John from Gibraltar reviewed the Eurotel Hotel
Check-in Date: 15/Jul/2010

The hotel was awful. It really needs a facelift. The deco was really old, the floor carpets were rip in places. The room wardrope stank of mould. Even the reception looked tatty. The only good things were the pool that is very nice and the bar by the pool. I will definitely go too portugal again but I'm afraid my family and I will not be staying in this hotel again, nor will we recommend it to others.

We were very happy with our stay. However, in our opinion, a car is essential since Tavira is 4Km away and requires walking on the hard shoulder of main roads. It is possibel to walk through the salt marshes but hot and dusky by day and pitch black at night! The hotel shuttle bus does do 3 free runs a day to Tavira if you are happy to stick to this timetable.
The breakfast is good, with a good supply of fresh fruit and breads. However, the hot option was always eggs every day. The evening meal was table d'hote and not appealing to our palate; we considered it overpriced at 16 euros. Those on half-board expressed disappointment and most ate elsewhere once or twice in the week.
The rooms were spacious, very clean with clean bed linen alternate days and fresh towels daily but the decor was tired.
The pool was excellent with a large number of sun beds/unbrellas.
The staff were courteous and helpful. We were there during the world cup and the lounge/bar area or the separate TV room were excellent for viewing.
Overall we greatly enjoyed our stay and found the hotel very good value.

Top Tip Anna's restaurent is less than 10mins from the hotel and is signed at the first roundabout towards Tavira beside the hotel. Meals were very well priced, varied and cooked to order. We would strongly recommend; it is better than it looks form the outside! Anna and her husband Carlos made us very welcome along with the rest of the staff. Tavira has lots of restaurants, with pretty views by the river and waterfront but you do need a car to access them at night.
If you have a car you can access Atlantic beaches by driving 5 miles towards Spain. The local Atlantic beaches need to be reached by ferry since a long sand bar stretches from Faro to east of Tavira. However this means that lagoons and salt marshes on the inshores are full of birds and wild life - great places for walking and viewing!

This information is totally wrong as I didn't stay in this hotel or this resort. You made the error in my booking it was finally corrected but obviously not very thoroughly as when I arrived at the airport they wanted to transport me to Tavira and on my return they refused to pick me up so I had to pay for my own transportation from Altura ; which with 'phone calls cost me over £50 pounds.

A very good experience. No trouble getting into my room before lunch. Every room is a no smoking room, so came out smelling as I went in, and not of other peoples habits.
Clean, and polite staff. All speaking good english. Also a good breakfast. In all, I would go again.

Top Tip Poolside food expensive.

I would not reckomend this hotel to anyone we left after three days it is remote from tavira approx 4km from the city centre a taxi ride is 4.5 euros and although it still advertises that they have pool with all day snak bar this is closed there are no services between 10.00am and 4.00pm, we moved to the cabanas park much better

Top Tip staff very unhelpful
