C from Wavertree reviewed the Anezi Hotel
Check-in Date: 19/Aug/2010

We thought the hotel and facilities/service were great but the self catering accommodation was not as spacious or decorated as we would expect a 4* to be. The bathroom had an overpowering sewage smell and when we were moved (to a smaller appt) the smell was there too. The air con hose poured out onto the balcony everytime we turned it on. However, the pool area and low key entertainment was excellent. The hotel bank only opened once during our week's stay. Great location, although guests need to be aware of the large number of steps down to the beach front.

Top Tip Ask to be directed to the Uni Prix supermarket. Souvenirs here are a fixed price and cheap and as good as the souk. The Nil Bleu on the sea front is the best value restaurant around, with entertainment and good service.

The hotel was nice but the apartments were not as good as there show you on the pictures, there was alot off noise in the apartments as there were refurbushing them , the beach is like ten minute walk from the hotel and the the eating places are quite far away...also be-aware you get alot off kids asking for money but these people are not poor its a buisness for them.overall the cleaners were very helpfull, the hotel staff were good and freindly.

Top Tip nothing special just kids asking you for money and alot of morroccon guys that repeat the same thing every time you see them... VODKA-WISKEY-MASSAGE-QUAD BIKE-JET SKI I have good price, infact there charge you double as there are on commision so be-carfull when booking excursions.

A really friendly hotel with great staff who are all very obliging.Hotel is well situated to get around the town and close to the beach.
Rooms a bit tired but bars restaurants and public areas all refurbished and very good
food fine and reasonable choice

Lively panoramic bar on top floor -fab views at night
For a great deal you can't beat the Anezi

Top Tip If you like fish and seafood take a cab to the fishing harbour and try lunch in the fishermen's restaurants with the locals - basic surroundings but best ever fish cooked straight from the sea and very cheap

The hotel is gorgeous. The rooms may be a little tired but still worth it.
There is a fantastic bar on the 10th floor which is open till 1 am and from where you can have a superb view of Agadir. The bar is very expensive ( expect to pay double the price you would pay even in the UK!), but to be recommended.
The hotel has a large pool and is perfect for a beach holiday. The downside is the restaurant - which was not the best neither for breakfast nor for dinner, but still, it offers quite a generous selection of food, and you can still opt for salads (which abound!) if you don't fancy the hot food that much.
I have been to other hotels of higher rating just nearby and frankly I found the Anezi to be way better. There is a more laid back atmosphere and generally quite friendly staff as well.

Top Tip everything is within walking distance, there are nice cafes restaurants bars open till the small hours any type of shops, fantastic location, the beach is a 5-minute walk

We were stuck because of the volcanic ash and the staff were brilliant. We extended our stay for a extra 6 days and they were so helpfull and sympathetic. The bedrooms were a bit tatty but we still had a great time. The food was good too.

Top Tip A few minutes walk away was a Uni prix shop where everything was priced, so no haggling

The Anez has an old fashioned charm that makes it quite delightful. The accomodation was spotlessly clean. The food was very good, but not a large range of choices. The staff are really great, nothing was too much trouble.

Maybe later in the season everything will work but at Easter:-
there was only 1 restuarant open,
the bureau de change had no money and always refused to cash travellers cheques, the steam room and sauna were not open,
there was no draught beer and bottled beer was avialable on the condition if you insisted on a glass you returned it immedialtely,
there was no table tennis available.
Comments like "if you want money go to a bank" or "it is too cold for the sport team to work yet". Did not help

Hotel was cleaned daily and staff were very helpful and friendly. It is basic for a 4* hotel.

hotel was clean and comfortable. food was a bit bland on occassion but overall satisfactory. shower was powerful and water was always hot. room was cleaned daily and no complaints on that department. swimming pools were cold and not heated as mentioned, even thought the weather was lovely highs of over 25 degrees the water was still too cold to swim in. the website mentions there is handryers as standard in all romms, but this is not true. none of the rooms have hair dryers. the view was spectacular from the room, we had booked a double sea view room with a cot for the baby, the cot had to be asked for when we got there even though we requested it when booking, however this wasnt a problem as they brought it up straight away. even though we booked a double sea view room, the bed was not a double but in fact two singles pushed togather, when asking at reception for the room to be changed to a double was told that the only double rooms are not with a sea view, so we decided to stay put with the 2 singles. not ideal for a couple. staff were really friendly, although reception staff did not speak much english, and were not very informative of what shows etc the hotel offered, they only answered the questions you asked. overall was a pleasent stay, would defo recommend!!!

Top Tip beach was a short walk away, plenty of restaurants close by and macdonalds andpizza hut on the beach too. ps the food at pizza hut is not the sam standard as here, stick to macdonalds

conveniently placed, good value for money, a short walk to the beach
Helpful staff, just about right as 3 star hotel, Rooms are Ok but not the flats

Top Tip 20 Aout road where most of the restaurants and entertainment found is only short walk on the way to the beach, try Golden Gate resturant , Walk to Al hassan II street and visit the Souq

An absolute brilliant hotel, near the beach, entertainment and some great places to eat. the staff are extremelly helful and very friendly. Booking through travel republic made it more cheaper so highly recommend booking through this site. The hotel rooms were as described and also rooms were cleaned on a daily basis.

The only one down side is that staff/public do not speak good english so it will be advantageous to be able to speak frenck or arabic.

Top Tip Generally all resturants near by are really good so try a few.
A few of things to be aware of
- Make sure to bargain when buying any goods, usually they will drop to under a quarter of the price tag.
- Beware of thugs on the street who will offer jet skee, quad bike or hemam massage as they will usually take more then half of the money you pay as commision.
- When shopping at any place including when buying drinks from petrol station make sure to do the maths of the final price as they will charge you extra if they know you are a tiourist. Do challenge them if you feel they are charging you extra!
- Most local girls in the bars, resturants and clubs are prositutes so avoid buying them drinks as they will go for the most expensive drink (trust me my mate got done hardcore).

Besides, Agadir is a great city with lovely weather, nice people, excellent beach and some very good entertainment so DO GO. I will certainly visit again :-).

Good points - Excellent hotel well situated for all amentities. Staff very friendly. Bad points - Numerous problems with key swipes for doors to rooms and lift often out of action. Pool cold (21 degrees) took a brave sort to swim in bikini!

Top Tip Great surf at Banana beach - 15 minutes away!

This hotel desperately needs a makeover & I would not recommend it. The staff at the hotel were not in the least helpful. We were on our honeymoon & the first room we had the shower leaked & kept jumping off the wall. We complained & were moved to another room but this room had twin beds & when we asked the hotel assistant manager to put in a double bed he refused. We constantly complained to the management & hotel beds & it was only a couple of days before we were due to return home that the Manager(who had been off) offered to upgrade us to a suite. There was no point in accepting this offer as we were due to leave in 2 days. My sister complained to Travel Republic prior to this & Hotel Beds were contacted however again it was only a couple of days before our departure & nothing could be done. The Rep from Hotel Beds was disgusted at the service we had received from the hotel & we are now in the process of complaing which the rep agreed with 100%

The hotel staff were pleasent but make sure you have loose change on you at all times as everyone is after a tip. hotel could do with a bit of a paint job. A big walk up and down some steep steps every day to get the beach was one of the negatives.

Top Tip Really nice Thai restaurant on the beach called 'Miso Thai Wok'. expensive but very much worth it. 'La Flore' which is down to the right of the beach as you look at the sea, very nice food, good price and friendly staff, all taxi's know where this restaurant is so jump in and it will cost less than 10 dirham.

Initially we were disappointed by the hotel, reception staff were not the most efficient or polite and the first room we were shown was disappointing. The second room was better but we did feel that it was not as we expected from the pictures we had seen when we booked. However we did have a plesant stay and very much enjoyed our holiday. Just be prepared for the fact that this is more like a 3 star hotel than a 4.

Breakfast is catered more for the French and Germans. La Scala was an excellent restaurant, beautiful food but one arrogant waiter!

Top Tip Only banks and the big hotels change traveller's cheques.
