Top Tips from our customers for Beaches & Sights in Krakow - Poland

- Public transport is wonderful and so cheap there is a bus stop a few yards from the hotel and it cost just 40p to get into town they run every 5mins and are very clean. A visit to the salt mines are well worth it they are marvelous. We visited auschwitz and although very thought provoking i think its something everyone should see and experience

Stayed at Express By Holiday Inn HotelApril 2007 - Krakow was a wonderful city. There are so many lovely resturants and bars it would be hard to recommend anyone specific. There is so much to see. We were very lucky as apart from all the wonderful sites to see we had an excellent Christmas market and it snowed making the city seem magical. We will definitely be returning maybe in summer.

- Some of the best restaurants are just off the main square in the side streets, spend time looking around. A second tip would be to make use of the public transport rather than booking on trips. We saved at least 30% per trip by using public transport.
It also gives more insight to life and the experience of visiting another country.

Stayed at Monopol Krakow HotelNovember 2007 - Krakow is a great place. Loads of good restaurants, look on Cracow life for best examples, the Florentyna and Corleone were two ones that spring to mind. Take the public transport, very cheap, and extremely efficient. Don't visit Auschwitz on the last day, very harrowing but should be visited. We found a great little wood carving/model shop on Ul.Stradomska 9. Great Polish guy who speaks a little English but loves everything Monty Python! Very entertaining and the models were great and cheaper than in the Cloth Hall in market square.

Stayed at Ascot HotelMarch 2008 - Krakow is a city of two cities. The centre and the Jewish region. Both have a lot to offer.
Exchange rate was better in Poland than in England.
Traditional Polish soup Zurek - its a winner in winter - very hearty and filling.

Stayed at Ostoya Palace HotelMay 2008 - Organised coach trips to the salt mines and Auschwitz were interesting and well organised. The congestion on the roads to these places meant that the tours did not keep to time table and were rushed once the tour destination was reached.
The trip to Zakopane was a good full day visit. The centre of Zakopane is a street of tourist souvenir shops and cafes which may not be to everyone's taste but the surrounding country is worth the trip.

- Whilst the tram back to the airport is very efficient and takes about 20 minutes for 6 zloty per person, the bus takes about 35 minutes at 2.5 zloty per person and you get to see the outskirts of Krakow.

Stayed at Monika HotelJanuary 2008 - tour buses to the salt mine leave form just over teh bridge next to the hotel, look for teh pocket guides ( we found ours in the hotel)for places to go in the evenings

Stayed at Qubus HotelJanuary 2008 - If you plan to go on any excursions look about first for a better price than the hotel is offering. We managed to save 150 zloty by using one of the many information kiosks dotted around the centre. It is wise to check out a few different kiosks too as the price can vary dramatically.
Wawel Palace is amazing, even better when it is free. It is free on a Sunday, but get there early because they are only able to allow so many people in.
If you want to take photographs in St Mary's church you must pay and not use your flash. To be honest unless you have a very special camera there is no point. My daughter was unaware of this rule when we entered the church and used the flash, even that photo did not turn out good.
You may find some people quite abrupt. In Wawel palace do not allow your kids to touch the glass on the cabinets holding the guns and swords. My five year old boy received a rollicking from an older polish member of staff for doing just that.
