Jonathan from Penryn reviewed the Goya Hotel
Check-in Date: 27/Jul/2010

Stayed here for 4 nights in late July and the temperature didn't drop below 30 even at night so the air con was big bonus. The hotel doesn't claim to be new and while the rooms are a bit small, I've stayed in smaller and they're clean enough and the maid came everyday. The breakfast is typical continental buffet, and the staff were mainly very nice. The hotel is located around a 10 minute walk from La Rambla and the seafront where most of the action is, but Alicante isn't that big a city so it's quite easy to get around on foot, although we had a car too. Overall it was a nice short break and I would definitely stay at Goya again.

Top Tip Parking nearby can be a problem and the hotel charge 8 euro per day to use their car park.

The hotel is not Holiday Inn or Hilton standard but if a room, shower and toilet are all you need then it's perfect.
I have to say tho, the staff where very very friendly, even professional.

We booked a double room and had two single beds.
No shampoo, ceiling fan (the air conditioning didn't work) very noisy.
Apart from that, the hotel was great xD

Top Tip Alicante is a very nice city and everything is just close to everything. It only takes some minutes to get to the beach.

The hotel was grim and smelly.
The noise carried dreadfully through corridors and stairwells and rooms.
As the guests were in and out of their rooms until 6am due to the local nightlife, it was impossible to sleep. Doors were banging and people shouting all night.
There were some troublesome guests who were rowdy in corridors in the early hours and even throwing ashtrays and smashing them in corridors.
The hotel did move us but not on the day we asked.
The room was very basic, and very worn and dated. The bathrooms were horrendous. They were so small you couldn’t even dry yourself in the room after a shower. The water ran from the cubicles all over the bathroom floor making it dangerous.
The hotel was a long way from the beach and facilities.
We were not given a double room which we had booked
Breakfast was minimal and unappetizing.
The towels were threadbare and hard.

We knew when we booked that the hotel was only a two star rated hotel but we found it satisfactory for our purposes.

There had been some adverse comments on the web about the Hotel Goya but we went there with an open mind and found it clean and welcoming.

Top Tip The hotel was some distance from the beach and the old town where all the good restaurants and bars were situated but we enjoyed the walk and if necessary a taxi was ordered via the hotel reception which was cheap and effecient.
I was shocked to see the amount of graffitti on almost every building in and around Alicante. It was particularly widespread near the hotel area.

As expected of a 2 star hotel. had 2 separate stays.Room booked for 3 adults- 1st room had a put up bed but less noisy and had a lot of natural light. 2nd room had a sofa bed but walls were very thin. staff were friendly. reception staff spoke english. breakfast was same each day. limited choice for vegetarians.

Top Tip pizzeria serving freshly made food at reasonable price.

It wasn't a hotel, it was a camp site for festival goers so the standard was what you would pretty much expect for such an event.

Hot! Smelly! Dusty! Unhygenic!

Top Tip No, the town was small (benicassim) and i would imagine only ever sees people during the festival season.

My top tip would be - Don't leave valuables (passport, wallet) in a supermarket safe if you need to be going home on the monday and can't get them on the sunday because they will be closed and you will be Sh**ing your self all day wondering how you might get them in-time to leave.

the hotel was very good for the money however when we arrived they knew nothing of our booking as travel republic had not verified our booking correctly, luckily rooms were found for us though on different floors.

Top Tip alicante is a dusty shite hole.

A very pleasant receptionist welcomed me at this above average two star hotel, which is situated in a small street quite near the city's historic centre.
My room was extremely clean and well appointed , with an excellent air-conditioning system. As requested , the room allocated was in a quiet part of the hotel. Considering that my one night stay was during the Alicante Hoguera Festival , the price was really extremely reasonable.

Top Tip Since there was a famous annual festival on at the time , many restaurants and bars had upped their prices but the food and drink on offer was of a high quality.

Friendly staff but very old hotel in small dirty sidestreet full of cars parked accross the pavements. No decent restaurents nearby.

It takes about 20 mins to walk to the seafront as you have to cross about 12 roads with cars parked everywhere and the traffic is continuous.

This Hotel is more in the "Commercial" area of Alicanti and is a good 20 minute brisk walk to the beach and main tourist part, restaurants etc... It's certainly reflects its 2 star rating but does the job for a short period of time and too be fair the price reflects this, i.e. £30 a night fro the room. Beds where a bit uncomfortable and the view from the balcony was far from picturesque PLUS no menus in English and the staff were unable to translate!!

Top Tip Good supermarket straight down the same road that the Hotel is situated. If its your first time in Alicanti like me be aware that virtually the full place closes down on a Sunday!!!!

After arriving at the hotel at 11.15p.m. we were concerned whether there would be a meal for us. there was and we were also given wine with the food which was unexpected. The service and the staff were excellent and they were ready to give you a map of where you wanted to go free of charge. Customer care was excellent.
Although there was not a lot of choice on the menu we had something different every night we were there. There were clean towels every day and the beds were made every day during our stay. Wewalked a lot during this holiday but it was pleasant walking past all the beautiful shops in Alicante. We took the tram/train to calpe one day which was very enjoyable and only 9.70 euros. Would not hesitate to recomend this hotel for a short stay in Alicante. Some of the bad reports we found to be unfair.

Top Tip Bangkok bar near the hotel was very nice and the staff friendly. The cafe/bars on the front were really nice for people watching.

This hotel is a 2 star so I wasn't expecting high luxury. The room is basic but all you require, the staff are very helpful, the 'snack bar' is well equiped and tidy. Breakfast is basic but again, for the price - you can't complain. Overall, we only needed a one night stay so it was perfect - I'm not sure it would suit me for a whole week if I were looking to relax within the hotel complex, but for a decent place to put our head down for the night it ticked every box.

Top Tip This hotel is really close to teh main Tram station so if you are planning a stop-over in Alicante and moving on to Benidorm, Calpe or Denia etc the next day - it's location is perfect.

Nice staff and good breakfast but rooms let down by cramped en suite and almost unusable shower.

Top Tip Great Italian restaurant opposite the Cathedral (Salt and Pepper) and the castle is a must visit via the lift in the cliff which you reach from the beach side of the castle.

Considering it is only a two star it was adequate for the price paid, only one small point of a negative nature, the shower stall was much smaller than average so small that if you were to drop anything whilst in the shower, soap for instance, there was not enough room to bend down and retrieve it . fortuanately my wife and I have a sense of humour. The under ground parking was very usefull but a little expensive at 8 euros a day.

Top Tip no

Check-in Date: 07/Dec/2008

Hotel was functional, Staff were friendly enough, however the breakfast got better each day, the first day was a guy who obviously couldnt be bothered but the woman who was on for the remaining days gave you more, once you made the effort to speak to her in spanish. Rooms cleaned and beds made up daily.

BARGAIN!!!!!

Reception staff were good and due to some maintenance being done on my floor, I was upgraded to a double room.

Top Tip Tapas at the merengue bar on calle savio was very good, loads of places to eat all easily within walking distance, Museums almost on every corner with most being free to enter, the only one I paid to visit was the MARQ . 3 euros. easily the best value for money you will get it was amazing.
Fantastic views from the castillo overlooking the whole city.
Nice to have a morning or evening wander along the marina area.
The beach is accessable but will take about 15 mins to get to but well worth the walk, lets face it whats your rush enjoy the city.

Get the bus from the airport 1.20 euros better that prebooking a taxi for £35.00
stance 30 it runs every 40 mins.
