
fantastic value for money."
"Have just returned from our fourth visit to St Joseph Hotel in Luxor, all booked with Travel Republic and once again absolutely delighted. Will be going again and wouild recommend this small friendly hotel, ideally suited to any one. Will of course, as always be using Travel Republic to book hotel and flights. "

"Go on a hot air balloon flight, but do not pay any more than £25 approx £275 Egyptian pounds, you may even get it for a little bit less!"
keith from wallington reviewed the St. Joseph Hotel
"The room was clean, service and food in the restaurant were good and the day time roof -bar facility was excellent. The noise from passing traffic was incessant and a real problem at night but, having spent a similar amount of time in the same week at a hotel in Giza, it seems that this is a problem that cannot be avoided if one chooses to stay anywhere near the city centres!"

"The valley of the Kings and the Valley of the Queens are well worth a visit. (Note that some of the tombs are not open to visitors, and that of Tutenkhamun is closed for a couple of hours just after mid-day.) The temple at Karnak (two-three miles away) is huge and very interesting and the Sound and Light show there is excellent."
cyril from Manchester reviewed the St. Joseph Hotel
"the fact that my visit was my fifth should say a lot for this hotel i have never experienced such friendly staff.i spoke to three people who had visited more than once.Food was good al a carte not buffet.excelent and good choice.sun loungers and matresses free near the roof swimming pool.happy hour two hours each night.i will certainly be returning again this winter."

"we have stayed here many times the hotel tops as are the staff need i say anymore 16 1 07.the staff cannit do enough to help you"

"try the lantern restuarant turn left out of the hotel take the first left and its on the right good cheah food debbie (owner) will take good care of you"
"Hotel itself was good, basic and clean. Rooftop was a lovely place to relax, the pool was not heated but that in itself was refreshing. The staff were all very attentive and I thought, honest. Just be cautious when asking for advice in booking tours, we were a group of five and they quoted us prices per person per day, which we found out later was an extortionate amount.

"Look past the dated decor of St Joseph's and look at the Staff. THEY ARE FANTASTIC from the cleaners to the reception. Returning holidaymakers are remembered from the time you book in, to the roof staff, diningroom and bar staff, they all greet you with a welcome back.

"Turn left at front of hotel and walk down to the next left street (opposite the Sonnesta St. George) . About 1/3 of the way down on right is Queen's Bistro (nextdoor to Estate agent) nothing special to look at but Waleed makes the best Fish, chips and mushy peas in Luxor. Batter freshly made and fish has no bones.
Try the liver and onions with mashed spud. Where could you get Jacket spud with Tuna for 2 and four cups of fresh coffee for less than a Fiver. "
"Hotel was basic, but comfortable and extremely clean. Staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them."

"Karnak Travel, located at the foot of the Old Winter Palace Hotel, arranged superb trips at very competitive prices. Can highly recommend the hot air balloon trip, the Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut Temple, and the Felucca boat trip down the river Nile at sunset.
Definitely worth paying a little extra to have a guide to take you on trips to give you the background history.
Try hiring a push bike for the day (can be arranged through your hotel) - it's a great way to see Luxor, especially 'Down Town' and further afield, and you don't get hassle from the Calesh or Felucca touts."
"this hotel is a jem in the heart of luxor, I was very dubious having stayed in the sonesta st george and the movenpick I need not have worried as the rooms are really clean and the staff very friendly would definately stay again"
Leonard from Doncaster reviewed the St. Joseph Hotel
"We had an excellent view of the River Nile and also an extended balcony area. The roof terrace bar/pool area was absolutely fantastic. Service was also excellent and all in all very friendly staff - can not do enough for you."

"Go out and explore there are also good bars in the locality offering beer!! and snackettes!"
"Yes I feel as other reports that the hotel is basic but it suited my needs, in order to explore Luxor. I may say however that the traffic noise is pretty bad at most times and this did affect the quality of my stay. I ate out most nites as there are plenty of good restaurants nearby, with varying menus and prices. Lunch menu at hotel was good value, but you can eat out cheaper.
This is a reasonable hotel for the money.
I understand that the owners are in the process of building a brand new hotel closer to Luxor town. Assume that this will have the latest amenities including sound proofing!"

"As i said good eating out in Luxor in this enclave of hotels on the southern end of town. try Snobs for a really nice menu, however be prepared it is more enxpensive than most."
"Clean hotel, a little dated but we only used it to crash in. View from the balcony was excellent, to get a good view pick rooms 501 /503 /601/603 The food in the resturant was excellent. If you book half board you get 4 courses a night!! YUM YUM"
Top Tip:
"If you run out of money then the shop in the hotel will chnage up some english money for you free of charge"
"The hotel is superbly clean and well run.
The the staff were fantasticly courteous, friendly and genuine.
We all enjoyed our stay and intend to return to Egypt, when we will stay at St Josephs once again.
This hotel puts UK hotels to shame,as we found that nothing was too much trouble for the staff at St Josephs. We were stunned by the welcome and hospitality that we received during our stay."
Stephen from Bridgwater reviewed the St. Joseph Hotel
"Quite central. Nice friendly staff in the resturant. Food lovely and good variety. I would recommend the half board option which was great value for money. resturant opening times were flexible which helped when planning trips. the room was basic and a little shabby but kept spotlessly clean. Views from the balcany across the nile where outstanding. I would return to this hotel as it was fantastic value for money."
W from West Yorkshire reviewed the St. Joseph Hotel
"food is no good
Staff, cleaners use your aftershave, deodorant etc when you are not in the room ruined my electric razor and are always begging money or good from you"
"The St Joseph is a great hotel, I am very fussy about hygiene and this is a superb clean hotel. All staff are lovely and so helpful. Air con is good in the rooms as are all the room facilities. Food is very good. I have stayed in several hotels in Luxor and this one is the tops. Thank you for a great stay I will be back time and time again."
"Have been to the hotel twice now. Its a good value, clean hotel with everything you need and a rooftop pool overlooking the nile. Friendly staff. Would not recommend eating there in the evening as you can get better food outside of the hotel but its a fantastic base and would recommend it."
"Hotel was very clean, room, pool, restaurant, very clean. Food very good value, staff very helpful. Can only praise this fantastic liitle hotel. Will stay there again."
