Top Tips from our customers for Beaches & Sights in Lisbon - Portugal

- A day trip to the local beaches are easy and cheap (about 3 euro return). Estoria or Cascais are the best bets. Day trip to Sintra is also recommended but beware, the hill to the castle is long and steep! Final tip - restaurant called Sacramento near the convent in the centre of Lisbon is reasonably priced and has a great romantic atmosphere. definitely recommend it.

Stayed at Zenit HotelAugust 2007 - Catch the TST No 161 express bus from Areeiro taking you over the suspension bridge to the beaches of Costa Caparica. You can make it a round trip by returning on the 124 bus to Cacilhas, where you can get on the ferry back over the river to Lisbon, then back on the Metro to Areeiro. Beware of pickpockets on the Metro.
Catch the Metro or the train to Oriente and explore the Vasco da Gama shopping centre and the Aquarium, and enjoy a panoramic riverside cable car ride.
Catch the train from Roma-Areeiro direct to Sintra, ride anywhere by bus around Sintra, Cabo da Roca, Pena Palace, Cascais, Estoril, etc, and catch the train back from Cascais or Estoril to Lisbon. All this can be done on a €12.00 one-day Train & Bus Travelcard – excellent value.
Buy a one-day (or more) ride-at-will ticket for the Metro, trams and buses.

- A trip to Sintra via the frequent (every 10-20 minutes) rail service from Rossio station is a must. The Royal Place is one of the "wonders of the world".

Stayed at Dom Pedro Palace HotelMarch 2008 - The castle is a great point of interest and has great views. Get a taxi or train to Belém to see the riverside monuments, awesome view of the impressive suspension bridge and a selection of riverside bars and restaurants. River cruses are also good value for money though a lot of the river front to the east is industrial. Oh and you have to do some port tasting while you're there!

Stayed at Residencial Caravela HotelMay 2008 - After using the Metro for the first time, use the "Zapping" function on the touch screen ticket issuer (can change this to read English by clicking on Union Jack symbol). Zapping re-loads your journey requirements onto the ticket at a slightly reduced cost - no waste and no mess in the stations whilst saving you a little bit of money. Metro stations are fantastically clean and easy to use.

- To get to Praca Commercio and other places go to the Metro at the Praca Marques de Pombal and buy a 7 Colinas rover ticket for the number of days you want. With this ticket you can use the bus, metro, tram and funicular.
