When we arrived after a long trip we were delighted with the look of the hotel, its position and the reception. The receptionist was not unfriendly but not really friendly, she didnt greet us as we would have liked ie we felt if she'd asked us how we were it would have been nice, she seemed very robotic, she said everything to us ie what time breakfast was, where the room was as if she was reading from a script and said it so quickly, ... we hadnt a clue what she even said!
However, I would like to praise the housekeeping staff as I left my phone charger in the room, they rang me back when they said they would and quickly posted the item back which I recieved the next day.
The location was fantastic so it must be Edinburgh Castle, the shops were very grand, the people were so friendly, everyone we spoke to when we needed directions was fantastic!. So happy friendly people live in Edinburgh.!!!
Beuatiful Hotel great location, staff friendly & helpful, room spacious, breakfast great
I had a very nice room, however, not the room that i booked initially. At arrival i had the chance to upgrade, which i did. Hotel staff was extremely friendly and welcoming. The location of the hotel is fabulous, and i had the good fortune of having a very quiet room. The hotel bar was turned into a popular place for people from outside, and i considered it a bit too loud. Breakfast was really good and there was no rush; again staff was very friendly. All in all a good experience at the George Hotel

The George Hotel is an excellent venue for a stay. The Tempus restaurant has amenu to die for and the service is second to none.
Visit The Dome over the road and in particular the Clubroom for a cocktail.
Nice hotel in the city centre. Room was modern/average sized. There was only one bar and restuarant, and the loud music from the bar could be heard in the restaurant. Nowhere really to have a quite drink!!
Very centrally located and convenient for most tourist attractions.
The Pigs Ear restaurant 4 Nassau Street was a great find terrific modern Irish Cuisine and great service.
Just returned from a 2 night break in the George Hotel, Edinburgh. The hotel is very central, being just a couple of minutes walk to Princes St. We found the hotel staff all to be very pleasant, well mannered and helpful. We had booked a standard room which if I was being critical would say a little on the small side, (although certainly adequate) but really clean with a good hot shower. Breakfast was very good. All in all, very pleased with The George and would love to return again.
Mine was a business stay so it was a hotel suitable for short stay in the city centre I required and it satisfief that fully
Beautiful and very central hotel. Breakfast was massive and delicious - it's the perfect base to explore Edinburgh.
The Real Mary King's Close - off the Royal Mile. Great for a it of history and culture in underground Edinburgh.
We ate at Monteiths at the bottom end of the Royal Mile - posh but cosy brasserie with delicious high-end British food.

Lovely hotel, really well positioned for shops and restaurants.
Staff very friendly and helpful, would highly recommend and will definitely be returning.
The George is a perfectly acceptable hotel, excellently situateed in Edinburgh's New Town and within very easy walking distance of the station.
We were given a room in the modern block behind the old hotel. We were told that it was a 'nice quiet modern room', which I suppose was intended as a means of making us feel good about not having a room with a view in the old building. It was quiet and quite nice. The bed was very large and comfortable, the bathroom more than adequate and the decoration bland, if a little more tastefully so than sometimes. The air conditioning was nice to have, if something of an unnecessary luxury in chilly Edinburgh.
Our breakfasts were no more than adequate. The food was displayed mostly on self service counters, including scrambled egg - which does not like to hang around. The full Scottish aspect of the breakfast was not as full as all that, either in terms of quantity or choice. When my wife pointed out that there was a fly in the jug with the grapefruit juice, the waiter just said 'how disgusting', but he did take the jug away!
Bearing in mind that the George is meant to be a 4 star hotel, I think it is only adequate. My wife and I enjoyed our stay in Edinburgh and the hotel did not spoil it. That said, we would have hoped for it to positively add to our pleasure.
very accommodating and helpful staff.
we would highly recommend it.
Very comfortable hotel, staff made us welcome. Ice cold water available in Reception which was lovely during this hot spell. Downside there was no shower cap and when I asked one couldn't be found so I couldn't take a shower; also the extractor fan could not be turned off so it was a bit noisy. It was lovely not to have to check out until noon. Food excellent.
This hotel is in a great location on George Street. We arrived after an early flight and much to our surprise our room was available on our arrival. The standard double room was very large and our room was situated in the newer extension part, therefore very modern and soundproof. We booked in the hotel restaurant Tempus, but would not recommend this as there was no atmosphere and we had much better meals elsewhere.
Great eating house called The Dome in George Street, immediately opposite The George Hotel. Also recommend a pub called Cafe Rouge about 5 minutes walk from the hotel.
As we arrived at 4pm we decided to have a light snack in the bar area of the hotel, only to find that all the tables were reserved, we then chose to book the restaurant for 6pm, so had a drink in the foyer area, the bar area was busy and it took 20 minutes to be served as there was only 1 barman on at the time, they were also serving people who had bookings first which was very annoying.
The meal in the restaurant was very good, and very good service.
They need to have some tables in the bar area on a Friday for hotel guests.
