LESLEY from SUNDERLAND reviewed the Best Western Victoria Hotel
"The hotel was very good, close to all amenities, beach and entertainment. When we arrived, however, we were told that our rooms had been double booked for one night, and were asked if we would go next door to the Benidorm Plaza hotel for one night until the rooms were ready. Apparently this is a common problem for online bookings versus agent bookings. The hotel management then spontaneously offered us full board accommodation as an upgrade on our bed and breakfast booking, as compensation for the move, and that we could either stay at the Benidorm Plaza, or return to the BW Victoria. Having 3 hungry teenagers with us, we jumped at the offer of full board! We moved back to the Victoria next day, and enjoyed all meals at the very good restaurant for a full week. Success!!! We would recommend this hotel to anyone, very clean and professional. The pool is quite small, and can get full of noisy Spanish kids, but you can put up with that."
Top Tip:
"The Victoria is a 15min walk to the busy 'square' of pubs and clubs, best to walk along the beach front after dinner, then make your way up to the pubs. "

"I have just returned with my partner from a 2 week holiday, staying at the Best Western Victoria. We had a room on the 16th floor with amazing views over the resort and out to sea, with the hills further up the coast. There was a decent sized TV in the room.
We found the food to be excellent, plentiful, fresh, and choiceful at all times. We particularly enjoyed the special nights they had on - Chinese, Mexican, Italian etc. All very nice. If you couldn't find anything you liked there had to be something wrong with you - they even had chips for those who just had to have them. Bottles of wine with the meal were all very cheap too. The restaurant staff were friendly. The reception staff were the same.
The hotel was full of Spanish pensioners who were often quite friendly, in the lifts, very courteous. In fact they spoke to us more than any of the Brits.
We also used the gym downstairs - 'Club Nautilus' - and took part in the Body Combat class, which was alot of fun (as I teach this back home).
The bathroom in the room was fantastic, with TWO sinks - one each! This certainly speeded up getting ready in the mornings! The shower was wonderful too!
The pool area wasn't the largest, with a limited amount of sunbeds but we never, ever had any problems obtaining one, and the sun was on the pool area up to around 6pm.
Location wise, Levante and Poniente Beaches are within 5 and 10 minutes walking distance respectively. It's nicely away from the tacky new town and those horrendous 'British Bars' full of the most miserable people you could possibly see on a 'holiday'. Plus it's only 5 minutes walk from the Old Town which we prefer. But if you like the awful new town, then you are probably better off staying at one of the numerous hotels in that area. The hotel is also in a nice quiet neighbourhood, with no noise at night.
The Railway Station is only about 15-20 minutes walk away, up the hill and it's quicker to walk through the long straight park, rather than alongside the busy roads, where friendly staff directed us to our trams/trains when we fancied a trip to Alicante or further up the coast to Denia or Altea (very easy to do and cheap - so don't miss out as you get to escape the concrete jungle and see the coastal, hilly scenery).
We really enjoyed our stay here and I would recommend this to anyone looking for a 'nicer' hotel with 'nicer' clientelle than you would normally expect in a place like Benidorm. We've raved so much about it, my partner's Mum and Dad have already decided it will be the hotel they stay in when they next go to Benidorm!

"Just returned from a weeks holiday at the Victoria Hotel. This must be one of the best hotels in Benidorm. Very comfortable, clean & bright. Would recommend this to anyone who likes a bit of comfort on their hols. and be close to the old town which is wonderful a world away from "entertainment" end. Food very good plenty of choice and well presented."
Top Tip:
"Make sure you walk up to the park area in the old town up from the hotel. Very pleasant."

"food ok but could have been better, seemed to cater for the spanish pensioners, these were the majority so thats only fair really i suppose, elevators slow at peak meal times, although the pool area was small it was in full sun from 10 till 5.30 in April so this was good, Overall a very clean and well maintained hotel in a good position for the town ( beach5-6 min walk), would happiely go there again."

"Stayed in Hotel Victoria 26th May to 2nd June.
Hotel was very clean and the reception areas are quite plush. Most rooms have pleasant outlook, especially ones on the higher floors. Hotel caters mainly for elderly Spanish but at least things are peaceful when you return to the hotel in the evening. Definitely no noisy parties here. Staff, particularly reception and bar staff, could be more friendly and pleasant to the non Spanish guests and this really is my only criticism. They were very obviously biased towards the Spanish clients - helping with luggage, attending to them first, etc. Chamber maids were efficient and very pleasant. As regards ResortHoppa Transfer which was arranged through Travel Republic - although they were prompt and the coaches were comfortable, I found they could have given more assistance with luggage. They turned up 30 minutes earlier to pick us up from hotel and despite the coach being parked a fair distance away, the driver simply pointed in the direction to where it was and left us to it. We were able to pull our cases but if we had been elderly, then this would be a different story. I also observed, when we picked up at another hotel, that the driver left a young mother who had a baby in a pram to pull her luggage across the road as well as having to deal with the pram, without offering any assistance. This is the only occasion I have not tipped the coach driver but I felt I just couldn't, under the circumstances. I would probably return to this hotel as the location is very good and the hotel is first class."

"My favourite restaurant ,which I have visited over the last ten years, is the Toscana, Italian, situated a few minutes from the hotel at the start of Calle Gerona. You will get as good a steak and pasta here as you will get anywhere. Service and staff are excellent. Salads are huge and delicious. Dishes are beautifully presented."

"If you like Good Food and A Very Clean Hotel which is a 10/15 minute walk to the very clean beach and very close to shops and restaurants/bars then this is the place for you. The Hotel also offers the little things that most do not IE daily papers in foyer, shampoo & shower gel in rooms, only a £1 a day to hire a safe, and be warned its very easy to put on the pounds if you have a big appetite. Its a very good value for money as I found out by booking with the Travel Republic, one more thing if you want a great view in a generous size room then request room 1603. "We chose the Best Western Hotel Victoria for our stay having been very satisfied on previous visits and we were not disappointed. It is quite the best hotel in which we have stayed in Benidorm and if anything it has improved over past years. Thank you for your professional services which also were faultless. "

"Benidorm Old Town has an 'Old Town Music Hall' in which two professional entertainers do just that for the price of a couple of drinks from the bar. A very enjoyable evening with audience participation. Wonderful ukulele playing by Chris Allen who is a class act in the George Formby vein."

"before booking i checked out various feedback from guests that had previous stayed at this hotel, although there were a couple of negative comments the positive ones far outweighed these.
We decided to stay there and how pleased we were that we made the right choice.
I would give this a 5* rather than a 4*. i have stayed in hotels all over the world for pleasure and in business from budget to 5*, and i have to say i could not fault one thing.
We were greeted on arrival by very helpful friendly staff who gave us all the information on everything we needed to know. this was also provided in the room directory. the food was unbelievable and the cleanliness and decor throughout was first class.
when booking i requested a high floor no smoking room with sea view if possible.
All of my requests were fulfilled and i honestly could not of asked for more.
I will be returning back to Benidorm in early 2007 this time with my parents and will definately book this hotel again.
I have also made my next booking for Malta in January 2007 through Travel Republic, and will be more than happy to book all future trips through them due to the excellent no hassle proffesional service i have received.
Our expectations were greatly exceeded throughout and we had a fantastic memorable holiday.
Thank you Travel Republic.

"this hotel is in an ideal position. close to the main shopping area, but only a five minute walk to the beach.
there are bars restaurants and shops etc within seconds of the hotel in every direction. although the hotel has private parking there is free street parking in the side roads opposite.
for great tapas and cheap drinks visit the plazza mayor just up a covered in walkway off the main shopping street.
a glass of red wine and a glass of rose sparkling wine a bargain at 1.90 euro (less than £1.50) plus a plate of free tapas served with each order."
