Michael from London reviewed the Alta Galdana Apartments
Check-in Date: 19/Jul/2010

Good quality fittings, clean and tidy. The big plus for us was that the apartments have two separate bedrooms. BBC1/2 provided an evening bonus. We had a roof terrace rather than a balcony. We also missed out on the amazing view of the bay from the higher up apartments. The apartments are about halfway up a fair hill (less far than Floramar and a lot closer to the beach than Annabels and the like). It's quite OK for most but those with walking difficulties should avoid. Note also lack of air conditioning. We knew this but we did miss it on the hottest nights.

Top Tip Very good restaurant (Sa Lluna) close by, though don't expect a quick meal. The ones bacng on the front were not so hot. Don't miss the Mirador da Punta on the far side of the bay (you must not use the Sol lifts to avoid the climb up. No, really, you mustn't, though their air conditioning and the view from the restaurant were good!).

The resort has a small recognisable centre (unlike some of the other resorts we visited) so alternatives to roasting on the beach are in short supply. Car hire a good idea for a few days, though only one road in and out. The clifftop walks to the nearby calas would have been an option in cooler weather!

a basic apartment, but covers all you need for a stay, fantastic view of the bay and close to the beach (albeit a bit of a steep walk).
Very relaxed and friendly feel from all and especially at the adjoining Sa Luna bar which is the best food/atmosphere of any restaurant in the resort.
We would recommend it as being great value - you could pay a lot more elsewhere, but as a base for a holiday, this is great.
Only critisism is the linen could do with being changed more often.

We thought it was very good value for money although we weren't lucky enough to get an apartment with a seaview, our view was pleasant enough. Very helpful owner. Equipped with microwave and kettle. Nice and clean and towels provided and changed mid week.

Top Tip Bar/restaurant next to the apartments has a very friendly owner. Food in general isn't haute cuisine though.

2nd year at the Alta Galdana, basic but exellent value for money , everybody friendly and helpfull. Very steep access to apartments but managable would recomend them to anybody who wants a cheap and cheerfull holiday.

Top Tip Sa Luna restaurant below the apartments is excellent , Sa Tasca in the square is good for tapas and a drink , The Fonta Trevi is also excellent. These 3 cafe/restaurants have lovely staff , good food and reasonable prices.

Lovely little apartments. Very basic but just what you need if you are looking for a nice quiet, relaxing holiday right near the beach. Also has a very nice and very clean swimming pool area. Supermarket is right across the road too.

The owner was very accommadating and the guy in the bar downstairs was very nice too. Everybody here is so friendly and welcoming.

Cala Galdana is a gorgeous place too......we are going back!

Top Tip Go to Macarrella and Macaralletta beach. It's quite a long walk but is worth it. Also Sa luna downstairs is one of the nicest places to eat there.

lovely views, basic but clean. helpful management.

Top Tip meson merciano is the best restaurant in the resort. Lovely family run business nothing too much trouble and the food is excellent catering for traditional menorcan cuisine down to pizza and burgers for the kids. Seafood is fresh every day and tastes divine - definately a place to visit !

For the price paid, the accommodation is fine. Yes, it's basic but was well equipped and the beds were comfortable. It's up a steep hill and lots of steps, hence why I said "not suitable for older people" but if you are fairly fit, that's not a problem (we are 54 & 63 respectively).
We had a great time, and I certainly would be happy to stay there again. Marco, the manager, and all his staff go out of his way to make your stay enjoyable.

Top Tip Restuarant Sa Lluna, attached to the apartments is great. Friendly staff and good food at a reasonable price. What more could you ask?

the accommodation was as previous people had commented, basic but clean and for what we paid for it, we were satisfied. Request a sea view, but make sure you are not on the bottom floor of the block otherwise you won't see the sea. Be aware there are lots of steps so not suitable for the elderly

Top Tip Best place to eat Sa Luna right under the appartments, Peter is a real character.

It was just what we wanted! A friendly personal service and our own well equipt self catering appartment. We had a fantastic view of the bay that was worth carrying the pushchair up a flight of stairs. (Not all appartments have such a great view - we stayed in appartment A9) A large balcony / terrace is given to every appartment. Next to two supermarkets and with a fantistic on-site restarant.

Top Tip St Luna restaurant (on site, but different management) was fantastic with friendly staff. The beach was great for children with beautiful sand and carm blue waters.

Very basic but extremely clean apartments. We stayed for five nights and given a change of towels once during our stay which was fine. Owner was friendly and helpful. The pool area was fantastic we had trouble getting are children away from it. The apartments are well placed within the resort of Cala Galdana. Parking up the hill and a good supermarket across the road. Great value holiday particularly for a family of 5 - we would recommend and return ourselves.

Top Tip Fantastic restaurant - Sa Lluna within pool area of apartments. Great choice of food, friendly staff, reasonably priced and lovely atmosphere. Highly recommended for a good family meal.

We had 3 young children in our party, and were given apartment C27 which over looked the pool on the ground floor - that was great . The pool is lovely and clean and the kids loved it. Only about a 5min walk down to the main shops and restaurants , and a bit more to the beach, just over the bridge. The beach is stunning and very safe for little ones - crystal clear water and white sand, and very shallow. Kids loved looking for little fish and shells with the fishing net .
This is a really quiet resort , we were there 1 week, and think that was enough - not for anyone looking for a lively holiday.
All in all we would def recommend these apartments, though the walk up the hill from the beach/shops etc is a killer !!

Top Tip The little train is great value, and takes you all over the resort .
The glass bottom boat only goes once a day at 11am , so book in advance - we missed it.
The restaurant next door Sa Luna is lovely and staff great with kids.
Also restaurant up the hill (can't remember the name) is good - had special menu deals and a kids play area.

Fantastic holiday- apartments in need of refurbishment but for the price we paid they were fine, the views from the roof terrace were amazing. very steep access to our apartment but we managed it (and we are in our sixties) with a lot of cursing ,when we could catch our breath .Towels changed 3 times , sheets once , No cleaning service but we didn't find that a problem. Cala Galdana is a most relaxing destination with easy bus access to both main towns. All holiday arrangments organised through Travel Republic ie plane taxi hotel went like clockwork.

Top Tip Sa lluna restaurant is attatched to apartments and is very good ,also the Trevi which is as you start to walk along the gorge. in the square is a tapas bar that does very well priced food and is nice to sit in at night. All the Menorcan and Spanish people that we came in contact with were pleasant and helpfull. By the check out at the supermarkets you will find a small book called the diary of a blister, well worth buying, it lists several walks in and around Cala Galdana. This has been the best holiday we have had for years and will certainly be back. Food prices not bad we spent a lot less than previous years in Lanzarote

We had a fantastic holiday at the Alta Galdana Apts. The location was perfect - very close to pool, restaurant, supermarket and beach. There are steps to all apartments which where not a problem for us but could be for elderly and families with small children. The room facilities were perfect, fridge, microwave, hob etc. Bedrooms had fans. Would definitely book again.

Top Tip Sa Lluna restaurant which is joined to the apts. has a lovely atmosphere, great food and excellent staff (especially the Owner Pere). Also visit 'Cala Mitjana' restaurant which is also good. If you want to have tapas go to The Alaska cook a large variety.

Overall fantastic holiday - disappointed we only had a week there !!

We were looking for a budget holiday this year due to the rubbish Euro exchange and found an absolute gem.. Definately deserves a higher rating but luckily we went on the reviews of other holiday makers and were not dissapointed. We were lucky enough to get a sea view apartment with a beautiful outlook over the bay so lots of time was spent on the balcony. Will definately be booking these apartments again next year.

Top Tip As the other reviews state Sa Lluna is the place to go for the best food and very extensive menu. Pedro was a star, he and his family were so welcoming and great fun and made our stay extra enjoyable and relaxing. We managed the walk over to Macarella Beach which was well worth the treck and has some beautiful picture opportunities.

We really enjoyed our holiday in cala galdana the place itself and the beach the only negative was the lack of cleaning in the room and the lack changed bed sheets. the rooms are very basic but it wouldnt put us going back.

Top Tip la sallou under the apartments the food was great also good service, Miqueals at the top of the road is also great, cala caldana also has other beaches if you are prepared for a walk, they are worth the walk. the only negative about the holiday was it was very exspensive a beer was between 3 and 4 euros, loaf of bread 2-3euros, nothing is cheap anymore, everyone i spoke to said the same.
